Hi Robert, as a Levin & Son Lathe caretaker we see you have the first edition book for from Louis and Samuel Levin Practical Benchwork, we only have the later to be released in the 1980's the paperback version. The company that still produces great Levin products is located in Santa Fe Springs, California, just 115 miles from our home and watchmakers shop so we are happy to find another watch tool maker. Thank you for the sharing and the online thread making chart. That is a neat build, looks like you made a great detailed tool. Fantastic polishing devise for making a perfect finish on the head of the screw (s).

Thanks...I lived in northern CA for years...went to UCD and taught school for years...hope you'll follow my clock build...next video I'll be using some bull's foot files I've made to finish off a pair of escape wheels.

Thank you for making this vid. I recently came into posession of a jewelers lathe. I am a woodturner, but have always wanted to do machining. I had no 220v and no space. This seems a great alternative. I apprecite the resource info.

Thanks for your kind words. Work on your graver skills...as a wood turner it might come easy...but I don't turn wood so not so sure...nevertheless work on graver skills...and find a good interesting project to play around with.

Thanks!...the need for gears for this little gizmo is what got me started into hobs...turned out to be a great approach to making gears in a home shop...looking forward to your next video...bob

Thanks. I have that book too and have looked at the attachment and thought it was beyond my skills. Maybe not? Thanks for the idea on the little universal joints. The rest looks fairly straight forward. Norm in Arizona

It is a fairly straight forward project...especially with the help of NthreadsP...hobbing the gears took a bit of time.

You must really like your screws nice and shiny :) Your threading mechanism is very impressive. Does that screw extension ever get in the way of reaching the workpiece? And how about left threads?

I'm working on a skeleton clock so if it ain't brass...it's blue and shiny! The screw extension does not seem to get in the way...but I've had it for years and it never saw much use...I have several tool room lathes...so I kinda made the threading attachment to make the cross slide useful...and it was fun! I seldom if ever see left hand threads...but a year or so ago I turned a left hand thread on my Atlas...a part for my surface grinder...thanks.

I am by no means an expert on NthreadsP but in the write up they supply at LathesUK they say: "The programs have been written to help with the following situations: 5) To generate metric pitches on an English lathe without using a 127 tooth gear" I have used it a couple of times to form metric threads just as it suggests…I supplied the gears I had on hand (I did not have a 127 tooth gear) and asked for a metric read out…they may not have been perfect metric threads but I could not tell the difference…I’m afraid that is the best I can do…give it a try

Can you cut different threads using this attachment or can you only do one thread?
@robertt-cs8fe
@robertt-cs8fe 4 жыл бұрын
You can cut different threads the same way you do with any engine lathe with change gears...I use NthreadsP to figure the correct set up
