Totally agree. I honestly don't understand the logic in taking a kid who didn't have a history of serious crime, who was manipulated by an adult into doing something terrible, and when he realized the plan, he had no intention of killing anyone and tried to play the situation the best way he could. Now, obviously he could have made better choices, but he was 16 damn years old. An age where science agrees our brains are still developing such skills as impulse control and the ability to imagine long term consequences. They literally did the thing that would far more likely make him a dangerous person.

I know from my own experience as an identical twin, now age 71, that the journey can make a number of twists and turns over the years. My sister and I were very close as young children, and pretty much through high school. Although we had normal periods of competition, it became more apparent [in looking back] as we became young adults. It would become known by the age of 30, my sister would never be able to have children, while I had a son at age 32. From that point on, her underlying jealousy and rage manifested itself and affected our entire family's dynamic. For the past few years, I have gently severed our relationship, for the simple reason it is toxic, and life is too short. When I think about the observations and myths many people have about twins, I try to be honest with them. I always point out an important fact: No matter the situations or the intentions of friends, family, and society in general, we are subconsciously programmed for competition from the moment we are born.

I'm sorry your sister and yourself don't speak anymore. I don't have a twin but I have had many of bad and good times with my brother. I know how simplistic this may sound - but I spent many years grappling with alcoholism before finally going to rehab 8 years ago. One of the things I am most thankful for is the fact that I never got pregnant. I can't imagine what my addiction would have done to children. When I see a tragedy like this, that's what I think of. All in all, another great perspective that goes into an account of terror, manipulation, and innocent people being screwed. Nobody can tell a story like you can - NOBODY.

I’d heard of this case years ago, but not the updated information. I wonder how Sunny and Jeen would have turned out if their father had gotten custody? If he was more stable mentally and economically, he would have been able to provide a better home for them. By the time their aunt and uncle took them in, the damage was done. And I don’t understand why, if they were co-valedictorians, one got a scholarship and one didn’t. Some kids just aren’t mature enough yet to go away to college. Going to a community college and transferring can be a better path for some, for more than just reasons of cost.

What a journey! I've heard this story a number of times, but this is the best with the most up-to-date information. I live in southern California and my wife, who is of Korean descent, has family in K-Town in Los Angeles. I don't recall this being a huge story locally, but it could be I just wasn't paying attention. Thanks for the closing the loop on the potato. It would have bugged me to no end if it was just left hanging out there.

What a sad story so vey well told, thank you. I feel for those boys, their sentences were too harsh. I'm most heartbroken for Sunny, learning her own twin went to such lengths to kill her, involving other people and a gun meant she was serious beyond a doubt, it broke this poor young woman, she's a street worker, an addict and very traumatised💔😭

As an identical twin myself it’s weird to hear and stories of twins being competitive or hate each other. I’m 36 and my twin and I are best friends have been since we were little. We always have each other’s backs. We even work at the same place. We both have children and spend time with others. But would rather hangout with each other. I feel blessed to have an identical twin. Was born with my soul mate. ❤

This one is so fascinating. Anyone else feel like their parents set them up for failure from the very beginning? Goes back to the ole nature vs nurture argument: Had they been given better circumstances, endured less trauma, and spared the rivalry their parents manufactured for them then they easily could have developed into upstanding individuals instead of, well, monsters... At least, that's my opinion. Then again, I've seen a few genuinely wonderful people produce some of the most degenerate, malicious children out there, so who knows. Personally, I go back and forth on this concept all the time. Maybe it's a bit of both and, no matter what, we can only guess at what drives people to behave this way.

Yes. If kids get their emotional development seriously messed up before the age of five or six,well... Anything can happen. The world has always been at the mercy of parenting "skills". Thats why the ship can sink at any time.

They were only separated until they were about three. Frankly, I don't think their separation had anything to do with how they turned out. That's just conjecture on the narrator's part. The subsequent actions and behaviours of their mother (gambling, mental breakdown, etc) would certainly have contributed though

You are an incredible storyteller!! I have heard this case recounted multiple times before but never with the depth of detail you explained here. This is always the channel I come to to hear a story told in a thorough, accurate and, perhaps most importantly, respectful manner. You have a gift for sharing stories in a way that doesn’t glorify the monsters you cover. Thank you!

This reminds me: I have known 2 sets of twins, one set identical and the other set not. The identical ones (females)were my neighbors growing up, a year or two younger than me. They were exactly, exactly the same. I saw them recently at a funeral and they are still exactly, exactly the same, dress, talk like finishing sentences etc and local and family life's exactly, exactly the same. Their bond is stronger than ever and is almost spooky, always was. The not identical twins (males) are as different as day is night. Looks, dress, tastes, families. Never ever could finish thoughts or sentences. And, no bond at all and have been estranged for many years now. They were never really close. Weird. Sorry, just thought I'd share... I was also too lazy to look up the difference of fraternal or paternal as I believe thosr are the words for twins?
