one thing that i've thought of about the topic of Link talking, I really think they'll use the manga for inspiration of Link's personality. In those, specifically the Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask manga, he has a more serious and mature personality that's still caring, it honestly fits him

They could always give Link the John Wick treatment. He talks a bit, but not as much as Zelda does. Though what I'm afraid of is if they eventually bring in the Rito. Just like with what you said about the Zora, I wouldn't want a very realistic bird person. But something closer to how Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom interpret the Rito

People thought that the decective pikachu movie was going to be bad because it was live action and that film was great, so I think that it could work with Zelda

People kept forgetting the reason Link doesn't talk is because in the game, he's your stand in. Movie Link is not your stand in, he's his own character so of course he is going to speak and I hope he speak a lot. Different medium, different rules altogether.

I'm still holding out hope for an animated adaptation, especially with all of the amazing fan folms we've had over the years that adapted LoZ into the the Studio Ghibli artstyle

#1 fear is casting… if it where animation all you have to worry about is voice acting and making a character sound right. Now they have 3 of the most iconic video game characters ever made and they need to find actors that look like, sound like and can act like them… has me worried a little bit ngl. Also I think animated movies are just way more expressive

While I am a bit disappointed that we aren't getting a Ghibili Zelda movie, here are my suggestion for Wes Ball that myself and other Zelda fans really wanted to see in a live action version: -History of Hyrule, the Goddess Hylia, Demon King Demise and the Triforce - Ganondorf as the main baddy with some more in depth into his character - Link x Princess Zelda's relationship. - Cast anyone that isn’t Tom Holland for Link. - Link’s inner struggle between being a Hero of Hyrule and his own happiness. - An original story ( not a copy of OT, BOTW or TOTK) that is well structured with it's own set of characters, a new version of Hyrule, and a epic action- fantasy with a dash of gritty realism that is build by confident writers. - Other hidden abilities the Master Sword can do other than sealing away the darkness

This Avi Arad guy worked on Bratz: The Movie (2007)..... Its safe to say we are in good hands

This is my hope...that the last thing in their heads is to make a movie for a "modern audience" nor with "modern sensibilities" in mind. I hope this movie takes most of its artistic inspiration from Epics like The Lord of the Rings, Princess Mononoke, Willow and The Dark Crystal. I miss great/timeless fantacy stories with heroes and characters like Aragon, Frodo/Sam or Willow. I love Demon Slayer's Tanjiro and Nezuko. Two heroes who are evolving and enough time is allowed to show their growth with the help of their friends and the guidance of their forebears. I miss old sages like Gandalf. I hope Link is not all powerful, wise and skilled from the start. I hope they make an epic with heart that anyone can relate with. Disney has made plenty of dull characters who are all powerful, who are initially overshadowed by others and dream to become greater than their peers. Tanjiro's dream is to have a simple life and restore his sisters humanity. Willow, Frodo and Sam all are called in for a greater cause but understand how small they are in a vast world. Aragon has no desire to rule men for his own glory but cares for his friends and what is right. Disney wants to "Let the past die. Kill it if you have to" But I think this is one of the main reasons they are doing so bad these days...We have forgotten our humanity in movies. This story can be Epic, magical and timeless.

Ocarina of time is the perfect story to tell.

I'm actually very excited for live action. I can't wait to see what they do with this.

I am generally pretty excited for the zelda film. The fact that a movie is being made based off my favorite game franchise of all time baffles me. I am also kinda worried that the live action won't do the series justice and that it will seem, just odd. I believe that Nintendo will be able to make a good movie based off the series but I do still think animation style like the mario movie would have suited better.

I think the best game to adapt or maybe look for guidance towards would be twilight Princess. The story and characters are more grounded, not too cartoony, and a lot of it is based off of real life. Plus it’s their best Zelda game imo and I’d love to see it and see an older link instead of a child. I pray this movie ends up being great and honestly I hope it turns out to be the best movie of all time and turns into a series maybe or has sequels. Also I think in this Zelda they should make Link in his teens and in the beginning he has a sorta Guts vibe but toned down, where he’s a man of few words but has a softer side and such. Also for an actor for Link, I think the dude that plays Dalton from insidious looks like a good link, and he really wouldn’t need to talk

Okay, hear me out. Cast Tobey Maguire as Link, cast Andrew Garfield as Toon Link, and cast Tom Holland as Kid Link.

I'm thinking the movie will probably look something like Game of Thrones. You probably won't see Link in his recognizable green clothing and you probably won't see Zelda in a pink dress. I'm guessing PG13 with adult themes. Apart from the story it'll probably be unrecognizable to most fans. That's my guess anyway.

I actually think the story of Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity would make a good place to have the movie.

Hey Nin10doland! I'm cautiously optimistic for this. I don't know what to expect story-wise. If it is an adaptation of any past game, Twilight Princess would fit most visually and I would love it personally since it's my favorite 3D Zelda game and my childhood Zelda game and my introduction to Zelda in general too.

my worry is this will ruin link as a silent protagonist, and as a gender ambiguous character which was a large part of the inspiration for his original design. if he's cast as a real man who talks then all that disappears. it could be cool if he actually *does* end up being mute and uses subtitled sign language...

Imagine instead of one movie we get a trilogy. First movie is about child link and zelda where our villain will be something like the original ganon or calamity. Second movie we have a skyward sword link. Ganondorf is introduced and is the main villain for the second. Final movie. Botw age link. There could be 2 options for this 1) Tears of the kingdom demon ganon as main villain with another side villain such as Majora or Zant. 2) they bring Astor back who is plotting to revive a demon king. This is not ganondorf but instead Demise. Girahirm can be there aswell. At the end Ganondorf somehow redeems himself and all 3 parts of the triforce fight in one final battle against Demise

For those of you who have doubts of a Smash Bros. Movie, there is a way they can make it work. Animation and Live action combined. It has been done before in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “Chip ‘N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse”. Don’t think for a second that Nintendo could refuse to go that route.

A Legend of Zelda movie is only a couple hour old news for me right now, but gosh it hadn't occurred to me to fear for how they could mess it up until you pointed it out. You do bring up good points though. I will hope for something as quality as a Lord of the Rings or Avatar style, & I think Nintendo has a good chance of pulling it off well. Just the fact of their high standards & care they put into their games, I think we most likely have something to look forward to.

Link’s most likely gonna talk, because he probably wouldn’t matter more than fighting if not, and he talked in the old animated series for TLOZ. One of his iconic lines was “Well excuuuuuse me, Princess!”.

For me I am big on original storyline. As someone who used to write fanfic, one thing I have learned is that being creative is one thing, but going over board and with big ideas when scripting can lead to a compromised storyline. And fans will pick up on this especially if events are out of order or are completely missing. I hope that those involved with scripting pay close attention to the sequence of events in the Legond of Zelda storyline. Moreover, that they do not write something that completely punches holes in the original storyline there by throwing everything off. I say this because I have seen this happen in other movies or tv series. Especially those that had been taken over by Netflix in terms of production

I really hope they set it in the same world as BOTW/HW/TOTK since those games are most fresh in people's minds. Recognisable places, characters, references etc. Get the Champions or Sages in along with references to Zonai, the Dragons etc. Though at the same time, would be amazing if they cast a child and adult Link, as a nod to OOT. It would be a good way to introduce people to him speaking because hearing a child speak feels more natural and simple. It could be part of playing, fighting or whatever. Once you get used to kid Link talking, it would build up the suspense and excitement for the adult voice (and reduce potential cringe of hearing him talk after all these decades).

I’ve been tellin by people for years it’ll be live action and even made a video about it a year ago going why it was the most likely option. That being said, I do think they’ll do an animated Zelda at some point. I mean, technically they already have, but it’s one of the few more heavy IP’s Nintendo has, so they could make different kinds of adaptations and explore different stories in different ways.

The thing ive been wanting since i played Zelda 3( ALTTP) and always wanted a zelda movie...and as each new game came out i wanted it more...especially when OOT,MM,BOTW,and now TOTK have been such epic games and the storyline is so ....structured,lol....then they did lord of the rings...and i feel like u cant get better than those movies, as far as that type of fantasy movie.....but i hope they do it justice

In an alternate reality if Robin Williams was still alive i would've had him as the king of Hyrule and his daughter Zelda Williams be Princess Zelda. Since they love the series so much.

Now, as someone who has enjoyed many stick figure animations= I know for sure that you can make good experiences without *any speaking roles at all* just fine- compared to that, a Silent protagonist is more than doable. That said, you don't often see stick-figure shows playing in theaters. And I can understand that It's probably in Nintendo's best interest to make the movie as accessible as possible. Not just to people who don't play the games, but for people who may also literally have impaired vision in addition to the voice. It's gonna be interesting to see what Nintendo thinks a good Link would be, for the people who aren't playing as them.

What if the races like Zora and Rito were done like the Avatar Movie did by using CG character animation filmed with new motion-capture techniques using live actors? For example how are they going to pull off a man in a bird suit flying around the sky while shooting a bow and arrow and have it look realistic "without" doing something similar to this?

I’d bet good money that the movie is going to be Ocarina of Time. Starts with child Link, progresses to adult Link, it’s the most “Zelda” story and the best entry-point for audiences that have never played the games
