In the process of purchasing a Falcon Northwest 32 core TR Pro RAK system primarily for Ansys simulation. They just released the 90 board options with 8 channel memory which is what we were waiting for as simulation is RAM heavy and this system will likely be setup as 2-4 user virtual machines with cores and ram to be allocated dynamically. May set it up as one machine, depends on software demands. Love the content! Nice to see some tech tubers that cover enthusiast and professional products!

I absolutely hate that motherboard manufacturers stopped producing affordable boards with diagnostic error code readers... Because they know they can upcharge a lot more for the feature with their more expensive line-up on cards, when it'd help out consumers, customer support agents etc. so fucking much.

After the sh#tstorm that was AMD's handling of TRX40, manufacturers ain't interested in adding extended features, found on so many TRX40 boards, to TRX50. MSI pulled out of TR 7000 because AMD utterly destroyed any hope of R&D return on TRX40. Most MB manufacturers are pretty pissed at AMD. Error code readers? not a chance, unfortunately.

TR-7000 and TRX50 have finally come in at a decent price in Canada. The TR 5000 series was unreasonably high in price, forcing me to go Intel W7-2495X 512GB W790-ACE last year. TR-7960X 24-Core $2100 - TR-7970X 32-Core $3600 - ASUS TRX50-SAGE $1200. Seven months too late for me though. My Intel system has been great. Maybe I'll get a TR-7000 32-Core next year though...

My current setup is an AMD Threadripper 1950X CPU with an ASUS X399 Motherboard and 1 NVIDIA 4090 GPU, in a Corsair Carbide 540 Cube case, running a 1500 watt Corsair Power supply. Why is the Q Code always in that shitty position? It belongs to where the 24 pin is, every other location is wasted. 4:00 sounds to me that mainstream should get 4 channel memory, I mean it's damn time, also since we live in a post nvme world I want a minimum of 32 lanes on mainstream.
@MaddJakd
@MaddJakd 5 ай бұрын
Seriously! The mainstream should have what the "old" HEDT had as far as PCIe lanes, or close. I think my "old" X79 System has 44. My TR4 has 64. At least give the i/R9 30-40 lanes. Makes no sense having mobos come out with legit 4+ M.2 slots that have to all be castrated if one's crazy enough to populate them all.

I am kind of annoyed by the lack of IPMI on TRX50 and the inability to run non-pro Threadrippers in the WRX boards albeit with limitations. Maybe the engineering required to get those limitations working is too high (only supporting certain RAM slots is one thing, but I'm sure dealing with PCIe will bring a lot of headaches), but at least allow us mere mortals to rack these with out of band management. Pikvm exists but it's not the same. The slot-layout of the TRX50 boards is kind of annoying too for 3-slot GPUs so having all the slots available would have been helpful. It's actually making me consider either Genoa, Threadripper Pro 5000 or dare I say it a Xeon-W CPU.

The lack of USB4 is strange, especially when the WRX80/ TR40 Came with a few. Seriously seems only that "baby" Gigabyte Aero board has USB4. I almost can't even say this was last second because of ASUS made the WRX80 motherboard with "more" than this. Seems like a mild jab towards AMD from the few board makers with these.

@@MaddJakd I think the real issue is that in most homes, the outlets in a single room are on the same circuit. I'd have to run a heavy duty extension cord down the hall to get on a different breaker. Heck the help desk I used to run in a 1-1 computing school that was built in 2006, has like 70+ outlets where too many of them were on the same circuit. Not even enough surface area to use half of them, and tripped the breaker once mass imaging laptops.

Here is where i diverge with the memory argument. While yes RDIMM is great, there is effectively nothing other than greed preventing uDIMM and RDIMM from sharing the same key and number of pins. because what costs more than having one manufacturing line for the PCB and slot? 2 of them. I dont care if the manufacturer is arguing that users are too stupid to know the difference between udimm and rdimm, because now that means they've ended up with a stack of useless udimm. By devolving back to the DDR2 era we have lost a wider range of re-usability. Dont want to validate consumer uDIMM? AIBs dont have to, there are plenty of RDIMM that arent validated either. User doesnt want memory headaches? Get some RDIMM from the QVL. Want to punish yourself? Get some uDIMM that is on the VFL. Want to buy a used CPU, board, and RAM from the back of a panel van or corporate garage sale? Easy to troubleshoot issues if you have another kit of RAM lying around, and i doubt its going to be RDIMM for the average person unless their environment is enterprise.
