I agree and even when I read your words, it doesn't quite express how good it is. I felt a bit defeated trying to put into words something so special to me. In talking to people with MKII and Indigo, I think it just gets better which is even harder to wrap my head around. Thank you

@@PaulWasabii The sensation of the MEST II to me when I first put them on was similar to when I first heard the HD800. The most vivid sound images I have ever heard. By the way, there’s a cheaper model coming up by UM called the MEXT, which costs around 1k. And instead of going all out for technicalities, the MEXT has a little more bass and it’s less in the face in the upper spectrum for a more laid back and more musical experience. Great for people who find the MEST/MEST II fatiguing.

I think you already know, saw your post on Facebook. I think most people who have tried different cables with MEST simply try different cables. Some people hated the stock cable.

I don't know if I would chase anything if you love Variations. Its up there among the best. As I said, the concern with MEST is the fatigue. I haven't heard Variations though. $550 I think I would jump on MEST as you can sell it for the same price if you hate it. Unless prices have changed, a used MEST was $700ish.

Yes I had a Nanna 2.0 for a bit. This is true "Nanna is like if the mest would take a chill ". MEST does detail differently than Nanna or anything else. I have heard various version of what they do to treble for that effect but not really sure its accurate. It is very different and can be very intense. As you said, Nanna is more natural in detail and that is why I said MEST has a super natural sound to it. Its very cool, but natural is not how I would describe it. It seems to amplify detail rather than present it naturally. I understand why people love it. You have Nanna, I have EJ07M, those are more natural in that sense but I wouldn't trade my EJ in for a MEST. I think it is a super fun set to have in one's collection, but not my primary set. The mids and vocals in particular have this near and wide at the same time effect. Vocals can be very close and intimate but the other instruments can be much farther away at the same time. Again, maybe its bone conduction, but its something that sounds different than any other set. It is very hard to compare parts of MEST to anything (mids to mids). Yes, I think I would want a used MEST in my collection someday as it is unique, but not necessarily as a replacement. Maybe MK2 or MEXT refined that sound a bit more so it is close to a daily carry set, just not sure. For me, Nanna is closer to how I think about EJ07, that relaxed set I can listen to for hours where MEST might be that gym or mowing the lawn set, a short burst of absolute fun. BTW, I have read more than a few reviews on MEST, did my own review, and not sure I came close to describing all that goes on in MEST. I am not a MEST is BEST person, but yeah, it certainly left an impression on me. Even though it might not be my endgame, I certainly understand people who stopped after hearing MEST.

Not polar opposites, but EJ07M is a more neutral set with a relaxed treble which some would call not enough for detail chasers. MEST was almost the opposite, built for detail chasers with a real strong upper range level and unique driver config.

UM MEXT is coming up, a little more bass than the MEST II, less in your face treble and cheaper.

MEXT also lost the EST. MEST is one I will think about quite a bit as time goes on, keeping an eye out for used sets as they pop up. Something about having that full raw experience of MEST is maybe more enticing than the refined versions.

I have Clairvoyant and it is at the other end of the intensity spectrum from MEST.

That is the thing, it is very hard to hear the miss or the hit. I asked people who had owned it or own it, how do I know. I never got a clear answer. The shell certainly presses against parts of my ear, but yeah, I think you need to try it. Thank you

I get that and nice deal on that one. When you get the tips and fit right, it is a very special set. I have friends with Indigo so it is interesting to hear how they evolve the MEST sound over time.

@@PaulWasabii getting a tight deep insert but never heard a 3d holographic iem so not sire what that sounds like exactly! I can hear the instruments separation and placement of thr instruments is there something else as well? Some people say instruments move around or go from far left to close and personal left which in havent heard yet.
