Warcore is ok and all but when is Dunecore gonna become a thing? It's the perfect post-apocalypse style. Still suits sound like the ultimate tech wear too.

I’ve been mixing “warcore” (cargo pants, berets, combat boots) and menswear (sweaters, trousers, mid calf Chelsea boots) and vintage (hoodies, sneakers, backpacks) for about a year now and it do be pretty awesome, especially since it fits my body type better than all 3 of those do on their own.

I feel like videogames such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare putting a lot of research into military gears, and its realistic renditions in the game really kicks off the interest for Warcore. Warcore gives the feeling of what I call "lite-cosplay", it expresses your interest and dark aesthetic without making you look like a clown in the middle of the street, I think it's fantastic. Maybe in 2 or 3 years this style would be refined and implemented into other fields other than fashion, because I don't want the clean, market-friendly, and corporated style to ruin everything.

As a fashion school dropout all I can add is, consume consciously and consider that fashion is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world lol

I wore a heavy warcore outfit to a DnB rave and had SOOOO many compliments and people saying "you dress how I want to dress". Made me feel really good about the style and definitely going to start finding ways to make my warcore items fit into a day-to-day outift. The thing that got the most attention was the ghillie hood I was wearing (same as the one at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="236">3:56</a>), then people noticed the Holy Grail trousers and loved them

I live across the street from an army base and several service members live in my building. Most of them mix military elements far more creatively by accident than the people I see using techwear or warcore hashtags on Instagram. I really hope that as a subculture it does bridge the gaps you're talking about! Even the humble T-shirt was a military piece originally.

It seems like warcore is getting more over the top the more it evolves I used to wear warcore but the more subtle type like no chains , loads of straps etc and I mean tiktok really doesn’t help with this blurred line between the genres

I kind of love how ridiculous and theatrical this style is, and can see myself taking influence (been thinking about getting a chest rig/utility belt or something for a while, because I hate bags, especially women's handbags). Weirdly what neo-Insta-warcore reminds me of, more than anything actual military, is something like The World Ends With You or even Kingdom Hearts. Like, not even any actual post-apoc shooters - the exaggerated silhouettes and straps all read SUPER Square Enix to me, lmao. Also, your 'warforecast' at the end was super cool. Never really studied clothing or fashion in that way before and it's super interesting.

When I first started my journey getting into techwear, I started in the “Warcore” genre, because I didn’t know there was a stark difference. But now that I’ve been “in the know”, I don’t mess with it anymore.

I always get goofed on for wearing military stuff in my civilian outfits and thought I was the only person who did. Didn't know there's an entire fashion theme for what I wear until now. Pretty cool and Im gonna keep rocking the warcore

I go hiking a lot, i've been into techwear for ages and usually when i get new gear, balancing it with utility, i end up in military gear pretty often. I really really appreciate the more minimal looks!

I've found myself falling in love with the Warcore/darkwear aesthetic, but more so because it blends the punk/hardcore/industrial genres that I love with the futuristic/cyberpunk aesthetic that's really been influential to me. I've moreso been blending a few bits of warcore outfits into my usual outfit and finding I'm really hitting the way I want to represent myself

Warcore to me will still be this one style of fashion which will get boring after a while sadly. I used to wear it still do from time to time but as stated in the video a lot of stuff keeps reappearing, and that in my eyes brings down what warcore is to me. I enjoyed picking up an authentic Bundeswehr jacket and trousers mixing them with a vintage fanta t shirt and putting on a USMC vest. Sadly that vest now is also overdone because almost everyone on insta seems to wear them with either Holy Grail or MXDVS cargo pants with little to no variety in their outfits. My hope is just that people start modifying their stuff in warcore like turning a bomber jacket from a military surplus into a kimono style jacket and mixing in other brands to create unique pieces and outfits.

The term "warcore", with what I've seen, I would've thought was just the "fashionable" military-esque gear people wore either hunting, paintball, airsoft or essentially CoD character cosplay. Weirder still, I wouldn't have thought chest rigs were even considered warcore. There are a fair amount of rioters, gangsters and such who wear body armor and gas masks with streetwear (cuz America is just like that). In fact, I originally thought the implementation of minimalistic body armor and "darkwear" was specifically to emulate the look of rioters to give off the rebel aesthetic. I never would have associated warcore/full-on tactical gear with techwear if not for instagram hashtags. :P

I love a lot of this style, but I just know I'd melt in this gear in anything like warm weather.

This is probably one of my favorite videos of yours, ever. Very educational, well explained and a good reference when you need to explain 'tEchWEar' to people. I don't condone people for dressing like that or for liking the aesthetics but I want them to be educated about it more than what the hashtag might show and lead to believe.

Honestly, I kind of fell into this style. For years I'd been dressing monochrome black and incorporating subtle jewelry and military clothing into my wardrobe, and suddenly warcore comes along to give me more inspiration. I never want to be one of those ig model warcore people, and I feel I still have my own style. But I'm grateful that others are leaning into this style as well and creating its niche, so there are more cool items for me to look for.

You bring up a few interesting points on Warcore as a whole. I, personally, have a few simple outfits from this dropship called Fabric of the Universe, and I think they fit the genre. That point you made with appearance over wearability immediately came to mind as the stuff I got is pretty comfy, and I'm actually kinda sad I can't wear parts of my outfit until I get them dry cleaned. Lil pricy, as is thematic at this point, but I encourage you to check em out.

Wowm very impressed, ive never been interested in fashion at all. As a child teen i would wear the normals stuff and when i became an adult my taste in music solidified my style for pretty much every occasion. I'm not sure if yt recommended your channel because its going viral or they found out that i bought the "the world shall know pain" t shirt from nevstudio (without ever buying anything remotely techwear ever again=, but i am very impressed in the informative and interesting structure of your videos. Also, I think warcore enthusiasts could find a lot to like in brands like 5.11, triple aught, arcteryx leaf, Tikak, alpha industries, etc. Those brands produce durable base pieces that provide functionality and quality, and the warcore crowd can add accessories to that functional gear

I try to blend all three whenever possible (Darkwear, techwear, and warcore) because I like the all black military aesthetic but I also love minimalism and function. I do own a couple holy grail pants, but I came across a brand that’s more finically friendly and has a lot of variety due to their ever changing styles and limited stock; they’re called Goodddvil (no “e”) and they’re based out of Mexico. Maybe you could do a review on them and see what you think.

Nice video, I like your take on it even though it seems obvious that you are not super into it urself. Still you were fair. I'd love to see more videos in the direction of "war core" or just stuff that pushes in the direction of that aesthetic but doesn't over do it like holy grail... Maybe minimalist war core? finding a way to fit the more formal military items into warcore could be an interesting take on it. mixing aspects of service dress with the more high tech pieces in a fashion similar to how modern police uniforms often mix formal and functional element.s

I haven't seen many "dirty" war-surplus inspired looks yet I must say. Honestly most my surplus and repro stuff is pretty well-worn and doesn't always fit in well with my regular clothes. Things like high/work boots and pants. Still wear them plenty though.

Your videos have helped me think about my own wardrobe a lot and make better purchases. I grew up wearing lots of army surplus and had an appreciation for the tacticool look which lead me to warcore. So I've been trying to forge my own look by leaning toward real tactical gear over branded and dropshipped chest "rigs" and leaning toward more form fitting and feminine looks as opposed to the baggy look. Namilia (a rave clothing co.) Had a whole like of tactical inspired stuff for women. Their super cropped bomber jacket is prob one of the more interesting pieces and the tactical corset is still a fav of mine. I appreciate the suggestions on how warcore can prevent from stagnating.

Tbh i accidentally slipped into warcore before going to kore technical outfits, one of my favourite pieces was an old military light jacket i picked up from a vintage clothes shop, had all sorts of wear, i still wear it all of the time

I've always looked up to techwear for its functionality, cyberpunk for its louder use of color & futurism, and warcore for its more tactical aesthetic, and through these 3 things ive kinda come to develop my own sorta style! Very colorful, futuristic fits with even some of the MOST classic warcore pieces (i own the black holy grail cargos 😳), yet often trying to implement more functional pieces for staples, such as uniqlo airism, waterproofed overcoats (Quick sidenote, I've got this AMAZINGLY LIGHT yet water resistant Nemen x Kith Kimono with a red-silver dye, got it off of someone on depop, and it is EASILY ONE OF MY FAVORITE PIECES EVER), fabrics like schoeller dryskin, etaproof, etc., and my trusty Orbit Gear R221 in silver! 😎 I also love to overaccessorize, but honestly in a more wearable way with things such as bracelets and necklaces, with pins, patches and keychains on my bags and whatnot, almost more akin to a Japanese Harajuku-esque style, instead of plate carriers, chest rigs, holsters, etc that you commonly see in warcore. Anyway, I honestly am glad to have gone down the fashion rabbithole far enough to have come to appreciate all 3 of these styles for all their different reasons, and honestly I'm happy with the result! Thoughts? (Oh also, the prestos in racer pink may be one of my favorite techwear pieces ever, "big surprise there")

thought one: (unrelated to a point) stumbling on and watching your channel reminds me of the super cool all white y3 shoes i got at an outlet years ago when i worked at disney. (i wish i knew what happened to them) thought two: (mildly related) just wanted to throw my hat in that calling lolita fashion 'cosplay' will absolutely ruffle petticoats. while there are people that use the fashion in costumes and cosplay it is a fashion. (one that really hates being associated with cosplay or the book it shares a name with) regardless excited to find your channel honestly haven't come across fashion related content like this that wasn't related to lolita or various Japanese alt styles. been interested in this and related styles for years but honestly have been in a funk of not bothering to care about my personal style. keep up the cool content.

I ordered "holygrail" clothes for myself - absolutely uncomfortable to wear, I put them on only once, now they are gathering dust in my closet.

I would agree that, at least in the early phase of it, that "warcore" (but I'd say surplus core would fit better) was a gate way into thinking about individual dress sense. As it did rely alot on surplus equipment and at a time where it was very plentiful, that being when much of the cold war build up stock was expiring for official use or just generally being sold off by countries. Flooding the market with cheap, durable and practical clothing. All ranging from work wear to dress uniforms. Combined with the rise in the internet, providing the perfect opportunity to experiment with a small budget. Spurring many of the modern style incarnations of today, such as: Vintage, classic menswear, utilitarian, post apocalypses and cosplay.

Mixing simple techwear stuff and a surplus jacket or just a simple bomber-jacket just fits so well. But every time I take out my Nike boots and the cargo pants it just looks too radical/aggressive to me.

Your channel popped up in my recommended for a while now but I never got around to check it out. Now I do and the first things tossed at me are an Evangelion reference and the Persona 5 OST combined with a well spoken englishman (at least judging by the accent). warcore has recently been a favorite style for me, not the all-black-techwear-cyberpunk style but vintage surplus. You can find a lot of cheap but durable cargos and field jackets at thrift stores and army navy stores, plus they are easily styled because of the earth tones.

When they said war is business and business is booming, I didn’t imagine fashion as well. But then again the fashion industry is a war zone on its own so make sense 😂🤣😂

mxdvs, which you have mentioned, is an awesome brand, plus the prices arent *that* outlandish, especially for what you get - imo a great stepping stone into these more over-the-top looks

Im literally wearing bdus from the surplus store right now, not for fashion at all but because they are comfortable, durable, only cost $20/pair. The best part is i can always get another pair exactly the same whenever i need, regardless of what trends are popular or how skinny society has decided jeans should be.

When i was in Highschool (that was 9 years ago) I frequently wore my airsoft chest rig as a replacement for my broken sling bags. It was a knock off chest rig that looks like D3CR, open mag pouch in front of it, 1 Medic pouch, and another one is just utility pouch which i use for my wallet and other item storing. I found it easier to access my item when i wore that chest rig. They often laugh at me though. Because obviously I stand out too much. And then I saw this video today.

I think its important to interpret fashion like strong spices in cooking you want to accent the dish, but if you take any one design element or flavor (pepper, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, curry etc) and try to make that your "thing" people are going to say your trying waaay to hard and/or you have no idea what your doing. We've all been there.

There's actually a feedback loop with this kit; a good example is Hazard 4, their kit was originally aesthetically form over function, but the kit was picked up by real soldiers and modded down-range and then their feedback to the company created more practical kit.

My favorite jacket is a 90s German flecktarn jacket I got in a goodwill.

When I think of "warcore" I think of Sabaton-meets- Architects music... but I've used military influence clothing items since I was a kid, but that's pretty common in the metal community. Getting into airsoft as expanded that and I've seen some gorgeous surprises items, got a full 1980s Yugoslavia sniper suit for cheap on a surplus website

I’m trying to combine Warcore-just the holsters, cargo pants, and pockets; steam punk; pirate core; and punk. Basically, i guess it’s more Cyberpunk and steampunk smooshed together along with 16 gauge hoop earrings (the main reason i mentioned pirate core) and a ton of bracelets… that’s the look I’m going for 😅

Does warcore works with molle flcs and alice gear? I don't play airsoft but i like the molle vests and belt kits so i plan to wear it to class and school without weapons of course.

Although I’m into tactical clothing or ordinary, I prefer different type of colors when it comes to a low profile civilian attire, but has vibes of a Private Military Contractor, as I would wear an olive drab top (OD green for short, or ranger green), and khaki tactical pants (or cargo pants). I grew fond of seeing quarter-inch zip long sleeved shirts, like the combat shirt for example, though I’ll be rolling the sleeves up, then combining the pants with a pair of boots i.e Merrell Moab 2 Ventilators or other boots like Altama (though I lack any for now lol). Back then, I would wear an all-black attire, though sadly my pair of black pants don’t fit me as well since I grew out of them months later, as they feel tight. Hearing the fashion trend with tactical attire sounds quite interesting for me to hear as well, though I would avoid wearing all-black attire since it’s not gonna be great for me when it comes to hot weather, as black absorbs all heat, which is why I pick other colors that would not be more into absorbing heat but capable of reflecting some as well.

THIS topic is so large, would be impossible to nail down in one video. Besides the term 'warcore' mixing military surplus and streetwear, well that was the start of streetwear. I repurposed my stepdad's olive drab army issue cargos into drop crotch shorts and wore them with screen printed t-shirts of rasta images I had made, in the 80s... that's when I met Sean (Stussy). He was only selling tie-dye shirts with his now famous signature on them in a sharpie. First he wanted to buy my shorts, but that ended in a short lived friendship where he asked to start a fashion label with me, yes really... obv didn't happen because I was too young and LA is too large, but the influence of military style was apparent even then. I was mixing skate ware and reggae looks into one style. Now look at Maharishi, this is literally their ethos, military looks for peacnicks. The duality of man.

I love the warcore style but I care about functionality. Not so bothered about water proof stuff, but light, comfy and breathable stuff is something I’m starting to look for. I don’t mind nonsensical straps and what not, it’s when they start getting in the way I guess.

I feel like Warcore is as valid as other alternative styles like Goth, Punk and so on. Sure they have no higher purpose like Techwear (Utility, Functionality, Highest Quality Material...) but they still serve the purpose to make people feel better about themselves by looking a way that people can enjoy themselves. Who am I to deny them that just because people feel like it's more cosplay than clothing or too cringe. I would just hope that the Warcore wasn't be so entangled with cheap aliexpress or dropshipping scam clothes. I hope that at some point there will be a shift to better and more eco friendly stuff. Fair Trade and Eco friendly doesn't mean Techwear price point. Even in the Goth fashion there is a shift to sustainable eco friendly cloths. Maybe if more dedicated Warcore brands evolve we will see the same shift or at least people will get decent quality stuff and not get ripped by dropshippers.

My style has always been a bit of a mishmash of stuff, a mix of rave and cyberpunk stuff. As a result of that and my separate general interest in guns/military history, I've always worn surplus with all sorts of things. A really solid base piece is woodland camo US pants, you should be able to find a pair in your size at a surplus store for $10-25, and in general unless you want stuff from ~40+ years ago nothing that catches your eye will be too crazy price wise, and will always be durable if not super comfy.

Aren't some of the examples you used in the 4chan screenshots of volkscore / volk fashion? I can't recall exactly what the term is but I gathered the practice of wearing reenactment/vintage garb was viewed differently than wearing the techwear-inspired-dystopian-warcore fashion. Or maybe that's a niche of the broad term warcore. I don't know, this is all new to me and very interesting; thank you for breaking it down.

I like to dress in a darkwear/warcore style and personally I would never wear something from aliexpress or simular websites. I get my cargos and sometimes hoodies from more mainstream brands, and I get my accessoires from brands like mxdvs

Ngl if i had the knowledge or resources, id just start my own lines for everything from cheap lite equipment to heavily branded stylized stuff.

Wack I used to essentially LIVE in Military surplus. I had a big wool classic camo coat, with heavy duty cargo pants and combat boots. It was very comfy...And I think that's affected my vibe haha.

You've said about same cargos from Holy Grail in warcore, meanwhile techwear uses j1 from 1999 and p10 with ametzu for 10+ years in half of the fits. So it is early to be talking about stagnation in warcore, give it some time. One of iconic techwear pictures includes Julius gas cargos and combat boots. What style is it then? I feel like sometime the difference would be amount of money the item sells.

As a huge fan of cyberpunk/cybergoth aesthetic which tend to be very maximalist with a lot of layering, I feel very guilty of liking this super strappy/decal type of fashion. Though I like some kind of balance. If I would wear some super complex cargo, I would keep if basic on the top, and the other way around trying to keep some harmony in the shapes. Like one warcore piece at a time I would say. I don't know if I make sense. And even though I like a good waterproof jacket, for my day to day waterproof pants are just way not adapted... I am not a skipper XD
