UFC middleweight fighter Uriah Hall rates nine mixed-martial-arts scenes in movies and television, such as "Warrior" and "Attack on Titan," for realism.
Hall breaks down the kickboxing techniques in "Kickboxer," (1989) starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. He also explains the importance of fighting rhythm and strategies in "Black Widow" (2021), "John Wick: Chapter 2" (2017), and "Blood and Bone," (2009) starring Michael Jai White. He comments on the accuracy of fights in the octagon in "Warrior" (2011), "Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown" (2011), and "Bruised" (2021), starring Halle Berry. He also explains the accuracy of grappling moves in "Attack on Titan" (2013) and critiques his own performance in "Seized" (2020).
Hall has martial-art backgrounds in boxing, kickboxing, Kyokushin karate, wrestling, and Brazilian jiujitsu. He is ranked No. 9 in the UFC middleweight rankings as of November 2021. He was also a runner-up on "The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen."

Wish they had done John Wick Chapter 3 instead of 2 though - has the best moment of storytelling through a fight scene I've ever seen in a movie. It's where they pay off the setup where he was required to remove his belt entering the assassin training school and uses his belt in the fight against the two younger, faster knife weilding dudes. He uses his belt to loop around their wrists and necks and give himself the Sambo grips and handles to throw them into each other and slow them down - a realistic use of a flexible weapon and a great adaptation to simulate grappling with a gi/jacket. Amazing, amazing choreography.

Seeing this makes me feel sad, knowing that when Uriah first came into the UFC, he was one of the most dangerous fighters at that time. He was so strong, so quick. That mad KO in TUF showed he had good timing and move choice. That Uriah hall vs this Alex Pereira would be one of the fights of the decade.

As for the John Wick, with the lady not using her legs, in my not that long experience with some ju-jitsu pratice beginners often forget their legs. Rolling with random partners at a meet I noticed several people (men and women) just freezing up and not using their legs against me, either as leverage or for even the most basic hold on my legs. Legs are strong, use them! Kick me off you, use them to power an escape, try a hold. A seasoned assassin should of course know this, especially a woman - she's at a disadvantage against a man in arm strength but her legs will often be a lot closer in power.

I absolutely love watching that fight in black widow. I wasn't sure how much of it was for pure cinematography, but the concept of a perfectly matched fight, between siblings no less, made it feel really fun and enjoyable. That fight is literally the only reason I've watched the movie 7 times. Rear neck and choke was the only thing I was actually good at, when they taught basic hand to hand in bct. Granted that was 14 years ago, and I probably can't do it like I used to... but that was the one thing, where if I could get there, they were dropping. (Size depending ofc. I'm pretty small, so super buff dudes... not gonna work for me)

I remember Uriah Hall in The Ultimate Fighter. Right from the prelims he looked like a beast. He destroyed every opponent he got in the show. In the prelims he broke the guy's arm with a kick. In the show, first opponent, he did one of the most violent KO I've ever seen in MMA. Second one he triple-fractured the guys face with ONE punch. Third one he was on the bottom and FORCED his opponent to turn on his back by hitting him with his fists FROM THE BOTTOM, where it's so hard to generate power. Unfortunately, in the final, he faced a former teammate and it was very hard for him to go past that teammate/friendship barrier. He was a very emotional fighter. Like, the first guy he KOed and sent to the hospital, you could see he was so emotionally scarred by it. Very humane and nice guy, but also one of the hardest kicker I've seen.
