Thanks for this, and have just bought this! Will hopefully be a game changer now!!. Just one thing, when you boosted the frequencies at the end there, from the point of view of the mix, would this be turning up the volume? Or would you gain that back down again? I am also trying to improve my mixing, and dynamic range/luffs louder mixes and so on, so just trying to learn lol! Thanks for the tutorial

Soothe 2 side-chaining can be really transparent.. if use them everywhere from the low mids through the mids, to the highs... Very softly unmasking and giving priority to certain instruments of other instruments... To main vocals over background vocals... You can get this seamless space in the mix to get everything to say it where you want it to sit... Certainly this is not something that's absolutely needed... Or need it on every track..... But by using it often and subtly you can create some interesting life and cohesion and it makes
@ThisIsOnesto

When used correctly, Soothe 2 is a master of transparency. It sounds like you’re a power user, that’s a great way to get everything to play nice with each other.

Apparently the sidechaining in Smoothe2 is more precise than normal sidechain compression and only side chains the frequencies that are being masked as opposed to the whole region/area. That's why, apparently.
@ThisIsOnesto
@ThisIsOnesto Ай бұрын
Thanks for letting me know. It seems like it'll get you a very transparent sidechain, which I'm sure is helpful in many situations. Thanks again for the help!

Thanks for putting together this great tutorial. One question though. Isn’t that just like a regular eq?
@ThisIsOnesto
@ThisIsOnesto 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. And here's the best answer that I can give. Soothe 2 is kind of like an EQ, in that it's cutting out frequencies, like you would with a notch in an EQ. However Soothe 2 is much much more than an EQ. Soothe 2 analyzes and identifies harsh frequencies in a sound and helps "soothe" it by dynamically cutting out those harsh frequencies. So it's constantly making those cuts, in a precise and sound preserving way. It could do a few other tricks, but this is the main purpose and use of Soothe 2. Hope that answer helps! Thanks again for watching!

@HumanBeingWithFeelings 2 жыл бұрын
great vid thanks! liked and subscribed :). So , If I'm not mistaken, the sidechain mode is basically like the izotope neutron EQ masking feature but it does the cuts for you which makes it simpler and quicker. I really need this plugin! :) Cheers!

But isn't that the same approach like notching in dynamic eq? I thought soothe is but a tool to save you some time. 🧐
@ThisIsOnesto
@ThisIsOnesto Жыл бұрын
That's a great question. And here's the best answer that I can give. Soothe 2 is kind of like a dynamic EQ, in that it's cutting out frequencies when a harsh frequency crosses a threshold. However Soothe 2 is much much more than a dynamic EQ. Soothe 2 automatically analyzes and identifies harsh frequencies in a sound and helps "soothe" it by precisely cutting out those harsh frequencies across the entire frequency spectrum. So it's constantly making those cuts, in a precise and sound preserving way. It could do a few other tricks, but this is the main purpose and use of Soothe 2. I know in the video, it seems like the process takes a long time since I'm having to explain and walkthrough everything. But in real scenarios, I'm just placing soothe on a track and maybe adjusting a knob or two. Hope that answer helps! Thanks again for watching!
