The expression on your face at 'five by five' was what I was waiting for. One of the best episodes of season 4. And thank you for the little serenade in the middle - it was exactly what started playing in my head too. 😁

This episode is how you bring a character back. And the showcase of acting in the NEXT episode is extremely special (as good as Willow/Vampire Willow) Buffy at its best as a show.

Kudos to you for the Talking Heads reference... Happy Days - it's Dakara Day SMGellar's talent as an actor is criminally underrated - she performed at a time when "TV actors" were considered second tier but my point will be reinforced as we move along... my impression is that she's a team player, happy to maintain consistency and let others take the plaudits....

I love that nothing that Faith says to Joyce about Buffy not being around worked the way that Faith wanted it to. She kept trying to upset her & it just never worked. This was one of the best ways to fill in the time before Buffy needed to finally stop Adam without bringing in some random demon(s) of the week that viewers wouldn't have really cared about.

Faith wasn't trying to upset Joyce; she was trying to get Buffy really angry. It's also why she brought up Riley, after seeing Buffy get angry at the college confrontation. So angry that Buffy would be entirely focused on giving Faith a good pummeling. This serves Faith's plan (for Faith did indeed have a plan - why else was the gizmo downstairs?) in two ways. First, it stops Buffy wondering what Faith was doing there in the first place. Second, it weakens her own body so that when the body swap takes place she can quickly finish the fight and stop Buffy-in-Faith saying what happened or escaping etc.

So he basically tells her that with him gone there is nothing left for her in this world and he asks her to do one big FU to Buffy before she commits suicide.

The start where they are making the bed and Faith says 'Little Sis Coming' it will all make sense just be patient. Foreshadowing overload here! Even though I think S4 was not the best of Seasons overall, the stand out episodes and the comedy moments and one liners reached new levels. Faith's awakening dream scene a homage to 'Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption. Great writing again here. Soulless Spike still doing the best comedy ever. Great to see The Mayor in the video, a terrific ending to this episode setting up another great episode to follow. Very much a two parter with the even better next episode Who Are You.

It's not dwelt on in the general run of the series and kind of lost in the fact that Buffy only fights vamps and demons, but a murderous rogue Slayer is simply terrifying. She can kill any human with a single unrestrained blow. Absent Buffy, Faith could have walked into Giles' apartment and torn everyone limb from limb without getting a scratch.The Slayer vs Slayer fights illustrate that by the sheer destruction they wreak on the environment. Buffy the Cave Slayer was frightening (for a moment) in an otherwise goofily funny episode.
