Okay but I actually LOVE the line where Odin says Loki inherited his lawless nature and the storm brewing within him from Odin himself and that made him truly his son. That’s such a great way to relate them as father and son after all those years and it’s something Loki probably really needed to hear. Also I think it’s way more fitting that Odin sacrifices himself instead of sort of just awkwardly fading away like in the actual movie.

I still think it was handled poorly though. He was in the movie for all of two minutes before he died. It took away a lot of the impact it should have had. And his death was pretty much forgotten for the rest of the movie. Couple that with the warriors three being killed off like they meant nothing and the constant comedy throughout the movie... I just think the whole movie could've been a lot better if they'd given more gravitas to certain scenes instead of brushing over them quickly and making jokes every 5 minutes.

Aspects of this scene are amazing; the face-off between Hela and Odin, Odin's final words to his sons. Yes, there's some ropey stuff; Hela's accent/the rushed nature of the whole scene. In the end, I think editors were right to go with what they did.
@SaleemFrazer7 ай бұрын
Positives here: We get to see Hela interact with Odin which is more dramatically interesting. Negatives here: Both versions did the character of Odin a disservice in regards to exposition. You have a fantastic actor who can deliver an incredibly extensive and dramatic monologue regarding the realm, Ragnarok, and past regrets regarding Hela’s history. And yet…both versions have him rush through a watered down script to get to the action.

Kinda weird how awkwardly this scene is written in comparison to the rest of the film. The version they used is a lot more melancholy and emotional, and really sets the stage for the movie. As much as people talk about Ragnarok being a comedy, I think one of its greatest strengths is its emotional core.
@ZyliceLiddell4 жыл бұрын
I agree.
@codybaggett53294 жыл бұрын
Odin's death was pretty much it. That was the end of the "old" serious emotional tone that was so spectacular in the first Thor films.
@summertyme57484 жыл бұрын
No. The 1st two Thor films were spectacular bores by comparison. It’s interesting that the Shakespearean trained Kenneth Branagh directed the 1st Thor - then passed on the second. Because it’s Taika Waititi who demonstrated mastery of tragic comedy as opposed to the accidental comedy caused by self seriousness. It’s equally interesting that Natalie Portman quit the MCU after the second film which was awful. But came back after Taika showed what could be done with the material. The actors and directors know when they’ve done good work, and when they haven’t.
@ilyarepin94904 жыл бұрын
We can probably thank Taika Waititi for that. The happy-sad tone of Ragnarok is very reminiscent of his writing style.
@codybaggett53294 жыл бұрын
"Spectacular bores"....why? Is it because you can't stand a film if it isn't stuffed to the hilt with cheesy jokes and one liners? At least the first two films were more accurate to the comics and didn't turn Thor into lebowski.

it is how it is in the comics books when they find him(not the hela part, but the hobo part) also in this Odin say he give Thor the odin force, which thor clearly does not have in the movies, he is way way way to weak, which mean odin is alive somewhere and that was the reason they cut it

This is insanely better than what was in the film. Obviously the effects are unfinished, but it gives so much more explanation to Odin's situation, lets him have a few lines and a dramatic death instead of just randomly fading into dust, lets him interact with Hela which makes her threat more legitimate. Also having Thor and Loki interact with Odin more before he dies makes his death actually mean something instead of feeling like a throwaway moment to get to the next scene. Also having Thor throw his hammer and have it destroyed in direct response to Odin's death and then directly getting portal-ed away makes the whole scene way more intense than him just throwing it at Hela after having a calm discussion after she shows up conveniently after Odin's death.

@BeyondEnchantment *scene Are people really this uneducated? Lol And the way I interpreted his character is a man full of regret in that scene. So much so he felt ashamed. Was he a flawed man, yes, just like everyone. But he recognized his mistakes in the end and atleast told his kids he loved them. Which is what most people on their deathbed do. They look back on life to reflect and cant get their head over their regrets. If you ever visit an old peoples home, you'll notice they talk alot about things they wish they did. Alot of lessons to be learned by volunteering there. Plus it's a sweet thing to do and theyll love you for it:)

I remember seeing bits of this scene in the trailer and being confused as to why it changed, but I think the final scene is a better send off for Odin. Just more warm and slow paced. Helps it leave an impact to his words "Asgard is not a place" where as here it feels like an after thought

Wish Hela was more involved in MCU. She's basically stronger than Thanos w/o infinity stones.
@oneandonlysound34534 жыл бұрын
Yeah I really hope they make the right decision and just have her having escaped Asgard. Just because she "drew her power from it" doesn't mean she'd be powerless, just not seemingly unstoppable. It's even wierd when her "alleged death" happens and it's more of like a big green light then anything more. Really hope she returns and in way better capacity then what they did to red skull.

X Mandarin - X Ultron - X Warmonger - X Ego - X Ronin(who btw the in comics joins the guardians of the galaxy) -X Red Skull - X reduced to minor side character Elf dude from Thor 2 - X Abomination - X Major Ross - not dead but reduced to minor roles Defense secretary In winter soldier - X Crossbones - 1 movie, second movie minor character, died quickly X Thanos - mentioned, hinted at, very little screen time until the two most recent movies, where are kind of one movie in 2 parts. - X Mysterio - 2 movies so far seems likely, we don’t know. Yellowjacket - X So basically most if not all villains are completely throwaway, the only ones who aren’t are not really villains to begin with just have purposes at odds with the heroes and become allies.
