Yeah it is interesting. They look best in the 1v1 scenario though. They scale horribly against Immmortals, even losing in equal ratio fights as the numbers grow. Overall their performance vs Protoss is meh.

I think immortals win in mass due to their size allowing more guns in the same space.

The Thor has always been the same size. WoL had the Odin in the campaign though, which was a super-Thor

The Thor was larger, even in multi-player. This was waaaaaaaaa long ago though, back on WOL.... like 2011 or so. They changed its collision size and its model size to make them less clunky.

Makes sense, the Thor seems to be Humanities way of creating a war machine strong enough to counter most Protoss weaponry. In Canon their back guns are artillery and can decimate large swaths of enemies

Lore accurate protoss fleet is INSANE, void rays can tear through terran capital ships and mechs like paper, tempest can shoot giant balls of death, motherships can decimate entire planets, etc

Just for the game balance. Thor is huge but it gets stomped by the likes of Void rays, carriers, mothership (almost all protoss air) and by the colossus as well. It's however as big as a zerg brutalisk. so it's still stomps, zealots, immortals, archons etc.(still depends, cuz Archons are pretty powerful. They may or may not 1 shot a thor. But from range, I think thor will be able to spot and put quite a few rounds to an archon before the archon can even react) Also, the odin is just a tiny bit bigger than a regular thor but it still get stomp by 1 void ray, or even 1 scout i think. The difference between Protoss and Terran in lore is Protoss are kind of stupid. Their bullshit cult-like religion is holding them back from getting their peak power like (zealots, use blades, they don't have any kind of healing units, they forbid the use of teleportation as means to transport resources just like the description on the auto-refinery for gas, they forbid the use of shadow tactics like zeratul and the dark templar (and they casted them out). They have a lot of mumbo jumbo shit to keep their about their religion thus limiting their fighting capability. Also, Protoss is kind of stupid in a way that they keep fucking with each other. Well, just like humans. If they banded together they'll be able to rule the entire universe. Also, their limiting factor is their population. There are only a handful of them compare to terrans and the zerg. The terrans has both the intelligence to use technology while at the same time breed like rabbits, so they have the numbers even if their tech is inferior. The zergs are just, well zerg.
