I like that someone used and loved this bag. It's not just a trophy. It was a piece of someone's everyday life.

this is the cope people tell themselves after going on about ultra expensive bags being so high quality it will last a lifetime - yet this is the state from regular use. that money could have saved someone's life. someone paying that much for a bag will almost guaranteed have got it from exploitation of other people's wages. it's not their own "self-made" money, not in a world economy. just wage theft, spent on a bag that looks an awful state after only 8 years. I'm sure the people they have making those bags are being exploited wage wise too, and the people selling the leather for the bags. I get paying maybe up to 5k for a bag (that is still something I would never pay), but that much is just sick no matter how someone tries to justify it. because they have that amount of extra money to spend on a bag not higher quality than a 5k one, yet they're choosing to waste it on that instead of giving it back to a society that is suffering in poverty. they can do that, fine. but you can't expect most people in the world to judge them harshly for it.

I can appreciate that it’s a well used bag. In many ways some one who uses their things and isn’t over purchasing is nice. It’s also nice the owner loved the bag so much not to buy a new one but to fix it up. I don’t think the owner is looking to resell the bag, so I think it’s pretty great. Meanwhile there’s a lot of people who buy bags to hoard to sell for profit later.. I understand that as well. One of a kind with a one of a kind owner. It’s great.

Although I'm not sure if the person who decided to fix the bag would later then resell it because well tbh I don't know if fixing a birkin bag would sell for a lot. The majority of times people would rather pay a High Price for a good, great, ect condition item. They would only pay for an old item(whether it be a watch, birkin bag, ect) if the person who had it was a high profile celebrity, public figure, ect the Aka had a cool story. Just my two cent.

@@NB-tk8nv they said expensive, because that is 40k. yes, I can admire that to. but if anything, all these high quality fake bags that have been coming out have shown that you can get better quality bags for £450 than £15k. how can anyone think that bag is somehow incredibly high quality, when it looks like that from regular use after a few years. it might not have even been used that much. considering they have the expendable income to waste on that, they most likely have other bags. I'm not even against buying an expensive bag, but that is just extortionate and an ultra consumerist scam. I can admire the people who made it, not the company that jacks up the price. if we were in another world where most of the world wasn't living in poverty and this was made as like an art piece for a museum, I could appreciate it a lot more. however, that's not the case, it's not museum quality at all and most people don't have choice in having their wages stolen to pay for the lifestyles of people who waste it on things like a 40k bag that doesn't even last.

This is the best of the bag restorations I just watched today. If a part is badly damaged, replacing it with an equal part is just as good, if not better, than painting over and filling in the damage. I think it's magical that a bag can eventually, after decades of use and refurbish, have 100% new parts and still be the same bag because of the quality and attention to detail of the restoration.

He did one of the best bag restorations I've seen too. And I've watched dozens of videos on leather restoration. It was clever how he made sure the paint "faded" in some areas so it doesn't look odd. It would be a strange sight to see a bag with worn handles when the rest looks like new. Now I understand why some car paint shops have long talks with the owner and try to talk them OUT of doing a bumper-to-bumper paint job. They sand off and repaint the most damaged areas and only touch up some smaller, less noticeable parts because it will make the car look odd in some spots. Still, doing a paint job on a vintage car is not cheap. It can start at $10,000 and easily go farrrr beyond $25,000! Saw an auto detailer get his classic Porsche repainted and he got a bill for almost $20,000!

I guess it depends who your talking to; to me even $50 would be too much for a bag, but to someone $50,000 could be considered a steal. Its like the time I bought my niece the Tinkerbell DVD , which cost me like $30 at the time--this was like almost 15 years ago when she was a little kid, she's 19 now and I no longer buy her bad movies, not that that movie was all that bad, but not $30 worth in my mind. I honestly thought it was overpriced but she really wanted it so I got it. She watched the crap out of that damn movie and loved it so much, watched it more than once a day for months. I guess my point is that the value of the thing depends on who its for, and whether or not they can afford it.

I would at least expect the bag to hold up a bit better after just 8 years (or less). I know that the price is mostly an exclusivity thing, but to me it looks like they could certainly have done a bit of a better job when selling a luxury item like that. With a Ferrari you also know that the price isn't just the value of its parts, I doubt that a customer would accept it if it wore like this bag (maybe no the best example, since race cars do wear very quickly if you actually race with then, which is just indicative of race cars in general). Either way, I'm more shocked by the bad (material) state of this bag, rather than its price.

Really depends, but as a rule, it’s not worth as much as if it was original in good condition. Even the handle was replaced with cow leather which is way less expensive than crocodile.

Would this item still be original or fake components? If you restore an antique item it also looses $ value.
@lunaasonininongry6297
@lunaasonininongry6297 2 жыл бұрын
Im guessing that depends on the damage, if the damage is so big that it renders it unusable then it certainly looses $ value, but a restored bag especially one that is rare and is no longer being manufactured I’m guessing the $ goes up since it can be used. Just correct me if I’m wrong.

It is amazing how they saved this bag, or rather made a new one almost. I loved the care in details and most of it turned out amazing!! However the paint job on the front was awful. Really terrible. It looked like plastic and it looked sprayed on and not natural at all. The lightest blue was a miss. I work with distressing items so I know this could have been done so much better.

This popped up on my feed today, and it was fascinating. I have one question, why overpaint the leather rather than dye it the same blue? I would think the paint would deteriorate faster than dying the leather itself. Then again, I don't know anything about working with leather, maybe painting the color is standard practice.

I guess everything is relative. There's people on $20000 a year who spend $1000 on a week's holiday, all whilst being in debt. Now you multiply that by 40 and you get someone who might have $800k in their savings, very little debt and then have bought a 40k handbag which is an item that lasts and potentially increases in value. Personally, for me it's a waste of money, but looking at the bigger picture they are being wiser with their cash than the individual on 20k.
