So sad. Fair play to the jockey who knew something was wrong and got off straight away. The tears from the groom with the owners in the winners enclosure was heart breaking to watch. :(

Yes, it's horrible. I watched both Ruffian and Barbaro. I cried for weeks. But I would not ban horse racing. For me, I relax and know joy on the back of a running horse! My first Derby was Chateaugay. I heard tales of Native Dancer and Man O War as a little girl. Watched Northern Dancer win his Derby. I can no longer ride and don't have the speed to avoid an unhappy equine. So much for my DVM. If I had to give up watching horse racing, I would sit down in a corner and disappear!

This was just tragic - the horse had a bright future in front of him.and I feel so upset for the Cecil family & all the connections. They have been through hell obviously with the loss of Sir Henry. To all the 'horse racing should be banned cranks' - these things happen - 'It's called life'

They weren't born to "graze in fields"...if you knew anything about these horses you would know that they love to run and race and hate being stood still.

Stun rods? Death laps? What are you talking about. I have worked in the thoroughbred industry for many years. I am around horses literally 24 hours a day. You get good and bad people in every industry. Maybe you should turn your computer off, go outside and see for yourself before listening to 'renowned' people's opinions! I know many renowned people in the industry including the owner and trainer of this horse. Both of which have done more for the welfare of horses than you ever will :)

That was terrible how thomas chippendale died and it breaks my heart to see an animal die like that i love horse racing but something has to be done about the amount of horses that fall get injured or killed there should be a serious enquiry on making it more safer how they do it i dont know and i remember the day Thomas Chippendale died 😢😢😢😢😢😭

The horses DO get a choice! If you watch the Ascot race with Mad Moose you'll see what I mean, he didn't want to leave the stalls, so he didn't, a tiny little jockey can't make a tonne of horse to anything it doesn't want to do. Also, regarding your other post, they are not "whipped to death"...they don't DIE from being whipped and most of the time the jockey only shows the horse the whip rather than actually hitting it. I recommend you don't speak about topics you don't understand.

Great horse. Very sad to see however this happens to athletes from time to time. Racing is not a heartless sport. On the contrary. These horses are loved and cared for better than most riding school hacks. Before judging you should go to newmarket or ballydoyle and see for yourself. Most training facilities are like five star horse hotels! Horses love to run. I have seen horses die in the wild from exactly the same problem

Humans have heart attacks during/after racing . This could have happened with the horse running around a field. It is a tragedy and is awful to see but could happen to any human or animal !!! What do you think would happen to all the other horses if they banned racing !!
