I too have an old Thompson Chain Reference Vibe that is absolutely falling apart. I got it when I 1st started teaching at the Women's prison almost 20 years ago. It was my everyday take everywhere bible. Now I'm excited to see what God is going to show me and what lessons He will have me teach from this new, revised edition.

I love the updated look. I have no need for circa 1950 Sunday school looking charts and diagrams. I love that they moved the book info to the front of each book.

The vintage-looking diagrams are one of my very favorite things about the original TCR. I love the old-school vibe. A few of them, I'd even like to frame and display as artwork. I agree that the new modernized diagrams don't have any personality. But the markings for the end of the chain is a nice feature. I also wish my Kirkbride red letters were darker instead of pinkish. And putting the book info at the beginning of each book is a great idea too. Guess I'll just have to have one of each!

I never had the older one even though I’m 67 years old. It always looked too cluttered. The new style looked great to me so I finally got a NKJV when it became available.

I believe the comparison would be much closer and fair, had you compared one that zondervan publishes using 8.3 font size. The difference in readability which was noted very often might not have been so different. The content and textual differences would have been the same. Thanks though for your thoughts on this updated and different version of a wonderful study tool.

Hi, Pastor Aaron. I have the chance to buy the Church Bible Publishers TCR they produce from the Kirkbride edition. They have limited quantities and will no longer be able to produce those anymore when they run out, since the TCR is now patented to Zondervan. Would you recommend snatching one while I still can, or would you say this new Zondervan edition is a better permanent upgrade? Oh, and I forgot to mention that one Amazon reviewer claims the Alpha list of topic numbers does not match well with the entries on this Zondervan edition. I have no idea if that's true. Have you come across this in your Bible?

Pros Nicer paper, the Red highlights around the subject’s etc are nice, completing incomplete chains is nice if a theology twist isn’t evident. Also the larger font which makes it bolder print Cons Too big now Not red letter is a deal breaker Lost alot of character and the modern look is just sad, they could have just improved the quality of the existing notes and diagrams Just me but better they just kept what was there no need to change just make quality better It’s a toss up

If you had to pick between this and the large print westminster as the "one" which one would it be?

I would like to ask for a detailed explanation of how and wha to use the Thompson Chain Reference Bible. This Bible is also available here in Germany, but it is used very little What advantage does the TCR Bible with its chain system have over other parts of the Bible? Or what makes the Thompson chains so big more treasure to use? And why is reading through the chains so much insightful or better than e.g. parallel passages? Does one have to work with the TCR chain system for a while to experience the benefit of a deeper understanding of the Bible? Or simply asked why should I use a TCR Bible? I've now made my way through 3 chains, but it hasn't really made a click for me yet. I ask for a deeper explanation. Here in Germany nobody could really answer that for me.

Are all these upgrades present in all the new Thomason’s or just in the expensive editions

The layout and the font are the only things good about it. The rest of it... Frank C. Thompson spent the better part of his life updating and revising his Bible, and to have a company such as Zondervan removing much of what he put in is astonishing as well as arrogant. Do you honestly think a bunch of editors are better at crafting a Thompson Chain than Thompson himself? A lot of what was removed was instructional as well as inspirational. The maps were sanitized. The Bible itself was a cut and paste switch for what was a standard Bible in the comfort print, which meant that Thompson's summaries for each chapter were removed as well. And doing so caused mistakes to be made in the chain system itself. No, I'm not going to recommend this Bible to anyone, at least until they decide to make corrections, and issue an apology to Thompson.

Wow! such a shame. My favorite all time bible. The new TCR bibles look nice and cleaner..but it so watered down from Kirkbride. Less information and you pay more for the new ones! It just goes to show how business is like today. Go figure.

How much does a rebind cost?

They messed it up, when they "updated and revised" it . Should have left it alone with the traditional look from the Kirkbrides. Nice covers though.
