BD 6R140 Pressure Enhancer Install: 2011-2018 Ford Powerstroke 6.7L

The Ford 6R140 transmission varies line pressure between 70 and 170 psi. This works well for stock trucks but for heavy duty use and higher horsepower applications, this may be insufficient. BD’s PressureLoc for the 6R140 is a solenoid replacement that overrides the transmission line pressure to maximize output enabling the transmission to handle higher horsepower. The BD PressureLoc will allow the transmission to produce 250-300psi, substantially increasing clutch holding power which prevents clutch slippage and premature clutch failure.

I installed this in my trans. Broke the input shaft in the normal spot. The rebuilder said these are the problem that’s he’s seeing with the broken shafts. There’s no give to them. It worked great until it broke. Broke going down the highway with my cruise set.

Installed mine last night (2018 f350), And installed my fathers a few hours ago (2016 f350) got him one for Christmas. Did mine by myself and took me about 2 1/2 hours, that was without the drain plug because mine just didn’t have one, and my Father’s took us only 45 mins. He did have the drain plug. Honest review of this product, it’s worth every penny! I noticed a change in shifting in my truck which was definitely a lot better and my father was extremely happy with his. Both of our trucks are deleted and tuned with ezlynk. Thanks for the video it was extremely thorough 👍

Hey man, just curious were you having any issues or concerns with transmission before install? I also have a 2016 ez Lynk set up, and some concerning shifts under normal driving. Some flares that lead to harsh shifts…not sure if this will help

Doesn't the pcm control shift pressure? I've seen on my stock 2017 f250 up to 275psi depending on where my pedal was... Flexing in the case.. Really lol, the case holds fine copper wire and moved a small pin back and forth in the end where the O rings are.. There's no flex. Nice job on the video, you'll probably be able to convince unknowing people to purchase this lol.

I have a shudder when it’s downshifting from 6th to 5th and sometimes from 5th to 4th. Fluid was recently changed about 10k miles ago with Mercon LV. No codes found on scanner. Would this begin to eliminate the shudder?

@@khalidmahmood8466 After a few thousand miles on the new fluid/filter it just went away on its own. I did install this part in my truck as well and noticed an improvement in shifting between 2/3 at higher RPM.

I bought new back in 2011FORDF250 6.7L and it has a 6" pro comp lift on 35s and I never race or dog out my truck nor do I pull a trailer that often with it and I've NEVER put it in the mud. Right now I retired the truck and I'll drive it once a month to keep things fresh. Do you really think I would benefit from this solenoid? If I don't need it then I won't install it. I'm always looking for the best for my truck but I'm not sure if I need this solenoid. Thank you for the video bud.

Hi I bought a solenoid from you for my 2011 Ford F350 6.7 and now my transmission oil temperature is constantly at 230 but my transmission did stop slipping. Is the high temp normal?

It shouldn’t be that temp constantly. Something is not right there. Check the rationality of the sensor.

I liked everything about the video until you dumped the solvent into the shop drain !🤦🏻‍♂️lol jk . My truck is bone stock but in sport mode under hard acceleration my tranny seems to shift very mushy and may have a hint of slip will this be a solution to this issue ?

Anything that safely raises the baseline pressure in order to reduce or eliminate slippage so clutch packs last longer in all conditions from towing and hauling down to simply running through the gears in partial load is worth doing.

Took a solenoid out of valve body and went to put new pressure solenoid in and valve closed and won't allow new one in all the way. Any ideas on how to get solenoid in when valve is closed?

I would suggest removing the valve body and get it on a bench so that you can look at it and see what is going on.

I have a hard shifting issue that a new valve body wasn’t able to fix. All i find on forums is that it’s due to tuning my 2012 6.7 and adding about 100 horsepower. I know it’s not the transmission. Will this help with the problem most have with hard shifting after tuning their 6.7?

The tuning will need to be reviewed if its doing that since you tuned it. Or at least start there to determine root cause.

@@chrish5096 Even if it does, they're probably going to have different shift patterns and programming to utilize the torque and horsepower curves of the engine. This solenoid alone isn't going to understand the redline for the gasoline motor is a few thousand RPMs more than the Powerstroke. e.g. If you wear a size 12 shoe, you can put on a pair of size 12 work boots to go jogging in, and they would work, but your ankles are going to be sore at the end of the day.

Type Writer Tick is perfectly normal..Ford released a TSB, as did the other big two. Normal noise on these newer diesels. Has nothing to do with the trans. Must have been a coincidence

I installed this today on a 2012 F250 6.7 and I swear I pulled the right solenoid. After having problems with shifts and a DTC code (Solenoid C stuck open), I checked the solenoid I took out and it has a green o-ring, not an orange one. That means it's a low-pressure solenoid in that slot for me. I guess I will have to do it all over again tomorrow to put the old solenoid back in. Ugh.

Would this help correct a persistent P1744? Its a deleted 2018. Trans and torque converter have been replaced,also different tuning. Still there.

You need to have your truck diagnosed properly. It could be as simple as a bent pin on the TCM connector or a bad TCM if you've already done a new trans and converter and the issue is still there. Those are the first things you'd check for when diagnosing an intermittent issue. Also this BDD solenoid isn't something i'd recommend without proper trans tuning to go with it, as it bumps line pressure and can exaggerate the coning effect on the overdrive clutches which happens on stock line pressure trucks.

@@JaegerWrenching I'll never understand why Ford went with a plastic overdrive piston. 🤦 The plastic wears and provides less and less surface area on the overdrive steels and clutches, causing the coning affect.

Did it produce harsh-er or harder shifts? That's my only concern when daily driving it under normal conditions. Im sure when you're sinking your foot in to it, the shifts are more firm which is fine. Im more concerned about typical driving conditions.

Pull a vacuum on the dipstick tube, Place catch pan under transmission, Remove drain plug, Remove vacuum, Transmission fluid drains. No mess.

It is very hard to say without riding in your truck. If you are having a flare and then a slam into gear to catch up, this could help the issue but I would suggest having the truck looked at by a trans specialist to be certain.

You don't need the solenoid with the tune. I have all factory solenoids and I get 300psi line pressures.

@@HSKFabrications The issue that they're wondering if they'll run into is having 300psi running through the stock solenoid which is unquestionably smaller in size and less robust. They should've asked would it have been a better idea to let the computer kick up the pressure or let the bigger solenoid that was designed for higher pressures do it so you aren't doing the job twice once you wear out the stock solenoid from pushing it past it's intended limits?

Am having a little problem with transmission in my 2018 f250 6.7L when It shifts into 4th gear it feels like it’s slipping it kind of goes into 4th gear and then when the RPM goes higher it grabs the fall 4th gear. Could that mean Solenoid pressure is too low or could it be torque converter

I had the same problem until running a combo tune. Then I switched... my Ecm is the banana smoothie tune SOFT V1.2 and TCM only medium shift 2nd lock v1.4

We have not seen a raise in trans temps that are outside of normal operating range.

I was surprised to see a 5-10 degree increase in transmission temperature across the board (daily driving and towing) after installing the solenoid. My truck is a 2017 with 24k miles when I did this mod.

So... Funny thing happened. I called the bd diesel. The support guy said it's better to get the controller. As it automatically changes pressure according to how much it needs. Instead of full power all the time. Even when 1 does not need it.

Been thinking about doing this but I’m skeptical installing 3rd party solonoid in my transmission. My situation is a 6.7 2012. Deleted and tuned by multiple different outfits. The reason I’ve tried different tunes is because the transmission shifts rough when at perfect rpms mostly 3-4 4-5 Different tunes have not changed anything on the shifting. Isn’t the higher pressure going to create other problems in the tranny or the other solenoids.

@@ryanbrown918 I have a 2011 F350 6.7 that has slow shifts from 2nd-3rd and 5-6 only when the truck is cold. This happens even in the summer when 75°at night. After a few miles as the trans warms it shift normally. 4/10 manufacture date. This truck has H&S programer and is completely deleted with 215,000 miles. This is my work truck so it is not driven hard. Any help would be great guys!
