The Cobblers is a shoe-repair shop in Miami. The shoe it's working on today is a rare pair of 1985 Chicago Air Jordan 1s that a client brought in to be resoled. The shoe is significant because of its rarity, even in an old condition. Michael Jordan's original 1985 Chicago Air Jordan 1s sold at auction in 2020 for $560,000. On the market, a good pair can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000. Because the client wanted to keep the originality of the shoes, they will be resoled using a donor sole. The team will go through the process of how they do this professionally to give the soles a seamless finish.

Same I was a sophomore, I still have my 1’s, 3’s and 4’s, never owned a pair of 2’s because they were heavy and I thought pretty ugly. They’re all in the OG boxes and good shape but this is why I moved onto old clothing. An old t shirt if taken care of will last for decades and you can still wear them.

The value of brand new vs. used in these varies significantly and price referencing this pair to a new pair is a little misleading. Before the sole swap these would probably fetch roughly $1000-$2500 based on size and a few condition factors.

Right that's what I was thinking o.O like a sole is a sole... Doesn't matter which upper it has, so choose the cheapest one. My only thought is that perhaps they didn't want a shoe from 2020 because the sole would be too white, taking one from 2015 means the slightly aged sole goes with the very aged upper better.

@@pathehe9182 They're too blown out to be worth more as original, if you're already doing a sole swap, may as well restore the rest of the shoe so its wearable, of course, by now even Dead Stock are no longer wearable due to the foam in the collar and the midsole air unit breaking down from age, so if they look anything close to "nice" on the outside, you should just leave them alone. This is the shoe equivalent of putting nice wheels and tires on your "all original" barely running beat to shit '69 Camaro Z/28.

What I really appreciate here is the attention to detail, craftsmanship, and care put into resoling what is essentially just a “single use” sneaker. Preserving sports history, fashion history, and shoe history is important to many. I will always disagree with the practice of modern shoe hoarders/resellers, and I love to see the owner of these shoes actually using them, or it seems that way if they’re getting resoled.

I had a new pair of Jordans every year for school back in those days. I even had the original air max shoes. I also had tons of G1 transformers and GI Joes. I wish I had stockpiled and stored all kinds of stuff. I could have retired confortably if I had known. Haha

It's been very loved by the owner... He didn't treat that shoe as an investment... He just used it as a shoe... :D
