I couldn't believe he left Liverpool so quickly. It felt like he was here for half a season, dominated games, outplayed and out thought everyone on the pitch, then he was gone. Assuming from some of the other comments that he had injury problems and that's what prompted the early exit, but what a shame. He was the sort of player to build a side around. Absolute class.

He had his injury problems when he was at Liverpool, but Houllier often kept him benched even when fit, which was criminal because when he did play, he was brilliant.

I remember the time well and you are absolutely correct. I too was frustrated as to why Houllier limited his playing time. I remember being disappointed when the player left the club.

Definitely under used. Great talent as to why Ged didn't play him often enough was unfathomable.

@@martinahardaker8739 Yes Martina, sadly you & I did not choose the team when Jari was with us. I also really like Mark Gonzalez...a superb winger, who was not give a chance to prove himself @LFC. Jari & Mark [ & Cisse]..VERY talented !!! Best etc. amiga.

Jari Litmanen was a gem of a player. Was excited when he signed for the reds in Jan 2001. A joy to watch when sadly he got injured, missing out on the cup treble that season.Houllier should have played him more the following season. The only footballer i know who played like he have the skills to open the vault at the bank!!!

Great player but injury in 2001 meant he missed all the finals of league cup, fa cup, uefa as Jamie did , Liverpool had the team to maybe go for the premier League if both had been fully fit

I was over the moon when he signed for us all those years ago, 1 of the best #10 at the time but too bad Houllier didn't play to his strength. Imagine him sitting behind Owen/Fowler & supplying through balls or arriving late in the box & score himself. Complete waste of his talent that we sorely missed in that team.
