There was a crowd of 11,230.
The fight was televised by ABC on Wide World of Sports and on ITV in the UK.
Hearns scored six knockdowns. Andries went down four times in the sixth round, once in the ninth, and once in the tenth.
This was Hearns' third world title. In his next fight, he won the WBC middleweight title and became the first boxer to win world titles in four weight divisions.

Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use
Fair use
Additionally, the fair use defense to copyright infringement was codified for the first time in section 107 of the 1976 Act. Fair use was not a novel proposition in 1976, however, as federal courts had been using a common law form of the doctrine since the 1840s (an English version of fair use appeared much earlier). The Act codified this common law doctrine with little modification. Under section 107, the fair use of a copyrighted work is not copyright infringement, even if such use technically violates section 106. While fair use explicitly applies to use of copyrighted work for criticism, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research purposes, the defense is not limited to these areas. The Act gives four factors to be considered to determine whether a particular use is a fair use: the purpose and character of the use (commercial or educational, transformative or reproductive); the nature of the copyrighted work (fictional or factual, the degree of creativity); the amount and substantiality of the portion of the original work used; and the effect of the use upon the market (or potential market) for the original work.

Your Dad's a Legend Wes, certainly in British boxing terms. So unsung and under appreciated back when he was World champion at this time prior to the Hearns fight, but not by true British boxing fans, who recognised his great achievements somewhat against the odds, always rooted for him after the Blanchard fight. Hope he is well.

Dennis’ story after this fight, him showing up at the Kronk, asking to come under Steward’s tutelage, eventually gaining the respect of his Kronk peers, the last man standing, and his journey to regaining the WBC crown, is surely one of the greatest stories in British boxing history. I ve never understood why Dennis’ story hasn’t been made into a film , surely as compelling as Rocky , and why he was never embraced by the British boxing public. I always tell my kids about 4 great British boxers from when I was a kid, and the lessons for life- Honeyghan (fearlessly taking Curry the invincible apart), Benn (where to start) Johnny Owen (the great Welsh boy legend who went all the way to LA to fight for a world title and never came back) and Andries. For me, the greatest and most inspirational come back story was that of Dennis.

SPIDERM0OSE don’t be such a knob head, I’ve spent a fortune these past twenty five years or so on PPV boxing and Sky Sports and you know what, it’s no better than when it was free to air. Back then the top boxers were household names, nowadays it’s a niche sport and hardly anybody watches it outside of hardcore fans, they essentially killed boxing when PPV became the norm.

I love this era of boxing! It's not the same now. Back then great champs fought for pride , to prove they are the best. No Mayweather picking ur fights. Also back then it was more entertaining as fighters would engage the other fighter. Hagler vs Hearns will always be my favorite, 2 champs just going toe to toe , putting it all on the line. No running, no pitter patter punches at the end of the round to try to steal rounds. If we had this kind of fights MMA wouldn't have overtaken boxing!
