In this video I wean the calves and talk a little bit about why and how I do it, all while demonstrating low stress cattle handling techniques.

My grandfather, a dairy farmer always said, “ You have cultivate patience.” In your case, your patience and not pushing the cattle too much certainly paid off. Made it less stressful for everyone. Amazing to watch you work the cattle single-handed. Your running commentary, explaining the process is quite informative, and entertaining as well. A few LOL moments, “no sense of urgency here… the traffic has now come to a standstill…” I think you learned a thing or two working with your grandpa! The “through the fence” method of weaning is a brilliant idea. Still within sight and smell of each other, but no more nursing! A good day’s work! Enjoy time with your family. Stay well and safe. Greetings from Ontario Canada.🇨🇦

Excellent explanation of the weaning process, and even better execution of the plan! Went way better than I thought with a one person operation. Obviously, you’ve done this a time or two!😂😂

Very good example of sorting cows from calves. You are a Great herdsman and really like how calm you are with the cattle.weaning calves from cows where they can see each other is less stressful and good way to do that. Thank you for sharing and continued success.

Good job separating the calves from the cows. Patience really does pay off. I've seen guys get in a hurry and it excites both cows and calves and makes for a real mess. Again, good job.

I'm always amazed at your solo herding abilities! It's more peaceful that the hurry & push method. You have done so much rebuilding of the farm in the years I have watched you. Also, a big thank you for introducing me to Redmond Agriculture! I have bought salt rocks and supplements for my granddaughter's High School Rodeo horses. Their products are wonderful. Nicely done, Tyler. I admire your gentle but tiered use of voice and whip/persueder and like the "fence weaning" which must at least somewhat ease the bawling with both Mom and the calf. Great job explaining too.

Hi Tyler. That makes sense. It's like a human mother...prolonged nursing puts a lot of stress on her body. Not to mention, teeth. Lol. I've seen cats lose a lot of weight nursing their kittens too long. Wow, they're all protesting.

It is amazing how many of the calves can get around the Lakeland feeder!! Wonderful drone coverage Tyler and great cattle sorting. Yep, slow and steady won that race😁. In the breaks in in the bawling I could hear the geese calling. I for one sure do enjoy their song. When you fed the cows they suddenly forgot all about their calves🤓. Not much nutrition in the new green grass but it sure is looking beautiful. With the one man show you will get the feed bunk done when it gets done, just the way it goes. Thanks for the ride this week, see you next week.
