I do agree with you that the mounting system you have needs a bracket welded onto it to enforce the mounting system you have. Needs to be a little stronger. It would be best if you had more support brackets, too much play with that C channel, and depending on what you are winching onto the trailer it could bend or give way. More is better.

Weld a 2x2 tube thick wall - in the C channel. That will help. Can just bolt it. Something under the winch is needed also. Good show !

I'd also weld A tray plate together to fasten down to the wood part of the trailer flooring itself to for stability of that center leg& plate foot to sit down into.

Consider mounting the whole winch and hitch down low near the deck of the trailer. Maybe install a small tray for it all to sit on? Make a nice heavy-duty tray and hefty attachment points to the goose neck frame.

Definitely needs some bracing on it. Im not an engineer, but id probably use some more of those triangle shaped flat steel pieces. Good job fellas!! 😎👍

it will bend the C channel towards the back of the trailer if you don't tie it into the main frame of the goose neck

I think that I would put a couple of upright supports under the winch going down to the deck. That’s a lot of weight to hang unsupported off that channel.

I'd put a second piece of channel on the trailer. Over that spanse it's gonna warp. Then tuck the winch back at least level with the uprights or it has a chance to get clocked by what ever rolls into it, Besides you're losing a bit of room on the bed. Next get some snatch blocks, you won't be sorry. Good video guys.

Hank, try taking a piece of thick square tubing & run behind the c channel where you welded the gussets on. If need be notch out for the gussets & fit in place then weld the slits up with gussets inside. Hopefully that should take the majority of your flex out. Love the vids buddy

You are loading the channel in it's weak direction. It also has no torsional stiffness. Either replace that channel with a square crossmember, or nest a big, long square tube behind the channel, and attach to verticals on each end.

Just an FYi, and I am sure you figured it out, but you only needed to cut one angle in the gesset scrap. Flip over the first triangle along the angle you cut and you will find a straight cuts across the metal (short side) gives you triangle 2.

Take your angle iron put it underneath and more to the bottom of your trailer

Got the same winch (with the synthetic rope) on my 30' Diamond C gooseneck. Mine is permanently mounted though, with a battery in the toolbox with a solar charger on the neck. Also, Brother, those legs are so pale that they're blue LOL!!! Just busting your chops a little bit!

You need to brace that cross bar, it won't be strong enough. Stand off to the side when winching out of the path of the cable with a blanket or something over the cable to keep it from flying around. We want you to be around a long time. 😂.😂😂

Hank, if you start loading up the c channel cross member, it’s gonna bend in a heart beat. You might be able to pull 1500-2000 pounds at best. Anymore than that, it will bend bug time! You got away pulling a load that rolled. But pull something that doesn’t roll easily. You saw how much the c channel flexed pulling the tractor. A heavier load will definitely put it to a good challenge.

You are going to put a solid piece of 1/2 flare plate across your side uprights with braces on the back side behind the winch to each side up right s

I'd add A plate & two pieces of angle iron coming off the other direction as A tray. welded to those angle iron straps going across the other way to hold it up with.& one center post leg & foot plate in the center at the bottom of that plate to Hank. It'll reinforce it a lot that plus strengthen it up A whole lot more.& Add more durability a long with that process to. Good luck with it all to.

Me personally i would mount it to the deck of the trailer. Even with supports on that it will eventually break the welds over time of use and weather, just to much give. Y'all stay safe

That winch should help you but it needs to be reinforced so the weld won't break

Put one of those on my Jeep YJ. Can't beat the price and at 12K single line pull pretty sure I can't stick it to the point of failed self recovery lol. On same winch on a trailer: they have huge amp draw when pulling heavy. Use 2 battery set-up.

Hank, i know you want to be able to remove the winch but i don't think you should. weld a plate across the one brace and mount the winch to it. it'll be there at all times but it'll be safer than what you have

Listen, I don’t know a lot about a lot of things. But I do know welding and steel. And I know putting any amount of serious pull to those welds on that cross member is likely not going to go great. If you need some advice or help, feel free to reach out. I weld for a living.

I would remove the c channel and replace it with a piece of 2 x 4 box tube. And add a vertical reinforcement too.

somethin i woulda have done is welded a late at the top, ya its a lil angled but thats the fairleads job to an can always snatch block as well, woulda been a lil stronger base but thats my opionion

as a steel fabricator I don't think that's the best spot to mount the winch.. but hey like you said have fun doing it any way lol make sure to post the video using it the first time

you could hook your winch and a battery box up high and use the bottom angle iron to make a strong pull area for a snatch block for pulling a slow and heavy load on to trailor

Mount your battery permanent on the trailer and use your trailer wiring to keep it charged. If it didn't come equipped with a battery charge relay, you my have to install one. I would almost bet the 4500 already has the proper wiring. All you have to do is hook it to the battery.

Mount the winch on top by the tire, with a SOLID bass. Then use pulleys to direct it down and back. Pulleys increase pulling power. It does slow it down, but it's not a race.

Here's an idea run two peaces of flat bar from the top back bar in an angle to your c channel on each side of your wench shouldn't move then

on your trailer wire is better because it will almost always have to rub on floor of trailer and it will last a lot longer in those conditions

You need a box frame secured to cross bar for winch to sit in. Cross bar looks weak how you got it set up.

12K single or 24K double line pull (will do it). C channel is going to fail . A block of wood to support winch isn't going to stop that.Failure will be the C channel bowing toward the load on a heavy pull until it fractures and it will fracture..... Go to a deck mount with some 1/4" plate. Wish I was there to assist.

I'd have rigged up the winch under the goose-neck. No obstruction on the flat-bed and better able to build a decent base for the winch rather than that feeble looking C-section and a receiver hitch. More work but a better result.

Those trailer channels are not strong enough

That’s way too flexible it will rip off under a somewhat heavy load. Really need to put a piece of square tube and weld it to the goose neck frame.

Your on right track but that is far to weak it really needs beefed up with your winch fitted to a solid plate not a receiver hitch it’s just to feeble but like others said mount it on top to at least a ten mm sheet with winch bolted to it and next to it a battery box or whole thing boxed in and locked and on bottom of frame fit a tow hook point for snatch block use plus half way up on either side if trailer the same incase you need to pull something that needs straightened up or pulled up at a angle , plus never ever stand behind a winch if the cable snapped you would have no chance !! Always grab a heavy towel Capet or similar and place it over the winch cable/rope to act as a dampener if it breaks or breaks of what your hook up to and stand off to the side using your wireless remote only use the cable once whatever you have winched on needs you to get near to finish off pulling it up then the cable connection but get in habit using wireless so you never standing close to the cable /rope . Slow and steady and think safety when using a winch .
