Personally, I like galaxy Rosalina’s voice the best. She’s designed to be this calm and spiritual space princess and her voice in that game fits perfectly. It just doesn’t feel right that Rosalina has a more energetic personality in newer games when she was never designed to be that way so her newer voices just don’t fit her imo. No hate towards those voice actresses but I prefer the old one

I would personally say that I like the Mario Galaxy voice the most… it just fits Rosalina’s character the best, and it has the most noticeable echo effect to it which just makes it all the more impactful

my headcanon? as she spent more time in the mushroom kingdom and visited earth more often than she used to, Peach and Daisy's bubbly personalities rubbed off on Rosalina, thus breaking her out of her shell more and making her voice more peppy :)

Unrelated about Laura Faye Smith but she has wonderful penmanship; when I met her at a convention and asked her to sign my Rosalina amiibo, she was able to sign her name in very clear cursive on that tiny amiibo base and even drew a little Luma. Also she's a very nice and plesant lady.

I kind of like how Rosalina's voice gets slightly more excitable and cheerful with each actress. She started out as quiet, echoey, and a bit sad, but as this Cosmic Queen participated in more Mario Spin-offs and games as a whole, she got more happy to revist these games over the years with her newfound friends. I get why some prefer her voice in Galaxy, but if you ask me, the actress changing gave Rosalina some surprisingly impressive character development.

*FUN FACT:* Unlike Mercedes Rose and Kerri Kane's Rosalina voices, Laura Faye Smith's Rosalina voice doesn't have an echo effect.

I will always have a soft spot for Rose's voice clips for Mario Kart Wii. It has a tone of "introvert coming out of her shell and having some fun!"

I like how Rosalina starts off as sad, lonely (not completely, she has the lumas), in space. Then she befriends Mario and his friends, and after hanging out with them for so long, she seems more happy now. Maybe this is intentional, or nintendo just wanted more upbeat characters. I have such a massive soft spot for Mario galaxy, Rosalina has a very good warm, motherly, soothing feeling. I spent so much time just hanging out at the observatory as a kid.

The thing with Kerri Kane, she still had that gentle soft voice like Mercedes. More towards upbeat but still had that Rosalina charm. The new actress, it’s not the same sadly but I do like seeing Rosalina much happier.

I liked the original voice as it had a unique somber contrast to other upbeat characters in the Mario universe.

I kinda like the first one because it's a very distinctive voice. We had Peach as the happy, cheerful, carefree princess; Daisy as the strong, no nonsense, energetic princess and Rosalina as the motherly, calm and otherworldly princess. The newer one, while it stills retains some semblance of her maturity, steps a bit into Peach's territory with the bounciness and excitement. It makes me feel nostalgic of the original, warm, maternal voice.

Tbh I think each voice fits her for every setting and they sound pretty similar in tone even if the intonation is different, the thing I really miss is the echo that makes her sound like a giant space Princess.

I have few things to say: 1. Even back in Mario Kart Wii, her voice actress Mercedes Rose was credited as "Mercedez Rose". Honestly it feelt like a curse that her voice actress' name was either misspelled or a completely wrong one AND misspelled. 😂 2. I believe the reason Kerri Kane's voice clips are used in Smash to this day is because Rosalina in that game is still based on her more calm and mature appearance from Super Mario Galaxy and during the 3DS era Rosalina was still portrayed in such manner until Wii U era arrived and she became more upbeat and playful. Btw Kerri Kane also voiced Rosalina in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX and we got to hear few lines that weren't ever used before! 3. Rosalina used to be my all-time favorite Mario character until Laura Faye Smith came along voicing the character. This is no hate towards her: she's a wonderful person and a great voice actress, but during 3D World, to me, Rosalina became a shadow of her formerself. I personally don't like her new upbeat personality though I do understand Nintendo wants to go this way since she's a character in a video game series mostly marketed towards children and families and the characters need to be more upbeat and colorful in order to appeal to most of those audiences. Also one thing to note is since LFS started voicing Rosalina, the echo effect from her voice has disappeared. Ps. I'm so happy you finally made this video! I knew the interesting story behind her voice and the women behind it, but finally someone talking about it on youtube is great. So my favorite Rosalina voice actress is Mercedes Rose as I've followed her career a little (she has starred in few commercials and in a youtube series by her daughter, Paige McKenzie called "Haunting of Sunshine Girl") and it is very interesting, but I love Rosalina's voice by Kerri Kane ❤

I didn't even know her voice changed. Must be a bit of the pitch changing. Although different voices for Rosalina is interesting and can be a bit odd and must be each tried to do the same voice to different results. That mixing up names for the credits does seem weird but also a bit funny

The first, mature and mysterious iteration of Rosalina is my favourite because it made her so different from the other princesses and even all the other mario characters. So, Mercedes Rose is my favourite voice for her. But all the voice actors fit their iterations of Rosalina so perfectly, I think everybody did fantastic in their roles and I don't think anyone was "better" than anyone else.

I was surprised to see Rosalina's character change when she was joining the Mario party's and Kart games. But in my personal preference, I gravel more towards the motherly side of her voice. From where she was first introduced, I felt safe being with her and the lumas. Tho the Lumas being silly, I felt like the change in character was due to them making her happy too. I don't mind her cheerful voices in the newer games because its understandable that Rosalina would enjoy being part of something so wondrous. But I can't let that feeling go, she is a caring motherly character from the heart and I do miss that side of her.

Her galaxy voice is my most fav. I've always chopped it up to Rosalina having a more energetic tone later is due to her being with friends and not so lonely in space. I mean she had her Lumas but as far as human companions it seems having friends has made Rose happier. ❤

I was going to say it’s crazy she’s changed her voice in such a small amount of her time since she’s still pretty new compared to the veteran characters, but considering even they’ve changed so drastically in their early development as well and on, I guess it’s not too surprising.

I love how all her voice actors reflect on her character development. She’s slowly coming out of her shell and meeting new people, Being introduced to new things, And genuinely becoming more happier. It may not be the most obvious character development but it’s enough to really appreciate her character over the years.

I love Rosalina's galaxy voice, it's so calm and suits the character so much more. Honestly I think Nintendo overdoes the perky female voices WAY too much. Variety is the spice of life and it upsets me when they keep recasting sultry, warm tones for grating or higher pitched ones

I like all of the voices. I think you would have to be a fool to consider one of these voices to be "bad". However, it's the direction of the voice where my opinions start to vary. I think a part of Rosalina's appeal was her tragic backstory in Galaxy and her voice reflected that. When more modern games came out with the new direction of the voice, it was like that core part of her was gone. However, in the end, I don't think it matters all that much.

While I may not like the voice change in MK8 for the higher pitch, some others really enjoy it, and think it shows possible character development. For a surprising number of people, the third actress is representative of Rosalina for them-- and it's kind of a fun discussion if you ask me

I do like the original Mercedes Rose the most, simply because it's fits the original concept of her character. But I can appreciate the work for the other 2 as well. Plus, if you use the description Thomas gave in the end, you can call it... CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!! When we first meet her, she's still burdened by her past, and the whole Bowser thing just makes it worse. But after Galaxy 1 and 2, she goes off with Mario and friends to play different party games. It's then when we see her begin to cheer up, and become hopeful that there are better times to look forward too. And then, she finally gives way knowing that there are friends that not only care for her, but can have lots if fun with. Giving her thaf energetic and bouncy voice.

Rosalina smiles and sounds full of hope, despite her character story and what she does as a result of it. Makes her very memorable despite being a novelty character.

I still only consider the first voice to matter as that's the only time Rosalina's prominently mattered and wasn't just appearing to fill up a roster spot in a party game.

I love all of her actresses. I see her change in voice as character development where she starts to come out of her shell more after Mario saved her and the Lumas

My personal headcanon is that in each game she gets more energetic and is more open in her personality as apposed to just swapping VA's. It honestly makes the most sense for me as she was more open with Mario in her first game and ever sense then she embraced who she truly is.

Funny this video came to my feed. I was very into the Rosalina voice debate many years ago. Of course Mercedes is the top pick as she is not only the original but also is the most distinc voice that gives Rosalina that personality that sets her apart the most from the other Mario girls, although to me Kerri will always be the best for providing both the extra energy and also still having that certain allure in her voice, it made Rosalina sound more approachable but not too much. A lot of the digging towards the end are things i actually asked Kerri myself, she was kind enough to provide details to clear up the confusion in 2014 when Nintendo used her voice instead of Laura's, many didnt believe it but it was very obvious it was her voice, so i asked her and she kindly responded with the obvious answer, it was her, and as far as i know she also contacted Nintendo in order to clear the voice credit misunderstanding and thats why Laura gets her name properly in games now. You will notice in the 3DS version of RIO olympics it says ''Kerry Kane'' but in the Wii U version is corrected to Laura Faye Smith ... this is thanks to Kerri.

I remember playing the original Super Mario Galaxy as a little kid with my mom in 2015 and Rosalina was my favorite character ever. But I’m barely noticing now that 2015 was nine years ago 😭 and the game itself was released 2007, 17 YEARS AGO 🫣

Personally, I think the deeper, more reserved voiceovers are the best. The newer Madio games feel like they kind of painted over what made Rosalina as a character so special. (This isn't to say I have anything against the voice actors! These things just happen, and that's okay) I have nothing against Peach, she's one of my favorites in fact-- but Rosalina just isn't her. Rosalina isn't just blue Peach, or cooler Peach, or whatever some fans think of her as. For Mario standards, she was a very complex and even tragic character, and it's her quiet sweetness through all the difficulties that made her feel unique. She didn't always express emotions the same way, but they were always there. She was like a force of nature that was kind to you, but one you couldn't just contain, if that makes sense. It always added extra weight to the end of Galaxy. (This isn't very related, but I like to think the reason she shows up in so many sports spinoffs is because she's so ancient, she considers nearly every other Mario character to just be another child, and tries to look out for the main characters when she can. She also thinks they're very fun to play with. I dunno, just a cute thought.)

I'd argue that Galaxy's Rosalina is stoic, poised, and mature rather than solemn, lonely, and emotionless. I prefer this over her other voices because it made Rosalina stand out among all other princesses in the franchise - and I would argue princesses in modern media in general - which tend to be peppy and energetic. She offered players a new kind of character to resonate with (me for example), but that priceless character of hers was lost by her new voices and demeanor, along with many fans' connections with Rosalina. Her Galaxy voice and demeanor will always be the best and truest; I think Kerri Kane's voice stayed pretty true to Mercedes Rose's voice, but I am not a fan of Rosalina with Laura Faye Smith's voice. It simply is not Rosalina. I understand that she may have "warmed up" by being with Mario and friends, but I would argue she has always been warm. Her mannerisms convey that she knows who she is and accepts herself as she is; there is no reason for her to act differently and change how she expresses her joy in order to be more "likeable" for fans.

My personal list is Mercedes, Laura, then Kerri. None have been bad tho! Mercedes captured her powerful, solemn nature. She sounds reserved, but was still capable of showing excitement at her own way. And I LOVE the echo/reverb in with her voice. Laura does sound a little similar to Peach, but I think she has a solid voice/range. I do wish they would tone her back a little, but I think she sounds like a mom having fun 😂❤ Kerri kinda got the worst of both ends. The higher pitch to her voice and super echo effect makes her sound ditzy to me. Like she isn’t QUITE sure where she is 😭💀 I appreciate all the effort the actresses put into the characters.
