Hey, also... I’ve been working with some other old Line Rider players (conundrumer and mhenr18) on testing their new version of LR on linerider.com, and they want to ask you about what they’re allowed to do with Line Rider. If you’d like to message me directly with contact info, that would be awesome :)

And now, a full documentation on how I felt throughout this amazing experience: Pt. 1: Why this so long? Pt. 1: Ok, this is epic? Maybe? Pt. 1: How long did this take? My god! Pt. 2: K, this is gettin’ trippy and I love it. Pt. 3: Picking up speed here. Pt. 3: Why is this so good?! Pt. 4: Why do I love this so much?! Pt. 5: This is an experience, I tell you. Pt. 5: Well, what’s gonna top this part? Pt. 5: It keeps going? Color me happily surprised! Pt. 6: I’m... I’m speechless... Pt. 6: I’m liking these beats. Pt. 7: Am I getting sad that we’re close to the end? Pt. 7: I feel like I’m never going to see Line Rider again after this... Pt. 7: It feels like an old friend is moving out of town... Pt. 7: HOLY CRAP. ENDING: NOOOOO!!!! LINE RIDER!!!! AFTER: Oh my god... I’m actually crying right now. I was planning on making a joke about feeling ascended at the end here, but I can’t. But, I guess all I can say is: That was a Ride.

I feel like there are two simple cocepts in this video: 1. No matter how complicated the path is, you will always move forward. 2. The rider never ever falls even when things are moving to fast or unpredictably.

When I was younger, I played video games with my dad rarely and it was one of my favorite things to do. Nothing made me happier. One day, after my friends showed me this in elementary school, I ran home to show my dad. We got onto our old little HP desktop and got onto a flash game site I've forgotten the name of and he hogged the thing the whole time. I wasnt mad or upset, instead, I was happy to see my dad turn into such a kid over something so silly and random. it made me happy. We would spend hours on this game, making crazy courses and I'd watch videos of new tricks to try and show off to my dad. I'm not sure when it was exactly, but sometime before I moved of from grade school, we stopped playing and I forgot all about those days we spent on here and I forgot about this game. For some reason this was posted in my recommended videos and it just brought all of it back. Thank you for this. I'd love to tell you all more but i gotta go call my dad now.

Melvis3825 Wow... Beautiful, I never got to play games with my dad, he's a really nice and cool guy, but he's always secluded in his room on his computer, I forget he's even home sometimes except when he comes out to cook dinner, goes and gets something or something else. I always wanted to find a video game to play with my dad, but never did. He plays destiny 2 now, I might buy that just to play it with him

After spending a few minutes on the comment section I came to realize how something like this can get people to express themselves in beautiful ways, we need more of this, more people like them. I feel as if every single person here is filled with joy and ready to share it with others, their will to live and also the way they see things as every comment shares it's beauty with their uniqueness. I found myself immersed in those comments and on what people had to say on the brief minutes on which I traveled trough these wonderful lands. After writing this I will surely return to enjoy my night along with the video playing once again on the background filling me with many emotions. I feel like I could watch this over and over again.

It makes you reflect on yourself. This short film convey so many emotions that any other film as ever done. People use to make line riders to music tracks. They became increasingly more fluid and complex and then like any other fad, disappeared. This guy made a line rider to an entire TWDY album. In the case that you don't know what line rider is, it was a flash game in which the little guy started off on nothing and fell with a set gravity. It was up to you to draw the lines and use the games physics to keep it going. Yes, this would've taken forever. Though not entirely all too impressive, a line that goes on for nearly an hour would take an ungodly amount of pauses, resets and failed predictions.

This is not something that you can sit back and watch. This is something that drags you along with it. I’ve never thought that something so simple such as a boy, his sled, and a journey through a maze of lines could carry so much emotion. I feel like everyone can relate to at least one of these parts. For me it was, 1, 5, and 7. I’m glad there was no “Thank you for watching” screen, because the real person who should be thanked is you. Thank you for putting the endless hours into making something like this and then sharing it with the world.

So, I'm late and all but I can't seem to shake off the feelings that the last part (Part 7) instilled in me. For some reason this song reminded me an "I'm fine" spiral. Lemme explain. At first, you are mostly fine. A bit melancholic, a bit disapointed in what life has to offer? I'm fine Then, when the drums start 45:18 , you start a slow descent, you are not really happy anymore but you lie. I'm fine A lie calling another, you start getting trapped in them. At 46:50 you realize it. But too late. I'm fine After that, you start having small crises. You think about solutions but you don't have the courage to tell the truth, so you lie to yourself. With time, the crises become panick attacks and your solutions become darker and darker. Suicide? But each and every time you think everything is going to come out, your wall of lies and fake emotions comes back and holds everything at the last second At some point, 49:17 , you become numb and dull to everything. But slowly you feel all these contained feelings swelling inside of you, eventually breaking everything and you enter a kind of rage fueled by all these left out feelings. You set everything ablaze. The world, yourself. There that's something that the music alone didn't make me feel. But the visuals realy put an emphasis on that and made these feelings burst alive. I just wanted to share it

Part 2 also kind of feels like this. There are problems, but... they're small. You tell yourself it's fine. But those problems start getting bigger. The noise, the chaos, keeps getting louder. Your "I'm fine"s are getting weaker and weaker. Eventually, they do nothing. You have to come to terms with the problems, the dam breaks. The thing you've been pretending isn't there is suddenly very there. There's no choice but to acknowledge the elephant in the room. Unlike 7, though, you walk away, and to the untrained eye and ear everything IS fine. But it isn't. Nothing will be ever again "fine". This comes into play with the just... disjointedness of it all. The random skips and jolts and bumps, the downright warped nature of everything. These wounds won't heal but so far.

But I was so bored and had nothing else to do so I decided to watch it. @The Employer You know, that is the amazing part. And it's ironic (hypocritical, too) to say it's for people with no imagination, because this is exactly the point: seeing where your mind takes you, noticing the subtleties of your imagination contrasted to the clearcut video. I found this piece.. years ago now, it seems. The first time I came upon it, I watched it out of nostalgia, had it on in the background, looked at it every now and then when things got intense and I found myself emotionally moved in a way I can't hope to describe. But here I am, years later, wanting to... analyze what exactly made me feel this way, and I think I have it. When it comes to something as emotionally driven as music, we can't help but attach meaning to it. This piece makes me think of... the passing of a life, an entire life. The lines describe the path, while the rider defines the self. Part 1 reminds me of early childhood. The simplicity. There are ups and downs, but for the most part the line is consistent. When it stops being so, we've reached full consciousness. We realize the path wasn't simple. We start to deal with the idea that there are legitimate bumps on our path, and it's jarring. Then we hit adolescence, and everything seems to move so FAST, but it's all contained. Traveling the same path that hundreds of thousands of children are pushed through. Every loop has been carefully designed to take children where they need to go, as fast as we can get them there. Then... part 2 comes. We realize that the path we have in front of us is our own, and that we alone will make it and take it on as teenagers and young adults. The path isn't... concentric though, it has flaws, it has holes... because we are still children, truly, and don't know how to fill those gaps. For most of us, it will drive us crazy with our ignorance. Part 3 enters with true adulthood. Thousands upon thousands of lives and the lines they have traveled all around us, it's almost impossible to figure out what way is the 'right way'. And then, like a magic trick, we figure it out. Navigating the 'jungle' is suddenly so much easier, because we've struggle and become wiser for it. Not only do we navigate others' paths, we create our own, truly, and it isn't even simple anymore. We're flying, we could do anything! Because we are young, and confident, and strong. Part 4 is the blockage, or perhaps the remembrance. The time in one's life where we either can't figure out what we're doing wrong and keep falling back into old habits, or we simply have the time to truly consider our past. Think on the path we grew up with, wondering if it was truly like we remembered it. But constantly backtracking isn't healthy, so we resolve to move forward.. in part 5. Part 5 is the steady march of your middle-aged folk. It is moving forward, sure, but you're getting older. It's not as easy as it used to be, you feel the bumps on the way more than ever. You're aware of your own mortality. You're moving forward, but you know at the end of your line, you will die. It feels like the desperate reaching of a person who wants to make a mark on the world, and it is beautiful, but it has a sadness to it as well. When you've done what you can... there's still time left. There's still so much time, and you're reminded of childhood. Of part 1, the calming feel of life passing by. There are obstacles sure, and they feel different from before. You see them differently though, they're more complex than you remembered. Part 6 is old age truly taking a hold of you. The bumps in the road make every path uncertain, any movement is plagued by this unsteady feeling. Your path, your life, feels like it's falling apart. Your body fails you in times you don't expect. Then comes part 7, the end of your life. Everything else feels so far away, the problems. The good times and the bad times are more clear, more acute, you feel them more because you know your time to experience them is coming to an end. It's solemn, you aren't always moving forward, or back, you just are. And things do still seem similar. It's still life, your life. And in the end, the very end, everything is... beautiful. Every step you take has aspects to it that you never saw before. The "sound waves" we see along each line is the pure intensity of LIVING, of being alive, and suddenly... it ends. You fall away, the sound fades, and life continues on, even if you're not riding the line anymore. (If you made it this far, thanks for reading!)

Part 2 is so great. It slowly lulls you in, then all that noise starts to build up, you don't even notice it at first. At some point, you can't ignore it anymore, but you still try to listen to the peaceful sounds. Then they disappear, only chaotic noise. Then it normalizes again, but only with a stutter. I feel like it describes the way we sometimes fail to deal with problems. As long as they are small, we don't notice them, so they grow. When we realize that they have grown big, we try to avoid them because we are afraid we can't solve them. At some point, we have to face them. Then the catastrophe happens, and it can leave a scar that won't heal

I would of never expected this. This. This is so amazing. You wouldn’t even think it to be that interesting when you see the title screen. You scroll down through the comments during that first, long, drawn out line and you think it’s intriguing enough to stay in. Then you see the comment “... I didn’t skip any part of the video...” and you wonder why and you’re up to the challenge, so you start watching. During the first song you become relaxed, you enjoy the increase of intensity of the music and then you really enjoy it. And by time song two comes you’re really, really enjoying it and you wanna stay put. So you listen and watch and by the third song you’ve spaced out, in your own mind. Maybe you’re creating fictional stories between you and real people, stories you wish would happen, or maybe you’re thinking about the past, or even the future. The growing and shrinking rythym controls your mind and you feel explosions of emotions and you’re up and down and before you even know it it’s over. And you just wanna feel it all again. I would explain this entire film as my life, every drum, strum, pick, and pluck explains every little crack and crevice in your mind. At least that’s what it did to me. And I will never regret putting time aside to enjoy this in my dim lit bedroom with a fluffy blanket and a cup of tea. Thank you so much... this truly did destroy me...

The real emotion that people are experiencing here is really just projected onto the blank canvas that this beautiful movie provides. It's like a mad libs hero's journey, but it can represent the story of ever person who watches it. I am 16 years old, with a stable family and good outlook on life without hardly working for it. This video did nothing for me. It meant nothing. The friend who showed it to me has seen some shit. His family is unstable, his life is a pit that he can't claw out of, and he distracts himself from his thoughts 24 hours a day. He was in tears by the end and he didn't know why. This gave him time to think, and the opportunity to meditate on his past. It hit him like a truck. Meditation is essential to understanding oneself and the influences that shape one's own person. This is a video that forces you to meditate.

i found this not too long after it had been uploaded, clicked on it expecting a single song, or a really cool but weird animation thing, or a story, or. just about anything, really, but not much more than, like. 10 minutes. It was like 4 am when I found it, and I remember thinking exactly once, about 20 minutes in, 'this is a long video, how long is this?', tapped my screen, and it was a fucking hour. I keep coming back to this video because of the emotional journey it is. The music wouldn't be the same without the line-rider aspect, and the line-rider aspect wouldn't exist here without the music. But in coming back here about 50 times and relistening to it, I've noticed things like. The first and last pieces of the video are the same bit of music, but they feel radically different because of the animations, even when i'm only listening to this and im on another tab, or in the shower, or washing dishes, where i can't watch the video. Or like how I actively dislike part 2, but seem to be physically incapable of turning it off. Or how the credits at the very end, the music made me cry the first time, and I've never cried because of music since.

You are a line rider. You get to choose how fast and slow you go, but it also depends on the very journey you're on now. There's days where the uphill slows you down and you feel tired, exhilarating downhill that fills you with adrenaline. There's days you get to glimpse over what the beautiful horizon have for you, and days where you ground yourself and return to reality. You miss the calm days when it's over, yet you find yourself only reminiscing the adventurous days. You only know what's ahead but not the destination. We all ride on the very line called life. Not knowing what we can expect from it. But what we have is our family, friends, lovers, enemies that very lines happen to cross upon. And sometimes they've been moving each day closer and closer to you. But there's also times where people move away from your line. It can get lonely when it happens. But I hope you see further than a stone's throw away because you'll never be always alone. I am a line rider. You are too. We all are.

This is actually the best representation I ever saw of how having music-visual synesthesia feels like to me. Music does not look like this, but listening to music often feels like riding "through" it, just like the little guy does here. The amount of detail, the accuracy is incredible. You put the music it self into visuals. It's beautiful, I watch this video every once in a while and I always get goosebumps :)

This for some odd reason makes me break down. The synchronization of the rider with the music is so beautifully orchestrated and conveys such a flattened, linear, yet emotional interpretation of the music itself. The fact that you sat here and did this plus the ethereal quality of the its concept has me crying and I cannot figure out why. Good job man.

Hey everyone, looks like this video has ads again now. I would turn them off if I could. They are there because of a music copyright claim by the record label. When I first uploaded this, the credits music and the album were claimed by two different labels resulting in a copyright deadlock, thus no ads. That appears to have changed and now they are sadly both claimed by the same record label. Anyway, if you hate ads as much as I do, I recommend AdBlock! It's free and I use it myself.
@rabidsquirrel117
@rabidsquirrel117 6 жыл бұрын
IDK why I didn't see this when you posted it so sorry for only responding just now. I donate directly to creators whose work I value (when I can afford it) and I recommend you do the same! In brief, KZfaq's system favors advertisers and music record labels over creators and an advertising model prioritizes clicks over quality. I myself will probably never get any money from KZfaq ads despite spending thousands of hours creating Line Rider tracks watched by millions of people, and many of the creators I love are in similar situations. This is (one of the reasons) why I use AdBlock and then give directly to creators who do quality work, via platforms like Patreon.

It's because it's a massive legal grey area which the music records won. Rather than just flat out remove your video for using copyrighted materials (which they are WELL within their rights to do) they've decided to just throw on ads and get revenue. As a result, you get a video and they are happy as well.

Consider me destroyed. This album was largely influential to me back when it came out in 2008 and I was in my late teens out living away from home for the first time. I honestly haven't listened to it in years, and watching this brought back a big wave of nostalgia for an emotionally intense time in life. What a delightful way to rediscover an album! I'm not a connoisseur of Line Rider music videos - I've only stumbled upon them here or there over the years. I didn't walk into this expecting to be emotionally moved by a line rider track, but that's what you did. By using a relatively simple aesthetic, you put a huge focus on the music itself - Music that, to me, isn't something that you just turn on in the background and fully enjoy. This Will Destroy You is meant to have your full attention, and you gave it that with this track. I love how you used line placement to put a spotlight on the percussion, how you used curves to draw attention to the melody, and how you used speed to bring focus to the intensity. You really understood this music and you passed on that understanding to your viewers. I love love love the subtlety in track 2. The finale caught me completely off guard. There were too many great moments in between to mention. I delight knowing that this may be many people's first introduction to This Will Destroy You and to post-rock in general. Incredible work.

2 1/2 minutes had passed and I then realized I had stumbled across a masterpiece. In someways it was exactly what I needed, where I’m at in life, where my minds at on this beautiful night as I lay in bed letting my thoughts get the best of me, the music took my emotions further into a drift, and sometimes that’s exactly what we need, a masterpiece to take our minds adrift on early mornings when we’re sad and our minds are attempting to regain hope of something we thought we’d lost. That hope for what I’m loning for is slowly coming back.

I first stumbled upon this video a few years ago. It was a comfortably warm summer night, and I'd been up all night playing Salt and Sanctuary. It was three am; the sky was turning a light blue along the horizon as dawn neared, and as I browsed KZfaq looking for some music to have in the background, I saw a video simply entitled "This Will Destroy You: a Line rider feature film." Hah, this will destroy me will it? Pfft. My oh my, how bold a claim. One hour later I was completely blown away, entirely speechless. Awestruck. Destroyed, definitely. Over the years that have passed since then, I've often thought of this incredible work of art, and I still find it difficult to put into words just how much it means to me, so I won't try. Thank you, for making this. Thank you, for introducing me to the wonderful world of post rock, and one of my all time favorite bands. Thank you, for spending all those hours on making this and then sharing it with the world. Thank you.

For the past couple of minutes I was trying to wrap my head about what happened in the past hour. I watched a dude ride lines on a sled to the beat of the music. For an hour I was completely alone with my thoughts and this guy. Except that's wrong. Somewhere between us lingered a piece of the artist. Both the music and the ride. And within them lingered pieces of their inspirations. As I looked at the comment section I saw that all of that has passed on to thousands of people who watched it. And that shows the artistry of this creation. It doesn't have to tell anything specific, in fact it doesn't have to tell anything at all, but the fact that the artist could be seen through the art makes this an outstanding piece. It makes people think, it makes us discuss, it inspired all of us. It was a wild ride, if you will. It didn't destroy me - on the contrary, it filled me with joy of the most sincere kind. Thank you for creating this and sharing it with us.

I used to play this game when I was younger, but just aimlessly made lines and squiggles for the guy to ride on. this takes me back. but it also makes me think of the future. this takes you on the journey of life. all the complicated spirals representing struggles and hardships. sometimes shit gets hard, and then it gets even worse. sometimes it's calm, but sometimes it's just the calm before the storm. but you just have to hold on. this was incredible and I'm so glad I watched the whole thing! by the end I was definitely crying. I can't belive all this came from a simple computer game I used to play as a child

That's exactly the point, mate. I'm not an art guy either - heck, I even dislike fantasy universes because of the stupid logic driving them. I've always despised things like modern "art", poetry and shit, but this... My fucking god, this shit is trippy. Mechanical part of it being one of the reasons (was constantly thinking how this was created), but for the whole length I have never even tapped the screen to see how much is left, and even regretted letting my eyes rest for a few seconds (I'm really sleepy). Holy shit, I want to rewatch it while being high.
