Totally agree. I've always wanted a Strat, and played some cheap versions (not Fender) before. Than once i decided to get a real deal and just stumbled upon the Tele and just loved it. Since than its been my main guitar for any kind of playing and style (well, almost). But you can definitely get away with ONLY tele with a great match of amp and very few pedals.

Always been a fender guy (Strats) and have in the last few years fallen in love with teles. Straight into an amp, mine are a 5e3 (tweed deluxe clone) and a 5W tweed champ, no pedals, everything is basic and the Tele is just a true balls out guitar. I've never felt so conscious about my playing before but with a Tele you kind of hear your shortcomings, not sure if it's just me

A Telecaster for me is the perfect rhythm guitar because it retains a very prominent clarity and rich and bright tone that has less electronic overdriven sound that you receive from high gain pickups. The sound of a Tele is like a acoustic guitar that has a electric pickup. For lead it's very excellent but you will not have the major gain of a humbucler that compromises clarity and tone by extra response and drive.

Great video! I’m always blown away at how many different styles and sounds can be covered by a Tele. I don’t really use anything else in the studio, and I’ve had artists scoff when I show up to a session with nothing else… They always change their opinion after we’re done. You really can get nearly every sound out of them as long as you know how to use them and know how to dial in your tones.

Cool vid, guys! I really dig that aproach, just using one guitar and getting the most versatile sounds out of it. I'd really like to see this with an SG and an Explorer. In my opinion the Exlorer is quite underrated when it comes to versatility. It's so much more than your typical metal axe. Love the clean tones of a vintage Explorer, as well as the ones of an SG, as long as it has the right (PAF style) pickups in it.

Of course, the Tele's bridge pickup is magic and is the main attraction for many. However, the Tele's neck pickup is equally as fine and can do lots of magic as well. Overall, the Tele is magic in every position. It can do it all and better than most. The early blackguards are particularly fine.

The Tele is an incredibly versatile guitar and because it has an ability to get grittier, dirtier rock tones, it goes past the Strat in that area. It's super stable, has great sustain and in my experience, is a heavier guitar. That's probably why it has so much thickness behind the sound. The middle position has the spacious sound going, almost chorus like. There's a stability about the sounds that a strat won't quite get. And I never have to finick around to get the tone. The Tele is also the standard for country. It's almost required in that genre. However...the Strat is fun to play if you like dialing up tones. It covers a lot of territory. If I had to pick up one guitar for a straight hard rock gig or a country gig, the Tele is easily the one. If I'm playing at home, I grab my strats.

I have fitted a 5 way switch to my TE-80 NT Deluxe and with some creative wiring I now have even more tone choices as follows. 5. Neck in series with a 1000pf capacitor LOWFI 4. Neck and bridge HOOP (half out of phase) GREENY LES PAUL. 3. Bridge 2. Neck and bridge parallel 1. Neck 1. neck + cap in series dumps a lot of low frequencies to ground which gives it a kind of distant, almost Lo-Fi kinda sound. Like it's being heard through an old 40's wireless with a 6" speaker. 2. The neck and bridge HOOP is almost like the 'Greeny Les Paul' out of phase sound but not as drastic. Adds a little bit of 'quack' which is really cool. The pickups have been replaced for: Dimarzio FS-1 bridge pickup Iron Gear Vintage 6TS neck pickup Also CTS pots with CDE tone capacitor and 50's wiring.

Love to see a video with NO pedals- just a cable, amp, & guitar. Getting the tone perfect first with the guitar, amp, and touch or tone from the fingers alone. Everyone is hip to the ionic Tele bridge pickup, however, some years ago I discovered that the neck pickup contains an entire universe of sounds that seems to propel the Tele into an entirely different and equally excellent guitar. It's much like the Strat's middle pickup. Like the Tele's sadly abandoned orphan neck pickup, too many players ignore it as a sole option except to use it in conjunction with the bridge or neck pickup in the 2 and 4 in between "out of phase" (by not really) positions. I am fortunate to have had and still have many fine guitars to play as I wish. Even so, I often go to my Tele (it's' a real '52, BTW), and even unplugged, it gets right into my soul. That's as much as anyone can ask of an instrument.

I actually find myself using the neck pickup for a lot of my playing. May be my particular model (Chrissie Hynde model) but with the use of the tone and volume knob, and either a clean boost or compressor, you can get a ton of variation. For leadish and funk/power chords for rock the middle position with tone back towards center either plus or minus a position works great.

Man, my neck pickup sounds so muddy. This is my second Tele. I can't really use it for my kind of playing, which to sum it up on that pickup would be blues rock like Stevie Ray. I have some awesome neck pickup sounds on my strats. I've worked hard to get the right pickups. Do you guys have any recommendations?

For a lot of people that don't play a Tele, they don't like them...until they play one! I was a die hard Les Paul person, and never wanted a Tele. I found a cheap Squier bullet tele, and now I have 4 of them. One is a Tele Deluxe. LOL The best part about the Squier Bullet is it's thin and light. Swap out the tuners, pots, and pickups, and you have a really light Tele that's pretty cool. The Classic Vibe series is a good guitar for the money.
