Guys - The gentleman speaking is ex-member of British folk rock band Mumford & Sons. He is Winston Marshall, and left the band in 2021 due to social media backlash after praising Andy Ngo's book, "Unmasked". He is not a student but a guest speaker of Oxford Union. A fantastic speech at that. Make the old woman Pelosi just that, an old woman (who ought to retire). @Vivek, his referral to "elites" are those filthy rich people who feel they are high above those of us who are mere working class folk. I rated you quit highly in the past, but if you feel this is some sort of attack on yourself as a very wealthy man, you will have to think hard about who's side you are really on!

Amongst the working class, there are people who agree and support Pelosi's ideology, which includes the cancel culture. There are also people from the super rich class or elite class who also subscribe to Pelosi's ideology. As a result, I think that is why Ramaswamy is objecting to lumping every elite into one side of the ideological divide.

You only have to look at who the Davos people are and who attends. WEF is invite only. They have openly stated they target young and influential leaders, and have even penetrator government cabinets. Then look at what they stand for. There you will find your definition of the 'elitist' people he is talking about.

When I think "elites" my first thought isn't "wealthy." I think about the people who hold the strings. The ones who have power and control over our liberty. Yes, they are generally wealthy, but without their title, what are people like Pelosi? Fauci? Zuckerberg? Klaus? They would just be wealthy people you never heard of. Not elites.

@@307living3 - As stated previously, 'democracy' is an umbrella that covers many forms of democratically elected government. There are two basic forms, direct and indirect. No nation is governed by DIRECT democracy, where every individual has input into every policy decision, as that would be entirely unworkable beyond the size of a parish council or fundraising committee. Then there is indirect democracy, the major sub-category of which is representative democracy which in turn has sub-catagories. The UK is a parliamentary democracy, where a parliament (legislative branch) directly elected by the people appoints an executive branch (Cabinet of Ministers) and head of government (Prime Minister). Neither the PM nor Cabinet have executive powers, needing the consent of Parliament (the legislative branch) to enact legislation because only Parliament is DEMOCRATICALLY accountable to the electorate (who are the 'owners' of all sovereign powers - hence 'democracy'). The US has a presidential democracy, where the head of government is directly elected by the people, and therefore has some executive powers because he/she IS DEMOCRATICALLY accountable to the electorate (who are the 'owners' etc...) You're conflating type of nation with type of government. The US is a constitutional republic governed by presidential democracy, the UK is a constitutional monarchy governed by parliamentary democracy. Both are governed by sub-catagories of representative democracy, which is a completely seperate thing from their being constitutional whatevers.

I don’t think that people that use the term democracy are just so stupid and people that understand that we’re a constitutional republic are so smart. I think this comes up way too often and is really a distraction. I think the term democracy is generally just used to point out the importance of participation as in democratic ideals. As in we should all get out there in our communities and participate in taking care of our country. I’d say we are a constitutional republic that values democratic participation. I mean ideally that’s what we are.

English should be the official language of the USA. I am originally from Honduras in Honduras there are 9 different languages some of them I personally know which are Garifuna, their tribe is garifuna, Misquito, their tribe is misquitos, English, of course, Spanish is the official language. When I was in Honduras 25 years ago after sixth grade for children who have the opportunity to go to school start learning English in seventh grade. I started learning English in 7th grade by the time I moved to the USA I already knew some English. For me, personally, if you want to talk to me you talk to me in English. If you do not speak English too bad because that is the language I speak. I am an immigrant woman and I approved of making English the official language, I am a very, very conservative woman. And has dated the likes of Dianna Agron and Katy Perry, but now has returned to his Christian faith. @@Christstuffer Trump absolutely did handle it wrong. I am not saying Trump is wrong on principle, but he handled it wrong. He should have spoke on specifics of what we know was 100% true which was the suppression of the laptop, the illegal changing of voting rules in various states because of (COVID), the mail in ballot BS, the drop box BS, the massive anomalies that happened in this election that never happened before, etc. However, to your point, I hear you on Vivek, but there are a lot of people like Vivek who have changed their tune based on many circumstances of looking at the entire picture. A LOT of people gave up on Trump after his last term, but when he started making his comeback and demonstrated he had learned to be better in his speaking and Biden showed how terrible he can make things at Warp speed and Vivek realized he likely won't be a serious contender, Vivek had to make a shift. I do understand it. Vivek would and should still be critical of Trump's actions, but in the end, you have to get behind the leader as long as you agree with 80% of what he stands for.
