Welcome to Simply Living It. Today I want to talk about homeschooling during Christmastime! We have been homeschooling for 13.5 years and I am feeling a pull to let it all go for December. Slowing down and simply being present. More time for memories and intentionally investing in those moments. Every season we walk through looks different and I am learning to embrace that. To clothe myself in His grace every morning and to just be in whatever the Lord has for us for that day.

I was listening to your video while driving home from work and when you mentioned the Christmas lights, I decided to go through a few housing development slowly and admired the Christmas lights before I went home. What a relaxing fun idea that I haven’t done since I was a kid. I’m in my thirties now. This video was so relaxing and inspiring. I agree that slowing down is so important. Thanks for another great video. Merry Christmas!

My favorite tradition from my family is that my parents gave us 3 presents Gold, frankincense, and myrrh. To this day I treasure that and it is really overwhelming to me with my husband's family now that they get so much and buy so much. My kids have asked for more hot cocoa movie nights and then going to look at Christmas lights.

Totally can relate! Just got my tree and apt decorated yesterday, lol. I’m a silent subscriber and have been following you since 2020, to learn more abut homeschooling. This year, I decided to have a “slow and steady” pace for my 6th grader. He’s been in Abeka’s accredited program for 3 years. It’s been some “highs & lows”, but this year, I decided to school him in a way that actually feels “present, relaxed, and comfortable”. I was trying to juggle school with my demanding WFH job the first 2 years and it was HARD!!! Changed my work schedule and it has been such a blessing. This was motivating to hear another mom w talk about us “mamas giving ourselves GRACE”

Sometimes, something as simple as a schedule or routine change up, can totally alter our whole experience! I am so proud of you for following that leading to slow down and soak it up. Lol, we were going to go to the parade on Saturday, but I didn't feel like rushing to get there, so we went to the park instead. I'm over the stress.

A fun tradition that we have with little ones is to put out a 'play' nativity set. We have a big ceramic set that sits high and visible on a shelf also, but having a set that allows our children to 'play out' the nativity story has been beautiful in these little years. Thank you so much for this. I’ve been struggling with the idea of wanting to change things up and maybe do “Christmas school” for the first time….. but then the stress of trying to figure out what to do or how it would look while not completely dropping all of our other school subjects was just becoming stressful and weighing me down. Thank you for this reminder that I don’t necessarily have to change up what we’re doing for school in order to have fun and enjoy togetherness during the Christmas season. So many of the things that are special during this season are not even school related and that’s fine. Thank you for this encouragement. God used it to encourage me when I was feeling down and doubting myself. Thank you! ❤️

I asked my 5 kids individually (boys and girls ages 7-18) what they’d like to do as a family between now and Christmas and wanted to share with you the compiled list of what they said. Look at Christmas lights. Play board games. Watch Christmas movies while eating popcorn with Christmas M&Ms sprinkled in. Bake cookies. Eat chocolate chip cookies. Eat sugar cookies. Make fudge. Make peppermint bark. Give presents. Nothing elaborate or difficult! PS: We missed the parade for the second year in a row!

This spoke to my heart today, thank you. This year is different for us too, we are putting our faith in God for direction and guidance with big changes coming up. This will be a simpler Christmas, I've two young kids but I think that the simple memories with hot chocolate, making decorations and watching a movie or two, will keep my head away from worrying if I'm doing enough.
