use a mike boom with a counter balance to attatch your camera too and it can shoot over head at many angles and be out of your way to work.

I just made a custom bolt knob, but I did not drill with a larger bit to make a relief. I was planning on using a Dremel to blend the shoulder together with the knob, but I like what you did better. What size did bit did you use for the relief?

I cant remember off the top of my head but it was just bigger than the threads of the bolt handle, just enough to hide the shoulder.

How hard is it to get started machining? I’ve always wanted to start but being my age that isn’t really possible without the proper equipment.

There's a few options. Some will be more viable than others based solely on you, finances, location, time, etc...If you have a family member or friend that's a machinist you could ask to shadow them. A vocational/night school maybe. Apprentice a shop if you can find one. You can always jump straight into it if you have the money to purchase some form of lathe and mill. I do not recommend a mini lathe btw. You can even find pretty descent lathes on marketplace.
