It breaks my heart that Hugo's few years of living on earth was filled with so much pain and misery. He was isolated in his room with little to no contact with his sister and father for 4-5 years, was constantly in pain due to his sickness, his family and friends died one by one around him due to something he was unfortunately cursed with and never asked for, he saw his sister suffer and get hurt time and time again as she continues protecting him, and his last thread of hope was just fantasy and he and his sister had no chance of getting a happy ending to begin with ..... I will sue Asobo Studio for emotional distress

You're seeing the glass half empty. Especially in this game, we got to see Hugo explore and fall in love with the beauty of the world and it's people. He was amused by flowers and feathers and everyone that knew him loved him. He had bright moments in his short life, thanks to Amicia.

I love the foreshadowing of amecia's hair at the beginning with the lady at the market saying she loved it and how long her hair was, then it got shorter and shorter as it got worse, just like the macula around Hugo consuming him, ultimately Hugo dies and her hair gets shorter, loss.

I really hope the young actress that plays amicia wins the award at the game awards, i feel she so deserves it. She literally reduced me to tears. It would have been so easy to overdo this and make it cheesy but she just hit it perfectly- and she is so young herself. And the first plague tale was her first pro job too - amazing.

Im playing GOWR now and although i am enjoying it a lot i was disappointed that some of the awards that went to it over other nominees. For eg this category I really feel Charlotte was incredible in her role as Amicia. Also another eg the music category i literally would not recognise GOW or GOWR music but some of the other nominees i felt were superb musically - not that GOW isn’t good i just felt that there were so many amazing games and that some of these other categories could have recognised them instead giving nearly all the awards except the biggie - which i think we all were pretty sure would be Elden ring - to GOWR. But anyway its all subjective an i do think it has been an incredible year for games and that is what really counts. And i think we have another amazing year next year. Aye I'm only at the scene with a lot of dead infected corpses. That scene and Amicia killing all the people remind me of Christopher Columbus the trespasser. I wonder if this game is secretly trying to tell us this forgotten history? The American Indian Holocaust, known as the “500-year war” and the World’s Longest Holocaust In The History Of Mankind Death Toll: 95,000,000 to 114,000,000 American Holocaust: D. Stannard (Oxford Press, 1992) I didn't know about this until I saw this article. (For educational purposes only) - The list of Native American genocidal policies includes: Mass-execution, Biological warfare, Forced Removal from homelands, Incarceration, Indoctrination of non-indigenous values, forced surgical sterilization of native women, Prevention of religious practices, just to name a few. By mass execution, before the arrival of Columbus, the land defined as the 48 contiguous states of America numbered more than 12 million. Four centuries later, it had been reduced by 95% (237 thousand). How? When Columbus returned in 1493 he brought a force of 17 ships. He began to implement slavery and mass extermination of the Taino population of the Caribbean. Within three years five million were dead. Fifty years later the Spanish census recorded only 200 living! Las Casas, the primary historian of the Columbian era, writes of numerous accounts of the horrendous acts that the Spanish colonists inflicted upon the indigenous people, which included hanging them en masse, roasting them on spits, hacking their children into pieces to be used as dog food, and the list continues. This did not end with Columbus’ departure, the European colonies and the newly declared United States continued similar conquests. Massacres occurred across the land such as the Wounded Knee Massacre. Not only was the method of massacre used, other methods for “Indian Removal” and “clearing” included the military slaughter of tribal villages, bounties on native scalps, and biological warfare. British agents intentionally gave Tribes blankets that were intentionally contaminated with smallpox. Over 100 thousand died among the Mingo, Delaware, Shawnee, and other Ohio River nations. The U.S. army followed suit and used the same method on the Plains tribal populations with similar success. In other case, Captain Cook’s crew introduced sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis and gonorrhea. Because of their island location, Native Hawaiians lacked immunity to infectious diseases like these, and they spread quickly. So did a “plague” that struck the island around 1803. Thought to have been yellow fever or a similar disease, the epidemic resulted in up to 175,000 deaths, cutting the island’s pre-contact population in half.

Well, there’s a lot of that in this game. Hell, there’s a lot of innocent kids Hugo took away. So, well, you are responsible for that very thing to so many others. Hell, one already tried to kill you to put an end to it after his son died. But I’m sure you ignore that and it only matters now after it affects you. Most of the world calls that selfish, among other things.

The ending is so sad and tragic and I'm pretty certain that the overall message of this story is about Amicia's inability to stop fighting the inevitable and to finally just accept things for what they are, no matter how painful it is to do. There WAS no cure for Hugo, everything pointed to that and she never wanted to believe it because she was so desperate to save him(something many of us can relate to at some point in our life). It wasn't until hugo finally explains it to her where she finally understands what needs to be done. I noticed that that message is hinted at several times throughout the story. That's just my interpretation though.
@SynphamyMusic
@SynphamyMusic Жыл бұрын
I thought about the story of this game so much that i have my own idea, like, what if the person in the hospital at the end is who this entire game is really about. Someone on their deathbed, a story told from the perspective of a family member that's sitting next to them watching over them, accepting fate, the whole theme of letting go. Amicia does everything she can, holds Hugo's hand through all of it, shows him strength but when she's away from him, she's falling apart, anxiety attacks & lashing out at the world, as Lucas says 'the world keeps hurting and you want to hurt it back, but it's a fight you cannot win'. She keeps him going, looking for any tiny chance for a miracle but Hugo knows his time has come. It's normal to think we should keep a loved one alive for as long as possible, but it isn't always what's best for them, keeping them in pain, keeping them in the horrific feeling that they're just hurting everyone around them, a contagious suffering, like a plague. The rats could easily be the mental representation that people often create simply so their sickness 'has a face' so to speak. I can see so many parallels in this game where the macula could easily be cancer for example, and there are so many points in the story that make perfect metaphors for losing a loved one to it.

@@SynphamyMusic would make sense if that “sickness” wasn’t responsible for the death of so many others. So many innocent people dead because of it. You think you have it bad because Hugo died. How many people did you take away? So this mentality of it being this “loved on on their deathbed” story is incredibly selfish and shortsighted. It’s part of the reason Amicia deserves death just like Hugo.
@SynphamyMusic

@@moonmoon2479 Do you understand what a metaphor is? Innocent people die around us every day that we pay absolutely no mind to. In the game's story this could refer to how sadly normal to daily life it is that the rats, the sickness can take anybody. Its not selfish, in fact, it's the opposite to at least spare them a thought and consider the suffering we so easily overlook.

I definitely teared up at the end of this game, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. Charlotte McBurney's performance as Amicia really was incredible. Ultimately, I think the overall theme of the game was said by Beatrice, when she said, "Love can kill." Amicia was willing to overlook all the collateral damage from Hugo and the Macula, because she loved him and was desperate for a cure. In the end though, she had to let go and do the hardest thing imaginable in order to stop the death of everyone around her. At least, that was my interpretation.

It's always hard if it was a child being in the middle of all this pain and suffering. I read the wiki on this and Hugo is actually in pain right there but he has no ability to make any body language, he is just stuck on the puck ball forever. And the part where the yellow filter is on is what Lucas' said where "all natural laws stop there" and Hugo is communicating with Amicia through her mind. Hugo is coming into terms with his death because he cannot prevent the Macula from taking over anymore and that the only way to stop himself is to have someone else stop him. Also as you move up to Hugo's puck ball and himself, you can notice that the rats are not attacking Amicia and Lucas. That was Hugo's actual last bit of effort to help them do what they have to do. Now, going back to the beginning of what I said, the wiki of the game says in order to stop the Macula and causing endless damage to society, is to euthanize Hugo. Essentially Hugo has been brain dead when he was overpowered by the Macula. Using the Photo Mode and zooming into Hugo's body and face was just absolute sadness. He's just there. Not winking, just twitching. Cannot speak, cannot walk, no longer can communicate with Amicia as it was his last words before succumbing and becoming the new host of the Macula. Macula also feeds on hatred. As you've noticed, all of this could have been prevented if not ALSO because of these shitty people, who thirst for power, who always starts war to show who has the better army, who always hurts people, Hugo and Amicia's mum included. I actually loved how Arnaud and Sophia were the actual good guys in all this. Never trust someone who has a heart of gold with bad intentions. Much better to have an asshole friend that would never have bad intentions over you. It's just really hard to put someone so sweet, so gentle, who just loves flowers, simple things, enjoying the scenery of the sea, of the mountains, playing with other children, meeting kind people, looking out for her Mum and Amicia and other people he grown to care about, into. Just. This. Game of the Year material right there. I don't care how janky the game engine is, the story is what killed it.

Lol, lots of cope. How many people is Hugo responsible for killing? Thousands. You just want to shift blame. How selfish and shortsighted of you. You are no better. In fact, you are worse. Thousands are dead because of this. Innocent people. Arnaud and Sophia aren’t good guys. They sided with you. They should have killed you if they were good guys. Hugo fell to that same thirst for power, and he also was a massive idiot who thought the Macula would lead him to its own cure. Hugo deserved to die. How many families has he destroyed. I’ll give you a hint, one of them thought killing you two would stop the plague, and it turns out they were right. Try to shift blame all you want, try to be a victim in this, you aren’t. Hugo deserved to die, and so does Amicia. (Hilarious that you think that about friends btw. Someone that means well is worse than an asshole that doesn’t betray you? Yeah, peak selfishness)

@@moonmoon2479 It's basically like the concept for TLoU. Withheld the cure for a much bigger problem just to keep one small desire in check. Which is to protect something that is near and dear to them and don't give a fuck about anything else because they world was already shitty to begin with. The other two deuteragonists were basically just along for the ride because the writers said so. But I don't change my mind that they're helpful despite their bad first impressions. Even though I made my comment and I still stand by it -- I totally agree with you right here. Selfishness goes a long long way and most often a complicated topic, but justified by one's actions of course. You understand and don't understand them at the same time, the plague would exactly be over if Hugo already perished, but because of sympathy you also feel what it's like to lose something you care about. Ultimately, it's all about choosing the lesser of two evils. Amicia obviously chose the bigger evil of dragging the plague longer because the host of the Macula is still alive. And even though Hugo was a big part of Amicia's life, he's just a spec in the Universe. The world's a better place without him and the plague, I guess. Deem my main comment as first impressions of the ending.

The player is also forced to accept the outcome and just let go. I think Hugo could have lived longer if the Count hadn't attacked them near the end. I still wonder what the whole cure to the Macula is...whether simply living a peaceful life was the cure, or at least the way to a far less severe outcome. If simply killing the Carrier were the cure, then the Order would have been a group of assassins seeking to kill each new Carrier (or some other group). I think killing him would not have been necessary if he didn't give himself over to the Macula. Also it seemed to me that Hugo was already gone when the Macula took over, and he used the last of his consciousness to guide Amicia and keep the rats at bay. It's so tragic... 😢 Happy you uploaded this. It's always so cathartic watching you connect very emotionally with the games you play.

Cope. The expert on this told you already that he was going to die at the beginning of the game. Killing him would always have been necessary. The Order would have been right to kill him but they wanted to use the power. (Kinda like Amicia does) And that “terminal illness” is getting good people killed. Innocent people. But it only matters as a “terminal illness” to you because of Hugo. Incredibly selfish.

the reason the order was not a bunch of assassins is because they wanted to use the carrier as a military asset. That is what happened with Basilius, they couldve killed him, instead they experimented on him within a fortress looking for ways to harness his power.

I played this game the second it was released. Out of all the games I played, this is the first one to put me on a rollercoaster of emotions. The ending made me depressed. I was actually depressed for about a week. The crazy thing is that this game isn't even a AAA title and it was still better than most games that came out recently. Sure hope this game gets GOTY

It was VERY painful to me. I wasted my time in both games watching so horrible death of children, mothers, fathers, families in fact only to solve NOTHING in the end. You did nothing, lose everything and are forced to watch all these attrocities as a player only for Macula to continue and that is it.

Well, this was one hell of a beautiful game! Amicia and her brother Hugo are two exquisite characters. The story is top notch, the animations are so crisp and the combat I think, was an improvement from the last one. The rats of course are vicious creatures that lure in the darkness and will swallow anything in your path if you’re not careful to reach the path of light. A game well done! Game of the year!

A plagues tale, the characters Hugo, Amecia, Lucas, the mother, Rodrick, arnaud, and anyone else I’ve missed felt like my family and my own people.. the music the story, the scenery were flawless. thank you Asobo studios now I need therapy 😅

The mere idea of pointing your weapon at your little brother, at your companion, at the person with whom you spent most of the years of your life, is extremely painful.. How can you do that in reality? Amicia is a very strong girl inside, in fact. It is very painful, and the ending is like a nightmare. I hope that they will return and meet again, even if it is in another life.

The game did a fantastic job through Amecia to makes us passionately care and protect Hugo. In the end, I started crying the moment people started dying in the visions. I realized the only way to stop it was to kill him. It hurts so much to even think about it. When the game said you now have a new game+ mode, i said out loud "Why dafaq would I want to go through that again?".. Beautiful and impactful game, but I'm never going back to it.

This works fantastic as a duology, but the trilogy set in the modern world with modern medicine may bridge the gap to breaking this curse, and answer questions about the origin of the macula and what not. So, the third one I think would be more supplemental than anything. Also, who is stoked for this adaptation we'll be getting?

The acting in this game series is top notch, and really sells gaming as so much more than what the uneducated don't see, it's more than just GTA, it's more than call of duty, it is living an emotional experience. Your reaction to this game no doubt brings a huge sense of pride to the team around this game, both those behind the scenes developing it, and those who acted in it. Beautiful game, the future is bright for story telling, and this is a fun, captivating way to do it.

I feel the next one will fit a lil. Kind of like the gap from (I don't quite remember the names) Basillias and Aliea to Hugo and Amicia to whoever the next carrier and protector will be. But kind of how Hugo and amicia searched for answers through the previous two, the future carrier and protector will search and learn of Hugo and Amicia. 25:07 Although it's been a year for Amicia in game, I can really feel the void of Hugo's absence on her trek to his burial site. It felt really, truly like missing a piece of something and there is no way to turn back the clock, because we almost always see them hand it hand, climbing walls together with Amicia hoisting him up and Hugo trying to pull his sister up. To all who are going through loss, I'm so sorry. May peace, rest and solace be placed in your hearts. "In the remembrance of God, do hearts find peace." - al-Quran, 13:28

This game ripped my heart out in the best-worst way. I appreciate that the game devs didn't turn Hugo's final sacrifice into a cut scene, that they make you, the player, end things*. I cried so much at the end and all through the first post-credits epilogue. On one hand, I agree that a third game would have a really strange vibe since the new game will be modern or post-modern in time, but on the other hand, I'd love to see what clues Amicia left for the new Protector and Carrier. I'd also really like a prologue with Basilius and Aelia, even though we know how their stories end. *If you wait long enough in front of Hugo at the end, Lucas will take over and you'll get slightly different dialogue between Amicia and Sophia.

I don't particularly need or expect a super happy ending to a story based in such a grim world, but... after two games, That ending just felt a little bit like a punch in the stomach. I actually had to look up if I"d gotten the "bad ending" so to speak, but nope... that's how they end the series (the developers have suggested that this is the end of the story arc).
