Brings to mind when Dad was in the US Navy and sent on deployments for 3 to 6 months at a time leaving Mom with 2 boys and a beagle for the duration. This internet age makes that kind of thing so much less isolating than the 1970s when Mom & Dad might be able to share 1 letter a month and maybe 1 radiotelephone call in the middle of the night during the whole deployment from Dad couldn't divulge where.
