I think T. Sowell is the intellectual that proved no one has to remain a statistic, Humble origins to the throne of modern thought. I will forever be inspired.

Only Dr. Thomas Sowell can make 60 minutes of listening feel like a flash in time. - My hope is that more people, young and old, get to know the work of this brilliant man.

I am happy to have all three books. I've just started with Race and Culture and my word, I have learnt so much more in the first 2 chapters than my lifetime in school. One thing that was mentioned was the profound effect of geography; "it's brutally oblivious to 'equality'." I highly recommend his books. They are a bit repetitive but thats because you cannot get away from the one simple truth no matter what the other issue is.

this is a combination of 2 presentation Thomas Sowell did. One on the book "Conquests and cultures" in 1998 and one on "Race and Diversity" in 1990. The man is consistent enough that you wouldn't know at a first listen

I think that what makes Thomas Sowell so unique is that he asks very relevant questions that most people don’t think to ask. He then seeks answers to these questions in evidence. This, therefore, allows him to elucidate the questions that people do think to ask.

Great works are typically appreciated when the author is gone. He is 90... I wish he would live to 180... But life does not work that way. I appreciate your comment. Host insight night in a local poor community near you.

I have bought these three books after listening to a few clips here on KZfaq and also finding that Pinker refers to Sowell in his book The Blank Slate. Here in Sweden we are brought up with social science as the foundation, in everything from criminal justice system to parenting to taxation. We are not a socialistic society today, but very progressive (in a libtard way). Even right wing newspapers have sections with clear “blank slate content”. Swedish media is left leaning and would very rarely (if ever) bring forward thoughts of a scientist like Sowell, unfortunately.

This man is a legend to the black community. I am so surprised I am just getting to know him.
@tauvid9798
@tauvid9798 3 жыл бұрын
Because of thug and victim culture that sneaked it's way into the black community and not only black it tries to find its ways in all cultures and tries to destroy what is good and righteous, in Germany we call this Zeitgeist, it gets really absurd, my thought on the actual Zeitgeist is that the younger generations try to reinvent the wheel and want to abolish the "old" system you can observe this in your own family like when your father is teaching you how things work and you just dont want to accept it and try your own way, in many instances you end up doing things just as your father did, which is a good thing, but the old way is framed nowadays as a bad thing because scumbags can't sell their "new" ideas within a established system, so you have to stir up the society and present the "resolution", or as king Salomon said, there is nothing new under the sun, read the book of wisdom it helps a lot to undestand life And if you want to undestand the downfall of generations, observe the book of judges and what it teaches you

"Those who use the term cultural diversity to promote a multiplicity of segregated ethnic enclaves are doing an enormous harm to the people in those enclaves however they live socially. The people in those enclaves are going to have to compete economically with others for a livelihood. Even if they were not disadvantaged before they would be very disadvantaged if they're competitors from the general population are free to tap the knowledge the skills the analytical techniques which Western civilisation has drawn from all the other civilisations of the world while those in the enclaves are restricted to what exists and the subculture immediately around them we need also to recognise that many great thinkers of the past whether in medicine or philosophy science or economics laboured not simply to advance whatever particular group they happen to come from but to advance the human race their legacies whether cures for deadly diseases or dramatic increases in crop yields to fight the scourge of hunger belong to all people and all people need to claim that legacy not seal themselves off in a dead end of tribalism or an emotional orgy of cultural vanity" 60:25

I wish he had spoken longer about the impact, which Indian numbers made on European cultures. Why didn't these numbers bring the same fruits in India or in the Arab world? It is often said, that European culture owes its development ancient Greek literature. The Arabs did have bothe, ancient Greek Literature and Indian numerals. But the numbers and the Greek wisdom had very little impact on Arabian culture. On the contrary, all the occupied countries were Arabicized and these old cultural strongholds of antiquity lost their old knowledge. Why could it bring fruit in the north but not in it's home lands?
@moustafaharfoush795
@moustafaharfoush795 3 жыл бұрын
Because Arabs were not in it to learn. They were tribes extending their territory, in it to spread their religion and more importantly collect from the unfaithful. It was a business venture, they didn’t need to learn the methods of those lands, they owned them! And collected the fruits of that ancient knowledge without bothering to have that knowledge. It worked and made sense for them for centuries. Then when those fruits faded over time, the “Arabicized” lands became lands of poverty and conflict. Like Dr. Sowell said, there was no investment in the human capital, they needn’t make any, then it was too late.

Don’t know about India but the Arab world adopted Muslim fundamentalism and drove out original thought and creativity. As the west adopted individual freedom and increasing freedom for women, including education, the Islamic world retreated into one book and rights only for men. In fact, but for oil and terrorism, the Arab world would have no impact on the rest of the world today.

I think there were/are 3 fundamental reasons the arab world didn't flourish with passing time: 1) islam 2) islam 3) islam
