Say Eah Thor, again you answered alot of my questions and fears about my Unna Aksu Hunter Axe. I too figured out that I can use it as a knife. It's actually tiny and very lite to use as a Hatchet. But it dies work on the smaller stuff with no problems, infact I use it on last weekends trip with the guys where we hang out on weekends. I brought my Karasuando Unna Aksu Axe with my Spyderco Puukku, my Leatherman Charge TTi and my Bacho Laplander. Just to see how they would work out on my Afternoon Delight's. Oh, I also brought my Rangergrip 78, but my S. A. K. Farmer would of been good because it's lighter. i found out if I incorporate my Sypyderco Puukku I will also add my Flexcut Carving Jack and use the Puukku as my sloyd knife otherwise the Unna Aksu Hunter Axe will be my knife also. In colder weather, I would bring my heavier tools including larger knife, Hatchet and Saw, but my Unna Aksu Hunter Axe would be my camp knife, but when leave for a scout, I would take a larger knife, my Hatchet like my Hultafors Bruks 17" Agdor Hatchet in my Axe Holster or along the side of my backpack which most of mine have and my Wicked Tough Saw that I would carry on person, in camp ofcource I like my Agawa Canyon Boreal 21 Saw. One of my Fav's Camp Knives (6") is my modified Rodent 6 which looks like my Ratmandu but on steriods..but on wet and snowy conditions my A-1 and H-1 come along as a side by side carry because how the sheaths fit. Again you did good. Infact your becoming one of my Fav's Channels. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

I replaced a similar Hatchet, or small axe as you would say with the Condor Dundee Bowie. I prefer large knives also but I could not find one that meant my needs until I found the Dundee Bowie. When you use one you will understand. Excellent review beautiful axe.

Hey, I just bought this axe and it came with a letter saying it is NOT supposed to chop or split wood. Does anyone have any information, if I can use it for those things or is is more of a “kitchen and crafting tool” (that’s what it says on the letter). Thank you in advance!

Wished these companies would make sheaths like that for tomahawks too,rmj makes awesome kydex ones for theirs.

Such a beautiful tool! It looks like a work of art, but at that price I would never take it out into the woods out of fear of losing it or ruining the finish. I own a Gränsfors Mini, about the same size/weight, and also very expensive at half the prize of the Unna. When I go on hiking overnighters (not in winter) I bring my Mini, a neck knife (e.g. Helle Mandras), and a folding saw.

Your review is outstanding and also the axe is. But the price is absurd: in Italy, where I live, it costs Euro 170,00. All in all it's just a piece of steel hammer forged with a handle of wood and the total cost of the raw material is under Euros 10,00. I have a Rinaldi, made in Italy, small axe very similar at the cost of about Euro 35,00 and it performs wonderfully. How can justify such enormous difference?
@dylanseb10904 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for this review! I was looking for a Christmas gift and came across this axe, but was unsure if it's actually useful byside the beautiful design, especially since I myself have no knowledge about axes. So this video was very helpful for me!

It is a great hatche, though like i said more substitude for knife than axe. But a GREAT gift
@dylanseb10903 жыл бұрын
@Soldagg Ok Karen. I bought this because it's very handy, good quality and beautiful looking. Not because I care what the manufacturers did 2500 years ago...
@dylanseb10903 жыл бұрын
@Soldagg People these days...I can only shake my head. It's non of your business what preferences other people have. The conflict you have with these people is a conflict between you and them. I hate to get involved or being forced to get involved in something that isn't my business. I get it by now, you don't have to buy it, you don't like the people who made it. I get it. So? You don't have to. Problem solved. I personally would never tell anybody from a different country what to buy and what not to just because I am in conflict with a certain group of people within my country. Also, I wrote this comment and bought this product more than a year ago so it isn't even relevant to me anymore... We're still very happy with this product and I don't regret buying it. I'm not one of these people who care much about what country or culture a product comes from, just as long as it is what I was looking for. So why don't you talk to your own family and friends about it, instead of complete strangers and foreigners on the internet whose life decisions are not in your hands? :)
@dylanseb10903 жыл бұрын
@Soldagg I think comparing that is extremely and utterly ignorant. I'm not willing to discuss this topic any further with you from here on. Have a nice day and please, try to learn decency.

i have this small axe it was a gift from my wife mine came with the box and deer skin but without the fire steel it came with a round axe sharpening puck in a deer leather pouch it was sharp enough to shave with and so beautiful i was not sure if i would put it to use even though it is extremeley capable both as a knife and an axe my axe has a lighter coloured wooden handle with the bone inserts this beautiful small axe along with a knife i have also made by karesuando are two of my my most treasured possessions

Hi there the Handel is made from curly butch not Raindeer. The button at the base is Raindeer antler and the little round logo is moose bone. Great little hatchet needs a little refinement on the blade.
@magnuskarlsson29245 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately Thor has no clue about anything. He doesn't even understand how to use a firesteel and he obviously cannot distinguish wood from bone. The only thing he should be testing is toilet paper :D

Like the F1 the mora is great for the price but I’ve used a few bear grylls knives and the steel is way to soft for any hard work but it does sharpen in minutes unless u gouge the blade but even with a gouge it can be sharpened in 1/2 hr to an hr on a stone but on the Ken onion it would take 5 minutes.
@Thoristesting5 жыл бұрын
I agree the BG is like the Condore that way, but it gets you a good reason to pratice your sharpening skills LOL
@Mitsokid16 жыл бұрын
One thing to note, I purchased one at a local outdoor outfitter and a note inside the box States: do not use on wood, this is a skinning and game processing only. It also states it works great in the kitchen and for small kindling work. Razor sharp, good craftsmanship, very lightweight. Not a fan of the resin at the top of the axe, I would like to see how it’s attached. Overall a wonderful hatchet/axe. Exactly what I was looking for
@Thoristesting6 жыл бұрын
Hi there Richard, I am shocked to hear about the note in your box, this was not in mine I can assurer you, Ill ask the propel at Karesuando what this is about, were about in the World are you at?
@Mitsokid16 жыл бұрын
I am located in Boone, North Carolina, USA. We have a great selection of outfitters that carry Scandinavian and Swedish cutlery locally. I purchased this axe to keep with me when I fly. I am a pilot and I primarily fly in remote mountain locations at night and it is very compact and surprisingly lightweight. Exactly what I needed should an emergency ever develop.
@Mitsokid16 жыл бұрын
I cannot seem to post a picture here while on my phone but I just pulled out the box and the note states, and I quote: “The ax Unna Aksu is primarily meant to be used in hunting situations, or as a tool in the kitchen. It is also excellent for carving in soft wood and making kindling from small pieces of wood for the fire. The Unna Aksu is not designed to split or cut wood with.”

Hi Richard, you job sound very interesting, must be very cool. I have already writte my freind at Karesuando to hear him about it, Ill be back :)
@VernDewit6 жыл бұрын
Did you hear back about the wood chopping? That's pretty much all I'd use this ax for, I'm not paying $260 CAD for an ax that can't be used for chopping / splitting wood. :)

- I bought the axe in Germany. When I received it there were 2 very small cracks on the edge, starting perpendicular to the apex and then curving to become horizontal to the edge. I should have sent it back, but I don't like sending things back for some reason so I fixed the edge myself. That's one thing you should not get for this price. - The axe is very pretty for sure, it is delight to have it in my hand. But I feel it is delicate because of the note included. Would I buy it again, or recommend it to a friend? No I would not. I also have the Gränsfors Small Hatchet. That I would recommend. - To be fair, it is a hunters axe. I am not a hunter, and I don't know how a hunter might use his axe for skinning and other tasks, Maybe it is very suited for those tasks.
@Thoristesting5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mikal, I agree, for this price it there should be no flaws what so ever, and I would have send it back, But I see where you get at. I also agree that Gränforss axe are more usefull. Would I recomend this axe to my friend. hmmm it depends you pay for the brand and the looks thats for sure

Hmmm, Im not sure we have that distinction Danish/Swedish. Karesuando calls it small ax. What is the differens in Ax and Hatchet
@rustyshackleford177 жыл бұрын
It is pretty ambiguous and you'll get several different answers. But a hatchet is essentially a one handed ax. So something under 15/20inches.

Overpriced and overrated, the steel is not up to working with Australian timbers, it chips and folds at the edge. I'll stick with a Gransfors or Hultafors in future.

Hmmm Overpriced I dont know about that, it not cheep thats for sureoverratede hmmm maybeDo you have special hard timber in Australia :)I have not have any problem with the steel on mine.But this is also a Piece of artwork.
