Honestly I absolutely loved the older track master trains that could roll on their own, it was so much more fun to have them race down hills and push them along the tracks however I like, miss those lil’ guys, still got a couple of ‘em

the reason why there isn't as much TTTE merchandise as there used to be in stores is that the declining quality of the merchandise meant retailers didn't want to renew their contracts with Mattel. TTTE as we remember didn't fail because the TV Series declined in quality, TTTE as we know it failed because the merchandise declined in quality. You can enjoy the merchandise without watching the TV Series but not the other way around. there's a lot of economics and politics behind it all that I don't need to get into

Give the HiT Entertainment era some credit, they didn't always excel in the writing, but they definitely excelled in the merchandise. Lines like Wooden Railway, Take-Along, and Trackmaster were ones that children and collectors couldn't get enough of even though they were everywhere at the time, and it was because of Thomas' merchandise sales that HiT shelved Barney the Dinosaur in 2009 to focus more on their really useful engine. Nowadays, Mattel seems to be doing the opposite of that; Thomas' merchandise has decreased in both quality and quantity, and Mattel is sending Thomas to the scrapyard while bringing Barney back from extinction.
