Thorsen is hugely positive in the scene he's got odd mannerisms but he is always hyping up his opponents and the love of the scene. He was essentially an early great (like gen 1.5 not og og but still) who saw the scene around beatbox looping exploding. He was Danish solo beatbox champ 3 times in a row leading up to this too.

Since you're getting deeper into the genre and some of the less popular battles, there is an "expanded universe" that is ripe for reactions with a lot of what you're looking for. For Solo beatbox, I highly recommend the entire BBU 2022 competition. It was an online competition, and each round had a single submission per beatboxer. This competition was a new concept in that it offered large cash prizes for the competitors at almost every level, and there was a big emphasis on production value. Each video contains both the artist's and their competitor's names per round, so the two videos for each round could be matched up and played together if you want to. For example, one round would be two routines (one per each competitor), and their videos are labeled like this (match rounds by [Competitor]/[Opponent] and [bracket round]): [Competitor] vs [Opponent] | [Name of Routine] | #bbu [bracket round] HISS vs DILIP | Rainbow | #bbu22 Top 16 DILIP vs HISS | GAME OVER | #bbu22 Top 16 For Loopstation, I also highly recommend going thru the 2022 German Loopstation Championships battles. Germany REALLY took off in the past year, and this competition really opened a lot of eyes about what they're doing over there. There are a BUNCH of incredible battles and they're all high-energy. Personal favorites include: Friidon vs Lennard, Antrix vs Kaos, Slether vs Kaos, and Slether vs Syjo (there are plenty of good choices). For the little bit I've heard, the West Germany Loopstation 2023 that recently case out sounds like it's a bunch of good stuff as well. In regards to more Swiss Beatbox content that is straight up 🔥, the 2021 & 2023 GBB Wildcards are generally strong content for both Beatboxing and Loopstation. If you want to make an entire show around it, they have released compilation videos for both Beatbox and Loopstation Wildcard winners (the ones that went on to compete) that are in seeding order (meaning lowest to highest scoring routine), so they videos build the intensity and anticipation as you go thru them. GREAT videos, both of them, even if split up into 2 videos apiece.

It's so fun watching the older loop battles, they were pretty much just using the MK1 as a basic loop device at this point and not using many of it's features. There was a huge shift when Saro came along and showed everyone what was possible. Then came Inkie with the era of multiple devices. It's been so fun to watch the progression. GBB this year was incredible with the producer showcases.

It may seem like Thorsen might be a bit too in the face of MB14, but realistically it was pretty chill. The setup was very close to keep the "battle atmosphere" and literally be in the face of the opponent back in the day, it was meant to not only increase the competetiveness within the event but also help understand each other's techniques (which were way more limited back in the day, since the scene was WAY smaller). It might obviously have a lot to do with budget related stuff as well, but yea. Also the logisitcs made it kinda awkward, when Thorsen needed some water before his 2nd round (which was very vocal heavy) and he had to kinda squeeze past MB14 to grab some ^^ But ya, Thorsen is an OG of the game, making way and forming a very succesful loopstation scene by introducing a lot of techniques and getting a lot of beatboxers interested in looping themselves, since he showed the ability to perform whole sets, complete tracks and just all in all good music. Also yes, in a Beatbox BATTLE the overall impact on the crowd plays the biggest role in judging as far as i know, which makes heavy styles (like King Inertia, Codfish, Napom, B-Art, etc.) super good. This also transitions to looping. If the crowd is on fire it's usually a very good sign. There is also a few battle in a "Showcase Battle" category, which offers more of the melodic, musical side of beatbox. A style which suits beatboxers like Show-Go or MB14 way more IMO. But ya, I just really enjoy seeing y'all dive deeper and deeper into the beatbox scene. It's very chill to watch and rediscover some older bangers. If I may suggest a smaller tourney, which is overlooked a lot (and barely covered by reactors) and also covers some of the best looping to this day, I'd suggest the German Beatbox Championship 2022 in the Looping category. Basically EVERY battle is a banger. To get a feel if you like the battles i'd suggest "Syjo vs Mistix | Loop 1/4 Finaly", which features one of the hardest rounds on the entire tourney, while only being a quarterfinal. Every single battle has at least 1 or 2 CRAZY rounds tho! :D

You gotta hear some Tom Thumb = Granddaddy of loopstation beatbox. (And judge for most of these events) His KZfaq channel has several songs/covers: "Lady Tell That Man" "Say Something" "Cry Me A River" Plus original songs, and short grooves. Also famously did the loopstation TedX, and guest talent for many events.

Today i watched the livestream from GBB in Tokyo. It was amazing i wished i had been there.

This was still an early era for "beatbox/loopstation" which was heavily influenced by battle rap scene. Some of the earliest beatbox battles I can remember were like intermissions at rap battle events. A lot of the early beatboxers/loopers had a battle mode (Alem, skiller, Penkyx). Even MB14 went battle mode when he first battled Penkyx. They were also on the same table back here so no real separation between contestants.

it's totally true tho, psychological warfare is indeed an effective tactic to use, and I've noticed beatboxers like mb14 and King Inertia are kinda weak to it. Whenever they battle someone that has the edge on them in terms of confidence and battle attitude they tend to lose and/or underperform from what I've seen

You guys don't understand the beatbox scene at all. Loopstation battles, especially the old school were done close together with both contestants rocking out and watching and getting into it. You are misreading curiousity for something that isn't there. Thorsen is good people. This was reasonably early in MB14s competitive career if I remember correctly. I think he joined the French beatbox team in 2015 and loop stations were still in their early generations at this point, so people were still learning new ways to use them. I think you are mistaking Thorsen's interactions as hostile or arseholeish when he's just upping MB14. You'll notice a lot of beatboxers get really close to each other when performing but it's all in good fun, there aren't often grudges held.

GBB has never had a great sound setup. Malfunctions happen to a lot of the contestants, MB14 is still good enough to win even with the malfunctions, most aren't which is probly why you don't see many others.
