Have you ever heard about that ? It's called one way bearing. If you're in motorcycle, this thing is just basic. Also, when I was kids, I used to weld that part ( sprocket to be exact ) so I can do a wheelie and control it without using a handbrake..

Its for redundancy. You are just afraid of change
@InformatrIIcks
@InformatrIIcks Жыл бұрын
@@infernaldaedra I'm not afraid of change. I just hate overcomplicated designs that don't solve any issue. Talk to any engineer (like, completely at random, me 😉) and they will ALWAYS tell you that eliminating a source of issues is much better than having a redundant solution. Having a fic center and just the teeth on a bearing will do exactly the same. You can fit a screwdriver through the cog if you want to. But it's a much better solution because : - it is much simpler to manufacture, which should lead to cost savings - maintenance is much simpler because you only have one bearing to change (also more cost savings) - a rigid mounted center section is going to be stronger and lighter. Also i'm pretty sure the extra strength can lead to further cost and weight savings Downsides - you loose the fancy party trick of pretending you're going to break you expensive derailleur - your wallet is heavier because of the extra money you did not spend in a stupid gimmick - ???? - you don't get to teach new "no-no words" to your kids when you want ro show them how daddy service his bike I can fairly confidently say that i'm not afraid of change. But please prove me wrong, i would really like to be enlightened to what this design offer that : - a solid pulley don't offer (because no hole = nothing stuck inside ... In 15 years of enduro I never had a stick go in my jockey wheel because it has no holes. Just sayin' ...) - a "spoked" with just an outer bearing don't offer

@@InformatrIIcks yeah a rigid center would be lighter, until your in a race and a stick jumps up into your detailer
@InformatrIIcks
@InformatrIIcks Жыл бұрын
@@MangoInfinity1 and so what ? It's not spinning so the stick is going to at worst hang in there. It might hit the wheel spokes but that's just because mountain biking it has nothing to do with the derailleur. I really don't get what you're saying, are you concerned that in a race situation you might get the extra weight of a stick ? If anything solid center will avoid the stick jamming the pulley because it's not spinning... Please stop trying to find a problem for this solution. This is nothing more than an over engineered gadget that has no practical ise on a bike.
