Hi Jac....I work in HR in another Government Dept and my area of expertise is Success Profiles, training staff and panel members. I use your videos regularly when delivering workshops on SP as they are so good from a candidate's perspective and are put in a simple way people can understand (which cannot be said for some other videos on YT). So just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work and next time I visit Companies House in Cardiff where our office is, the beers on me 😀🍺

I think that says everything people here need to know about the recruitment process, it's your area of expertise and you rely on a KZfaq video to train people because Jac has a better understanding of the process than a CS "expert" 😮😮😮

Hi Jac, I wanted to thank you for this tool and all your videos around civil service interviews. They helped me immensely to understand the interview process and prepare my answers. I attended my very first civil service interview and got the job! The money spent on your Excel sheet was well worth it! Thanks so much!

Hello Mr Jac, hope you find well. Thank you for your video and great tips for interview. I would request you make a video about how to write a good personal statement for a civil service job and at an interview how a candidate presents their behaviour example to the panel?

Thanks for the videos but sadly I didn't get an EO job that I went for even though I have been doing the role on TRA for 18 months and 20 years as an AO. Sadly, it is a tough gig going up against Oxbridge graduates trying to show strength and behaviours when so much of Operational Delivery is processing.

Did you get any luck with your career progression? I have been in an AO position on the phone for 2 years, most of my original team are now in EO positions in different departments. I am tempted to move sideway to another AO role, hoping to develop some caseworker skills to eventually get into an EO role
@Atticus75
@Atticus75 9 ай бұрын
@OceanChild75 No, sadly. I have another EO role coming up which I am applying for and like you have been considering moving sideways to another AO role. So many more people seem to be applying for Civil Service roles but I think that will change once to goes to 2 days only WFH which is less than most of other Insurance/Adminstatvie organisations. All the best for your future job endeavours.

I worked at the Home office for 6 years. Recently I have tried getting back in after taking time off for travelling. I am currently on a reserve list for an EO position as well as an AO position. I scored a 6 out of 7 and have been placed on a reserve list. There isn’t any consistency I’m afraid. I would have thought after scoring so well and having 6 years experience would have got me straight back in and not placed on some reserve list. The recruitment service needs a restructure which I’ve been saying for years but nothing has happened. It puts people like me in a tough situation who have the years experience as well as the comps to back it up. Unfortunately it all comes down to who is sifting the applications, sadly they won’t take time of experience in a certain role into consideration which to me is backwards. Going round in circles here.

Many thanks for your videos, Jac and for putting the tool together. Will be using it this week to practice for my interview next week. A quick question for you on that. What is the dress code for Civil Service job interviews these days? Is it formal still or more smart now, i.e. can I drop the jacket and tie? My CS interview is for a Product Management role and I haven't had to take an interview in over 8 years.
@JacWilliamsVideo
@JacWilliamsVideo Ай бұрын
Hey! You're welcome. It depends largely on the department, but If it was me I would probably go for a shirt with trousers. I don't think you'll need a tie but if you feel good in one, go for it!

Many thanks for your videos. I am interested in applying to the CS. The only thing I am concerned about, is applying to lower rungs of the ladder for 1. Being stuck in an admin role , and 2. The money is not great to allow me to save. I have recently applied to a HEO position.. i imagine these are extremely competitive? Given the financial incentives? I believe i have excellent transferable skills for the "presenting Officer" role, however my background is in research, in med school. And i am wondering if you think i stand a chance at tracking this? Or is this role aims more on experience, specific backgrounds, as opposed to someone new to the CS, coming from a totally different industry/background?
