I have an Efnote e-kit. I got it over Roland because the sizes of pads and cymbals are bigger. The Efnote cymbals feel and play 99.9% like real metal cymbals and actually sound and ring out, unlike Roland(Roland comes close but not quite there). I also think the Efnote sounds just like miked up drums. Roland used to be considered having better sounds, and they always sounded better than most but not completely accustic sounding. Now DW owns Roland and have not come out with any new Roland e-kits since. DW however did come out with the DWe kit and made it compatible with the Roland TD50 module. With e-kit brands stepping up their game and producing better high-end e-kits I think Efnote with the Efnote Pro e-kits takes the cake as the best stage ready e-kit on the market. I also feel that most who play high-end Roland e-kits use plug-ins for superior sounds and with the great accustic sounds Efnote has an additional computer with a VST is not needed as in my opinion the Efnote sounds so good I only found a few that did not realize my Efnote kit is electronic and not accustic. So for me hands down Efnote all the way, at least until something better comes along.

Great comparison and very useful. I agree with your assessment and found it to be quite helpful. Thank you. My choice would be Roland as well but for me, it is because I am more familiar with the Roland brand and know very little about Efnote as a company.

The sounds glue better because the COMPRESSION. Efnote needs to add compressor to their modules, it helps also to cut through the mix

So what I thought when he said that was. Drumming 101, dynamics control. Which means he would sound out of balance in an acoustic kit too. The Decline is real

In the VAD kit the sounds can be improved quite a bit if you understand anything about sound and mixing. My custom kits are super organic and feel really close to a real kit.

@LDdrums20
@LDdrums20 Жыл бұрын
@@spudvader sure. What I do that worked for me is look for each of the parts base samples that are close to what I'm looking for. Then if it lacks something I look to complement it with a second layer. And then play around with the overhead feature. This is key because it changes the sound quite a bit making sound more fat or thin depending on what ambience you choose. After that detailing with the transient and eq feature.

@@spudvader you can look at this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j6-PmL1zqLe2gKs.html to have a clear idea of what i mean. You just have to be creative with your processing and you can get something passable. Furthermore the new update includes some more sounds that are quite good

@@LDdrums20 Coming from a complete noobs point of view, there is a lot going on but it gives me a place to start. So on the physical side, are you running anything special/doing anything different or is it all just program based stuff? cheers

@LDdrums20 Жыл бұрын
@@spudvader yes. Actually the playability it is almost the same as real drums. You have to hit hard as well. And dynamics can be controlled equally

I dont know if I want to throw myself in the middle of this debate, but. I prefer the Roland sounds over the other. I agree they sound more processed or maybe even synthetic, however, I can't think of the last time I listened to song where the drums actually sounded raw or organic. Music today is so processed, I think thats why Roland takes the approach they do to their sounds.

Great point! I’m debating between these two brand for a kit for the church and one for myself and based on your comment I think I’ll suggest the Roland for the church and I’ll take home the EF for practice because of the natural sounds and lower price tag.

The sounds are meant to work in context of a full band mix. They sound like drums that are mic'd up in a studio, but don’t replicate the sound of a real drum kit in the room with you. But let's be real what's your favorite unmic'd drum tone? Every record ever the sound is made with microphones, I think a lot of people don’t realize what Roland is going for.

At 5:50, the efnote sounded totally shite. Machine gunned like mad. Bottom line, if you need acoustic sounding acoustic kits, you go Efnote. I just bought a used 7 module, so, will see when it gets here, but I dig my TD17 for sure.
@Iamadrummer

Most songs these days don't use real drums, which I think is sad. The Roland sounds are more like fully messed with studio sounds, and the Efnote sounds are of just great miked accustic kits. I have and prefer the Efnote kit for sounds, playability, and the superior cymbals.

If you need all the extra sounds that the Roland modules have, then go with that. But if you really just want a variety of good acoustic kits, definitely Efnote. I've got a Roland TD-8 module at home. My church has a TD-6V. The biggest complaint I have at church is that I can't play their kit like an acoustic one...which is what I want. Roland has some great sounds but their preset kits are too flashy and not really always the sounds I need. I don't want to have to search for a good snare or bass or whatever. I want to just sit down and play. Efnote is what I'm recommending when they upgrade the current kit and module. However, at home, I want to explore sounds, try new things out. For now, the TD-8 is just fine.

Yes the Roland kit sounds more cohesive and polished. I tend to run my acoustic or e kits through a small mixture that has compression and fx for a drum kit. Maybe the Efnote would sound better through the mixture. Besides, the Efnote is less expensive than the Roland.

Man, the ef note sounds nice for the slower stuff, but the moment you speed things up, it sounds terrible. And what's with the false triggering on the ef note during the section from 5:39... Was originally waiting for the ef note pro even though i'm a roland guy through and through for the past 20 years. I hope it was just false triggering.

what nonsense to specify the height, width and depth as a factor. that is not fixed and depends on the size of the person and the privileges of a person. 2. what should make a big difference in terms of volume? both manufacturers use meshheads. a pointless test this video.
