I don't do a lot of beauty-tube these days, mostly because I'm depressed and seeing such pretty cool amazing people make me feel like a slug tbh, BUT nothing can make me stop watching Jackie and Kristy, there is so much love in both of them. So much light. And I want to thank both of them for that. They both have this way of just, being. Just being them and just being real, and I love that. Yes! I love that video idea about the algorithm. My self esteem and mental health and my excitement overall about influencers improved so much when I started to become more intentional about who I follow and how much I engage (comment, like, use links ect.) I feel like a lot of people don’t realize how active you have to be to really start to change the content that you are fed. Cuz the socials apps are problematic af.

Jackie’s absolutely right; I, as a white woman, probably only has 1/10 of my reccomended influencers be anything other white women or men. Brands included. Even though I have you on notifications, I don’t even get 1/3 of them from what I’ve noticed. It’s sad; I want to do my absolute best to support black-owned makeup brands, but I know not everyone will be willing to put in the effort to do research.

Same I subscribe to a lot of black youtubers (in all sorts of genres not just makeup) and my feed is legit almost all white... I don’t notice it much because in the moment I’m like ‘need to find something to watch while I eat’ but then at night I go through my subscription section and it’s all the black youtubers I watch have freaking uploaded all through out the day and I’m like... wtf? Then I watch it all in one go... but still don’t get those youtubers on my recommended!!!! Like what the fuck?! Then I watch ONE stupid abstract art video and it recommends that shit for the rest of my life. I hate this shit sometimes.

I am in the opposite situation. All my recomendations are filled with black women last month. Even though I never watch them except Jackie because I am not seeking for the information they provide. It feels like youtube started constantly pushing those small black creators (there are small channes in my home page). I don't get it really. I am a MUA and I only look for a certain type of content, not rewievs or TAGs, but algorythm can't get it...

I just realized I think KZfaq thinks I’m black and that’s why that seems to be a majority of the creators I watch. I thought everyone’s KZfaq was like this but thinking back yeah all the youtubers I watched like two years ago were ALL white and then there was just you and like 2 others. But after binge watching your videos I think it fixed it so I think the solution is to binge watch all of your videos. I’ve fixed the algorithm guys try it

The section you talking about perfecting the algorithm to get your explore page to show a diverse group of influencers is on point. I love watching all types of channels and have been into black channels hard recently. I started watching Nyma Tang years ago and since I engage with her content and others, I've been finding women of all skin tones. Its beautiful.
