The deer rut is on in Tennessee, and I am in the midst of some whitetail interaction when I harvest a nice buck with my T/C Hawken 50 caliber rifle, using genuine black powder. With lots of deer action in the fall woods, I was fortunate enough to get some good footage, so sit back, relax and enjoy.

I only shoot deer with TC maxi balls, but for my 54 they are 370 grains. I cast them myself and have enough for my son to grow old using lol. Was a very good video sir. Thank you

Great video!! I’m just new to muzzling loading. I’ve only hunted with it once during spike and doe season, and I got a spike-he didn’t go but maybe 10 ft. But I heard you say, “I ran a couple of wet patches and some dry ones.” I was told NEVER to run a wet patch while hurting because your powdered my get wet after charging me rifle. You OBVIOUSLY have forgotten more than I know about muzzleloaders. I just had a ball not fire at the range and I had to buy a tool that screws onto the ramrod and the screws into the lead ball and you gently pull it out. It was only a few days before the hunt, but I got it out. I removed the barrel from the stock. The used boiling soapy water and the boiling clean water to get all the moisture out and it fired at the lease. How are you so comfortable and fearless of what happened to me. I had to call muzzle loadings companies to help me find out how to get that stuck ball unstuck.

There are several solutions to that problem. Another one I can think of is unscrewing the nipple and pouring some fine powder down the flash channel. Then screw the nipple back on and fire the gun in a safe direction. This has worked for me on a few occasions in the past.

Nice shot 🙂. Shooting from a tree stand is not the normal here in New Zealand! We tend to lay up or stalk our game. Been muzzle loading for 50 years or so, but only hunting for three. We are free to shoot as many or few as we like, but I hunt for freezer meat. So far a Fallow Buck plus a doe and two Wallabies (small kangaroo). My favourate is my 50Cal H&A underhammer and I have an USA made 54Cal English sporting rifle I bought from The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium, THANX Sue. Happy hunting 🙂

Great video and use of your Hawken. You were having a lot of action there. I have been using my inline for a number of years, but am dead set on harvesting a deer this year with a custom made .54 that my father had made 40 years ago. It has only been fired one time by the gun smith who made it. I wish Hornady still produced those .54 conicals, they just make the .50 now. I already spend a great deal of time reloading for my cartridge firearms, I don't need to get into casting bullets as well. Was able to pick up some from Parker Productions (have used his bullets for my inline) and then from another site (No Excuses bullets I think). Anyway, congrats on a nice buck taken with a traditional firearm and good luck next season.

Last week my new barrel came in! A 32", 1:66 twist rifling for round ball. Going to the range tomorrow (3/19/21) to see how it shoots. Enjoyed the video.
