I love that Afghani sounds like a younger, slightly more energetic Mario. Martinet's Mario was a plumber who bravely took up the task to save the princess, though he was aware of the dangers. Afghani's is excited for the change in pace and ready to tackle what may come. It's always sad to see a legend go but it seems the torch is in good hands.

what are you talking about? (NOT THAT HE'S BAD . . . but) There was a big debate on Mario's voice for the wonder trailer, people were theorizing that it was a new voice actor but nobody believed it because the idea of Charles not playing Mario was absurd.

It’s a compliment to Kevin’s voice and the legacy of Charles’s Mario.

I immediately thought that they sounded different, but I was thinking maybe because they had recorded it more recently for the game then the other voice recordings which were probably reused from other games. Or at least that's how I worked it out in my head, I have no idea how they do things. But either way, the new Mario voice is doing really well, and I hope he sticks around long enough to be the latest generations Mario!

@@schnek8927 I’m saying that he did a great job. While some people could easily tell, many people still couldn’t. I think that there is a saying that goes… you know you’ve made a great voice when other people imitate it greatly and you can’t tell the difference. It was meant as a compliment.

I didn't know they changed voices in the original, in the LATAM dub they're the same throughout every season, Gumball sounds the same but Darwin's voice gets deeper and it cracks a lot, it's really funny

@r40s In the first seasons of TAWOG in the LatAm dub, Anais and Darwin sounded different but in the next seasons the voices changed as the actors grew up

@@r40s Yeah; in the English original, the voice actors of the main characters, Gumball and Darwin, would frequently outgrow the roles and new ones would be brought on to replace them. Sometimes, these changes would happen in the middle of an episode; for example, it's why the brothers look so horrified at the end of "The Copycats."

Charles is the OG. There’s no replacing him. He’s touched the hearts of every Mario fan, even the very new ones. Kevin, despite the massive shoes he’s filling, did incredible in Wonder. Can’t wait to see him develop his Mario voice in future games. Chris, despite being a strange choice for the Mario role in the movie, did a lot better then I expected. His impressive voice acting for Mario was a surprise, but a very pleasant one, and I think he contributed to my enjoyment of the movie quite a bit.

I’m so dang proud of Kevin. Started his venture with fan projects and now voices one of the most recognizable characters in the entire planet. I will forever miss Charles and he is the heart of Mario’s charm, but the new gen will be fantastic too. And I know we meme hard over Chris, but he made Mario surprisingly down to earth and I’d rather have him over The gruff, middle aged guy he was portrayed as in TV show and 90’s movie.

Kevin's a champ. He sounds like a younger, more upbeat version of Mario, and I *really* hope they keep leaning into that. Though of course... Charles Martinet, You are an awesome legend of a man, and I really, really hope to meet you at a convention some day. Mario Sunshine was a huge part of my childhood, and got me through one of the hardest summers of my childhood life with a bittersweet smile on my face. Without the cautious *ooouooh* when at a ledge or on a rope, the upbeat *waheey* jumps, and good ol wahoo's, I don't think the game would've felt as alive as it did. He'll probably never read this... but yaknow. I wanted to say it *somewhere*

Imma be real, Kevin’s version of Mario gives off a certain energy that’s just… Wonderful. No pun intended. at first I genuinely didn't notice that Mario's voice actor had changed in Wonder. After the annoucement about Charles' retirement, I analysed it a bit more and started to hear the nuances. but hey, if the had a Mario-obsessed loon like me fooled, I think it's safe to say that Kevin Afghani is doing a *wonderful* job as the new Mario! good luck to him in the future!
