Elvis’ closest friend and confidant, Jerry Schilling, joins us on the sofa to share his memories of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Jerry was part of Elvis’ ‘Memphis Mafia’ - made up of the star’s close circle - and he lived in Graceland for a decade with The King. And in celebration of Elvis, Jerry is gearing up to be a special guest at the upcoming Very Best of Elvis In Concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - it’s sure to have you all shook up.

Great interview. Jerry was one of Elvis’s very loyal friend. When he heard about his death, he was driving and they played a song and said “ this is from the late Elvis Presley “& Jerry was so shocked and had an accident in which he went off the road and hit a wall & broke his hand or wrist. Proving not good to drive if somebody’s given you bad news. Poor guy was in the middle of driving when he hears it on the radio. Jerry Schillings book is very interesting. 😊❤❤

@@shanekingston7453 Absolutely….he knew ELVIS from a very young age…even before ELVIS BECAME A PHENOMENAL ❣️❣️❣️🌹 I do believe that LINDA THOMPSON WAS A TRUE FRIEND…. I believe she was real. She was very good to him and tried so very hard to help him. I’m glad he had her for the 4 years they were together ❣️ I believe she really was there for him. Even PRISCILLA AT ONE TIME I BELIEVE SHE REALLY DID LOVE HIM. I do. I also believe that Larry was real and true to ELVIS.

Seen this man plenty of times in various interviews…Elvis was never given the opportunity to tour the world because of Colonial Tom Parker…he was too worried he would loose money..which eventually he did…I first saw Elvis in Blue Hawaii when I was a kid….and every year in Australia we have the Elvis festival in Parkes NSW with impersonators, Cadillac cars, rock n roll bands…everyone gets dressed up…..it is so much fun..people come from all over the world…it’s the best week anyone can spend..❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺

I really appreciated the things Jerry had to say. However, it would’ve been nice if the interviewers slowed down a bit and not ask two questions at a time so that Jerry could only just manage to answer one of them.

A lot of people still believe Elvis was a racist. This is because the creators of all the documentaries made about Elvis deliberately leave out and exclude the relationship Elvis had with the black community. They only document the black influence on his music. Elvis was friends with Muhammad Ali, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Brooke Benton , BB King and many others. He hired black cooks and security and gave them a job for LIFE. He also bought a house for one of his female cooks.

I would have to disagree with that one. Charlie Hodge and Jerry Schilling were the most faithful to him. They both truly loved him. They all loved him but the others betrayed him eventually. Elvis thought that they all loved him as much as he loved them all. He found out differently and it broke his heart. Even though they were not married anymore Elvis was still sharing with Priscilla and PRiscilla knew they betrayed him. She lived through everything that Elvis every did for them. I would have been so disgusted that I would want to kick their teeth in . I completely understand where Jerry is coming from when he speaks . He is speaking about HIS experience. How it was for HIM with Elvis . He was like a brother to Elvis especially early on because he was almost a decade younger to start . This explanation should give some perspective. Jerry Schilling was a true friend.

Elvis was not strong enough to say NO to Parker. Maybe he was insecure thinking that if he would change manager he would lose everything. It was a big error to do mediocre films for so many years. Parker did not see Elvis as an artist , he was interesting only about money and Elvis knew that but he did not make anything to change the things. Such a big star with an enormous talent but unfortunatelly without a strong personality. Sleeping pills and food will not solve our problems. Action, decisions and responsability help more but I do not make any critic because he got famous at early age, his mother died early so it was difficult to manage all those matters. He definitely needed a psycology support.

I think it was mostly that Elvis was raised to obey his parents. And since he made his uneducated Dad his business manager, he listened to him when he shouldn't have. Don't get me wrong. I think Vernon deeply loved his son. BUT he never should have been in that position, and made choices out of fear of going broke again. This is well documented. Marty Lacker spoke of BEGGING Elvis to invest his money so it could work for him versus Elvis working like a dog, so The Colonel could take half. Vernon was too scared. Everyone around him has similar stories.

@@ellenw391He created a life style (cars, women, parties, spending money) that finally trapped him and killed him because he was locked in his own image. People are getting old, times are changing and he was giving his battle to keep this image on top because he had no choice. He once said " I am tired to be Elvis" . That said everything. His father was surely in the wrong position but anyway Elvis did not listen to nobody. The only responsable for this tragic end was Elvis.

@@coollady2179Very true. Those conditions got worse and dogged him his whole life. He felt that if he took prescription drugs, it’d be ok. He had too much trust in Drs. The more he took and became tolerant of, the amount and variety kept increasing. Today with data bases, it would have been picked up. Died so young. 😢💔🌹🌹🎸🎸🕺🏻🕺🏻🎤🎤

Yes. Met him in the spring of 1975 at RCA recording studios in Hollywood. Elvis was recording his album "Today" and Brian was recording in another studio nearby.

Such a lovely man. How he can be friends with Priscilla with all the vitriol she has spat out about Elvis over the years boggles my mind. The rest of the Memphis Mafia have never had anything good to say about Priscilla including members of Elvis's own family. If priscilla presley wouldn't have spoken up for her daughter there would be know graceland. Those people would have auctioned off that house or sold it for money. Agreed...He's just as bad as the rest of the MM guys who continued to make money off of Elvis's name after his death...even to this day, and Gellar too...after Elvis died a few of the guys all tried to say that they were Elvis's best friend...they use the word friend so many times in their interviews it's laughable...Wayne Newton did it too...He always referred to Elvis not by his name but as his "dear friend"... The only one who never made a dime off Elvis's name and could've was his private nurse and she would always mention that when talking about him...

Jerry keep up fantastic fantastic work keeping Elvis memories alive. Begrudgers are always around they are not important.
