Gokaiger is truly an Anniversary Series that shows genuine LOVE to its franchise. Even the 10 Years Later V-Cinema shows so much respect for this show & its history.

Gokaiger shares this spirit of standing up against the tragedy of the quake right alongside Kamen Rider Fourze, easily one of the most upbeat and optimistic entries in that entire franchise.

Watched Gokaiger for the first time about 2 months ago and LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! Especially the final couple episodes when the world seemed to be doomed and there were a number of cameos not just from previous sentai teams, but also characters of the day from earlier episodes in this season. It felt so earned and much better put together than Legendary War cameos.

Megaforce dropped the ball big time while Gokaiger and Goseiger remain pure unadulterated badass.

That's fascinating context regarding the Black Cross Fuhrer that I'd never known before. I think it's a really good point you focused on, with the ex-Sentai now continuing their lives, and finding meaning in it. That our lives don't have to be over just because the supposed "prime" of it has passed. It's a really nice reminder, and I appreciate it.

one thing that makes this season really well as well would be for those that had never seen a super sentai before. playing the roll of the crash course, and the fact that the heroes are essentially embracing an evil to combat a greater evil concept dynamic.

Having recently rewatched the movie myself, the best thing I loved about this movie was something that you alluded to in your video but didn't say outright. I loved the clashing of ideologies between these specific teams and in particular the duality between two very different sets of Red Rangers. Alata's someone who wanted to opt for peace and just talk it out, but Marvelous's past and the nature of being a pirate are diametrically opposed to what angels are supposed to be like. It's fascinating watching the Goseiger have to play dirtier than they're used to before they all get sucked into pocket dimensions. It's a movie that really feels like it's putting these very different teams together and the conflicts that would arise even outside of the anniversary things this movie does. I also loved the film's treatment of the past Sentai heroes. What you said was absolutely perfect. Selling bread, doing your job, and helping others are no less valid than the Sentai shenanigans because it's what made them heroes in the first place outside of the spandex. I stopped watching Power Rangers after Jungle Fury. But at some point, I came across a gif of a huge army of rangers and I just had to know where that came from. That's how I ended up watching Legendary Battle. I had no prior context regarding the story of Megaforce and its reputation in the fandom. I just enjoyed the huge battle because I had never seen that many rangers together before. Afterwards, I started reading a lot in the wiki to catch up on what has been happening with Power Rangers while I was gone. That was how I found out how mishandled Megaforce was. That was also how I started getting curious about the Sentai counterparts of Power Rangers, most especially the movie where Legendary Battle was partly based on. That Gokaiger movie is my very first experience with Super Sentai. (In retrospect, that was such a bad way of getting into Sentai considering that there are 34 Super Sentai series and 16 episodes of Gokaiger that ideally should be watched first in order to understand fullest context of the events of that movie.) Despite my ignorance of anything about Super Sentai, the subplot of the salaryman giving up on life and considering to sell his toy made me tear up. I didn't know what Gorenger is. I didn't know what Variblune is. I didn't know anything about those three veteran rangers that helped the salaryman cheer up and reinstate his love for Super Sentai. The spirit of what Super Sentai stands for, both in-universe and here in the real world, was so raw in that movie that even someone like me who didn't know Super Sentai felt and understood how these superheroes inspire their audience.

The REAL "Legendary war"

Gokaiger is my favorite Sentai of the 32 I’ve watched. Super Megaforce did that season dirty.

Gokaiger is one of the greatest children's shows ever made, regardless of genre.

The problem with Megaforce's Legendary War is that it ultimately amounted to nothing. I know it was foreshadowed in Troy's dreams. However, much like the potential human vs insect vs machine debate, it is completely undercut and ignored. Emperor Marvo, the only one who remained a threat, is dead at that point along with the rest of the leadership of the Armada. And time and time again, we've seen that the foot soldiers of the Armada amount to nothing at that point. Even much of the Armada's invasion force is useless outside of the Mothership. It would have been a completely different story of the Legendary War had happened in the lead up to Marvo's defeat rather than after it. We've also started to see more Sentai crossover between series in Japan. The ones that the Gokaigers are involved in tend to also end on a much more lighthearted note than the others, making it feel more like the punchline to turn something into a gag.

This encouraged me to actually finish the Sentai vid I started to make. I've been watching this movie for about 10 years now and it is still enjoyable. I'm always watching these seasons because both are very entertaining & have great characters.

Side note: pretty clever that the two teams are Angels (associated with divine law) and Pirates (group by definition are lawless)

I promise, we'll never be tired of the Gokaigers

Gokaiger was the first Super Sentai show I watched, and I made sure to watch every movie and special released as I continued. This movie absolutely takes the cake for one of the best parts of that journey, with all of the characters coming back in their own way to show that they are still heroes in the present after they lost their power. An idea I also loved seeing in the show itself And the final battle against the Black Cross Fuhrer alongside every single Mecha helping the Gokaigers and the Goseigers absolutely made me emotional. It was a great!

About Black Cross King/Fuhrer, 総統 (soto) can be translated in many ways including "Supreme Leader," "Duce," "Caudillo," and oddly enough "President of the Republic of China." It's actually still used for the President of the ROC today. Language is funny. I imagine him as "Black Cross President of the Republic of China."

This was my first sentai and it'll always be my favorite. It sold me on every other Sentai season as a hardcore PR fan growing up

I want to recommend the two Zyuohger episodes with the Gokaigers, since Ten Gokaiger references them in an amazing way, but they do have Zyuohger plot development so you might be a bit lost, the summer movie, Gavan crossover and Go-Busters crossover aren’t exactly plot relevant but they’re all very fun

Gokaiger is awesome! Hopefully, Once and Always will give us something closer to that level of respect. My Megaforce rewrite actually had the legendary battle take place both at the start and the end because the first one was an alternate timeline, where the rangers lost, that the phantom ranger was trying to prevent using time travel.

The Ishinomori museum is in Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture. It was one of the harder hit areas and the museum was hit by the tsunami. It survived and is still there now.

Amazing writing as always. I'm totally down for more Gokaiger. But I'm down for any Sentai content as long as you impart your interesting perspective on it.

I've watched Goseiger from beginning to end. And while it's not that great, I do appreicate what it brought to the table and can see the many instances of untapped potential it could bring, even if it's in the context of more accurately adapting it as a Power Rangers seasons. And this movie honestly helped to reinforce that, especially since the Gokaigers are just very interesting as characters and as a Sentai season as a whole. Not adapting AkaRed into the Power Rangers universe almost feels like a major missed opportunity to me.

I loved the Goseigers here as a foil to the Gokaigers. The angels are a model Super Sentai team and basically where Megaforce got it but with a reason for their “too good for this world” vibe. Hell, Alata and Marvelous couldn’t been more at odds with their personalities alone. I just feel like Goseiger gets snubbed too often. I hope you dive into it proper someday. The endgame boss is simply to die for.

I don’t know how this was the first movie I ended up on in the super senti world…. But it was a perfect way in. I’ve been on a deep dive every since.

You know you brought up the guy who started Sentai(and Kamen Rider) in the video. You may check out the team up movie Super Hero Senki that was during Zenkaiger's run. It's a team up with the Kamen Rider group but also is about the origin of both properties and a fun(also bonkers) movie.

Oh yes he finally talking about my favorite Sentai or show I remember when I was in the 8th grade back in 2011 one of my closest friends got me hip to Sentai having spent years of only knowing about pr so when I watched this for the first time I was like oh shit this hit different and here we r 12 years and more shows later and it all started with a friend getting me into the world of tokusatsu or super Sentai

And while I didn't know about this movie nor the incident that occured during it's inception until this video but my point still stands also due to the fact that gokaiger and to an extent the superhero taisen movie was such a breath of fresh air I saw that legendary war from there movie and gokaiger back in 2012 bc megaforce and super megaforce was such a terrible adaptation of the gokaiger storyline IMO glad he's finally talking about my favorite pr Sentai show

Goseiger’s good named was sullied by Megaforce. What an embarrassing American adaptation. Goseiger will forever be my most fav Super Sentai series.

Isn't even the first Sentai affected by real world events. Ohranger was supposed to be straight faced and serious but, between the production of the 8th and 9th episodes, Aum Shinrikyo unleashed the deadly toxin Sarin in the Tokyo underground on March 20th 1995 that killed 14 people. That, and later the 6000 death 1995 Tokyo earthquake, led to the season being turned into a controversial and slightly infamous shitpost. I tell ya, going from the eighth to ninth episodes back to back with no context was incredibly jarring. Sidenote, dunno if this still happens today but new episodes of Sentai back then were made only a short while before they aired. That's why this production was able to so dramatically shift. Power Rangers doesn't have this problem since they always film everything one year ahead of airing and then film the next season whilst the last is airing.

I'm always up for more Gokaiger. I was solely a PR fan only until rumors started that Power Ranger Pirates was a possible upcoming team and that seemed very interesting to me. You have the cheesiness of Power Rangers, the Alien-possibilities from space exploration and since they're Pirates - you don't even have to make them nice people - they could contrast every other teams "I must always do the right thing" hero complex by just being jerks. Add on to the series being a big tribute to all past teams means there was no shortage of references, nostalgia, fan service or cameos to cash in on. The resulting disappointment of Super Megaforce drove me to watch Gokaiger instead. During my watching I did stumble upon this Gokaiger & Goseiger special and I was mostly confused as the comments overwhelmingly favored the Gokaigers instead of the Goseigers. In fact, a lot of the comments were about how bad the Goseiger series was. I went on to watch both series and while I don't think the Goseiger series was bad I certainly had much more fun with and more emotional investment in Gokaiger and it's characters.

Gokaiger is the end all be all right now. Marvelous-san lives up to his name. the Goseigers i feel were portrayed at first very poorly. they are a sweet team that became a family. Alata-kun isn't that pushy or mean (for lack of a better word) in his series.

I was only 12 then 13 when megaforce/super, and even for those who hadn’t seen goesiger or gokaiger back then (ie me) were still just as insulted and appalled by the level of sheer worthlessness that was in its American adaptation.

The part about the Sentai alumni moving on with their lives reminded me of this line from Avengers: Age of Ultron. “Isn’t that the mission? Isn’t that why we fight? So we can end the fight? So we get to go home?”

If I would rewrite megaforce... I would make the legendary battle the season finale, so Super Megaforce would emulate the space opera aspects of In Space while the rangers go after the ranger keys, and use the opportunities to explain the non-ranger keys they had like the Dairangers (who were the first ever ranger in comic book lore). The Gokaiger keys would be Gosei finding a way to pirate an access to the morphing grid and let them morph again to be better prepared for the quest.
