I've heard this theory that I really like. Pink never understood how much she mattered to those around her Pink never understood how much she meant to the other diamonds (even White) "Blue and Yellow don't care, this is Pink diamond's colony"(side-eye) She never intended for Spinel to be stuck in the garden forever, she didn't expect herself to matter so much to Spinel that she would've stayed and waited for thousands of years She didn't understand how much she meant to the gems, she finally felt like she could be someone good (see: "love like you) when she allowed Steven to take form, and in her mind giving up herself for a life far more precious than her; not understanding how gravely it would affect the few still around her.

@@pedrosso0 I don't think it's necessarily "not understanding", I think she just held the belief that she didn't matter, and it's understandable--- considering how she was treated the majority of her life. She was sort of treated like a child, and "disciplined" accordingly, and yes she did, *act* like one, but the concept of being a child is foreign to gems. And she was treated like this, the entirety of her life as a diamond. Pink diamond says it herself, "I'm just as important as you"-- which does imply she did have self worth at first, but Yellow diamonds treatment followed after can definitely imply that this was implemented as she "grew up", essentially. Or well, changed. She may be a diamond but she probably just hated herself, she wasn't treated like an equal and the times she was treated with respect/decency was when she was either giving entertainment(entertaining the other diamonds), or when she was talking to gems of a lower position, which I personally assume she probably didn't think it was genuine. But I think she'd rather choose that, fake care rather than the abuse she faced as a diamond--- from not being treated as nothing more than a child, or in even harsher words, a Dog, to living a life where people somewhat care about her. To summarize this, Tltr; I don't think she didn't understand, she just hated herself so much from how she was raised; she couldn't see it being a reality.

The worst thing is that the Diamonds did not actually acknowledge their abusive behaviour from the way they treated Steven when he appeared in Homeworld and they thought he was Pink. They've realized it just later.

The sad part is that they thought it was best for pink when she just wanted to be free now since they weren’t in control of white they saw what they did to pink and what was wrong they wished they could go back when they realized but it was eras ago light years. So sad and they say it’s for kids.

I find it so intriguing that there were so many holes in Pinks discuise and story cuz in her story as Rose Quartz, Garnet says she was made here on *Earth* on Lars' ship, the "reject" gems talk about how she's a gem from homeworld, before Garnet ofcourse says that she was "made on Earth" and tells the story she was made to believe but when Rose danced with Greg, he asked her if she missed her home planet, and she didn't stop to think and say "Earth *is* my home planet", she instead immediately went "no, never." even tho Garnet and the other gems at the time were listening, and no one batted an eye at it

I always get so heart sunken when people voice hatred for pink, never mentioning how much she was abused and how much she pushed to do better. I think, coming from a family that treated me fairly similar, i could only see kinship in pink. So when people talk about how dare she give up her life to make steven, how selfish it was of her...i can only think about how much she was thinking "ill finally be useful. Ill make life from nothing" (the nothing, being how she views herself, as she was treated like she was nothing all her life, despite being a ding dang diamond)
