I like to think I’m fairly creative but I don’t think I would’ve thought of just moving plants I already had. That’s genius and yet so simple and like she said free minus the work and time!

difference between a "landscaper/ designer" and a gardener, a gardener would have moved the plants when they were dormant, watered the shrubs well the day before they were to be moved ,taken much bigger rootballs when moving,watered the holes first before placing the plants, then added a temporary stake until the plants roots were able to support it. its a toss up if the shrubs will survive that move, but cornus are pretty tough so maybe.

I watched one of these videos where they were doing the rough in plumbing for a basement bathroom. They put in a small s-trap because the bathroom might not always be used. So the water might dry inside the trap. Therefore, you would use an s-trap to prevent gas from the sewage getting in the room. It’s an exception to the rule.

@@TylerRing It would dry out but the gas would get trapped in the top trap. The bottom trap stops gas because it fills with water. The top trap would stop the gas because gas rises. The gas wouldn’t float down the trap. Then into the house.

Should have replaced the glass that is most certainly not tempered with a tempered piece. or even insulated too.

Separating the upper glass section from the lower rails will make the glass frame a bit flexible. That glass will likely experience a stress crack in time.

I would have planted a hedge between the two houses for privacy. A nice tall and thick hedge would be perfect there I was thinking.

I could sure use your guys help at my homd in Eastern KY. I am disabled and unable to get things done around here since I bought my new place. I need Richard for plumbing/hvac, Tom for my ramp that I need and my deck that is in disrepair, my yard needs attention since septic system was put in and soil on leechfield/tank has settled need fill dirt and topsoil to help grass grow, and I need your electrical guy to help install electric to my workshop and to my small garage/shed. I could really use the help. I really do love your show. I can even let Tom see and play my guitar that Vince Gill signed for me, since he mentioned seeing Vince in Nashville. Thanks.

I would think when they moved the bushes they would have used fresh dark soil but they used the existing soil that was already on the ground.

When I bought a old house and remodeled bathroom, existing tub drain was essentially S trap because the drain was so deep under the slab. Didn't think much of it and just replaced section of existing galvanized drain with PVC so I can fit new tub. Big mistake. It gurgles when washing machine drains and there is not much I can do at this point because it is under the concrete slab. :( Luckily, vanity and toilet are properly vented and no issue there and the tub doesn't appear to be siphoning when draining on its own water.

@@Kevin-mp5of It already has a vent. However, this washing machine is 30 ft from the tub and apparently it ties to the tub drain under the slab. Considering the distance and the age of the pipe, I'm sure it get full with water.

Another cause is a stoppage. I just had a tenant for 3 years put flushable wipes and feminine hygiene items down the toilet. Had a 1/2 auger not be able to make it through the blockage. Had to remove a section of the pipe in the finished basement and well you can guess a lot of ___________.

Tommy! PU glue is not meant to be gap filling! In this case it works since it's not actually holding anything, but that foam is not meant to fill voids and still hold. It just means you're using too much (in normal case).

If you have used polyurethane adhesives then you will know the bond is "tighter" than a mermaid's purse ... and I have checked. They come in a wide variety of "mixes" and probaby one of the "go-to" solutions for any job. Far stronger than PVA types. Plus in that application the fact it did the void filling thing by virtue of its foaming made it ideal. Very moisture and weather resistant

That dutch door is a 'no' from me. There wasn't any reason to mess with the deadbolt either and now the door doesn't lock.

dutch door? Why not just install a storm door with window/screen? Open interior door, open window on storm door. Better than Dutch door....

Hi. Thanks for great information. The part that you cut the door in half and installed the wedges, did you set the saw in an angle? If yes, at what degree would be good?

They don't reply to comments, but my guess is that the first cut was in the middle, with a 10-20 degree angle and the second at 90 degrees (giving you two pieces that are square on one side and a nearly matching angle on the other (nearly matching because the kerf will slightly ruin it, but it doesnt matter). I dont think it has to be exact. Also, the combined height of both pieces would be the amount removed from the door, plus the kerf of the blade. Or I guess you could cut the pieces first, carefully lay them down at 90 degrees and mark and cut.

The door would be cut square, no angle. The wedges would have a slight angle cut on one side (not more than a few degrees).

Why dutch door? Why not get a screendoor? That's a lot cheaper. Or simply OPEN EITHER WINDOW?

And I'm sure that cardboard won't compress at all :( Those wedge pieces will only seal that gap until it gets cold. In fact, that entire dutch door install is a mess.

Hammer head: has multiple applications. Can be used as a reaction mass for small brads on "springy" ply say. Hammer is a lot more versatile that people know. Have even seen slate roofers using haft to smack in the nails so as not to damage the slate tiles. The blokes I saw were built like Thor, with forearms like Popeye and hands like non green Hulk ... held the head of hammer in hand and swung it that way. Hickory seemed to soak up the "punishment" alright.

@@Kevin-mp5of Indeed not 😱! UK pattern slater's hammer is similar in size to standard Estwing rock hammer but with reinforcing "wings" holding hammer head to hickory haft. Slaters doing my old Dad's roof had also got local blacksmith to "reforge" point to much narrower diameter. Point then used to punch hole in slate for nail ... no need to drill hole in slate. Basically the same purpose as normal slate hammer but much narrower point less likely to crack slate. (Quality Welsh of Cornish slate not cheap.) So not a mallet but slater's hammer, using hickory haft to smack in nails.

@@Kevin-mp5of 😂 Not quite; point or pick end heated in coals and teased out to longer and narrow point. In years gone by our council road gangs would have their pickaxes sharpened and "re-pointed" as they wore. This was before days of pneumatic road drill type tools. A lot of our ex servicemen got jobs in council services after WW2. I can recall a lot of council road diggers still working in their army blouse jackets in the fifties. (These days the road diggers use "silenced" road drills on tractor units to break the surface and then use a massive vacuum digger to suck the dirt out.)
