How to Play Waltz by Bartolome Calatayud (from RCM Bridges Grade One)
Level: Easy
This lesson is for my graded repertoire lesson series which you can find halfway down the lesson archive page (link above). When I teach guitar I have the student set up a model for technique and then they try to maintain that model when playing pieces. Therefore, straightforward pieces without too many weird shapes and stretches are very important for beginner to around grade 3 level students. This excludes many pieces but as a core set of works it is important.
This piece is an excellent little piece at the RCM grade one level. The nice melody, easy shapes, and repeated pattern is great for working on voice independence and balance. Get the book and follow the video lessons.

A bit late to the foray but I’m having trouble accessing the sheet music - it takes me to the site and all seems to load up fine but I cannot locate the button or option to purchase the book either in hardcopy or digital/pdf format.

Well, you'll want to, at a minimum, complete a beginner method book first. I'd recommend my free Volume 1 method and then maybe a good chunk of my Volume 2 method first.

Hi Brad, do you recommend using a rest stroke on the 1st string melody on this one?

You could try that while practicing but in actual performance use free stroke so everything is sustained and legato.
