Why am I only hearing about this man now?? He’s 90!! He should be a role model for all young black men, all men for that matter. True intellect! Can you imagine he lived through the 1960s civil rights movement! Crazy

When I was much younger I wanted to learn about racial issues and disparities between blacks and whites just to educate myself and be a better human being. I found Thomas Sowell and Walter William's and I never turned back!!! In my 40's now and with everything going on in the world as of now I'm just like you need some Thomas Sowell in your dome lol...such an unbelievable brilliant mind and I'm a such a better man and human being for it because of the knowledge Thomas Sowell presented to me ✌

8:00, Sowell mentioned my tribe.. Amazing this interview was just less than 20 years after a bloody Civil War claimed millions of lives after a targeted pogrom that killed the thousands he mentioned. As part of the reconciliation program, all igbo men received 20 pounds, forfeited their properties and money, yet in less than 20 years became arguably the richest tribe again in post civil war Nigeria. I tried to explain this to an African American who was gloating over the so-called Repatriation promised by Democrats and I was shut down. Most times you have to change cultural choices if you want the results.

Sowell is the man! I find it funny that many public individuals like Jordan Peterson, Pinker, Haidt, and similar figures, are lauded for being brave and insightful for making powerful points about disparities, race, and inequality, and here we have Sowell, who said the same things decades ago! America would be much better off if his books were in the public school curriculum.

At 13:08 Sowell concedes that the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s as something largely good that was achieved through politics, while maintaining that most of the time, avoidance of politics and instead working hard and saving money is what has been the primary factor for success. But many of the corrections that the Civil Rights Movement sought were reversals of rules, laws and discriminations that were *brought on by the use of politics in the first place.* So it's important to recognize that politics almost never solves problems brought on by free choice and markets; but when it *does* appear to solve problems, it is almost always "solving" problems that were created by politics in the first place.

What is extraordinary about Dr. Thomas Sowell is he uses evidence to formulate is opinions, not emotion or tradition which has become the hallmark of most black political thought. The disparity between racial groups is "because the incentives created by affirmative action and similar types of programs had made it too dangerous to take a chance." For those who want affirmative action today this has already been the tested outcome. Btw, what many black people don't know is when blacks were shut out of certain industries and whites wouldn't hire them it was Jews who would train and mentor some blacks to acquire the necessary training and/or experience in order to get the job or take the test to get the job.

Dr. Sowell had the issues of black advancement nailed almost 35 years ago. No matter how many blacks have political power, it will have very little ability to advance the economic futures of the mass of black, although it will massively advance the welfare of blacks that are in power. As an example, the Detroit public schools are run almost exclusively by blacks and the teachers are almost exclusively black, yet it's only those two groups that economically advanced. Teachers and administrators are paid some of the highest salaries in the nation while the schools are failing and falling further behind each year. Only about 40% of blacks graduate high school, and about 50% of the black population is functionally illiterate. Those are the structural problems that need to be solved, not the constant drumbeat that racism is to blame for everything. Unless black school administrators and teachers are racist against other black, there have to be other answers.

Sowell is a remarkable fellow. He was born into North Carolina Black poverty in 1930 and so turns 90 this year. His family moved to New York City around 1940. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Army, rising to the rank of seargent and seeing action during the Korean War. He then attended Harvard and majored in economics. He later claimed that he was a Marxist during his Harvard years. At Harvard, he had a very bad economics lecturer, who made a lot more sense during his office hours. This lecturer advised Sowell to do his PhD at the University of Chicago. He put that advice into effect, finishing his PhD in 1968; George Stigler was his supervisor. A big hobby of Stigler's was the history of economic thought, and Sowell is his most distinguished student in that area. Sowell taught at UCLA for some years; my mentor Roger Kormendi took his hard course in the history of economic thought. For the past 45 years or so, Sowell has been at the Hoover Institution on Stanford's campus. He has written many books (I own a few of them), and is perhaps THE authority on the common sense economics of racial divisions. Sowell is probably the founder of respectable African American conservative social science. Walter Williams was one of his UCLA students. Shelby Steele surely has read Sowell. The right wing black KZfaqr Candace Owens acknowledges Sowell, Williams and Steele as important influences. Sowell may have influenced Glenn Loury. KZfaq reveals that there are pro-Trump blacks. In my Chicago days and elsewhere, I have met very traditionalist blacks, who are full of disdain for the high rates of crime, drug use, single motherhood and carefree sex among African Americans.

God blessed this man with a mind that can think, and see life for what it really is.

Even if it takes an adult to explain to young children what he is saying, children would question the education system’s common narrative that people are suppressed because of the colour of their skin. When he mentioned Irish are more suitable to work for people rather than doing business. That is so precise. Ireland GDP per capita skyrocketed like crazy during the 90s thanks to the EU bringing in large amount of Foreign Direct Investments. It shows that prior to the EU with not many FDI's coming in and they have to rely on the locals. They were doing fine, but they wasnt as wealthy as other advanced nation. But when new jobs from foreign companies came into the country. They excel like crazy.
