So long as we are watching history, history is not over.
Three minutes of footage, shot by David Kurtz in 1938, are the only moving images remaining of the Jewish inhabitants of Nasielsk, Poland before the Holocaust.
Three Minutes: A Lengthening explores the human stories hidden within the celluloid.

I didn’t have Polish relatives, but any of these faces look like they could be family. My father was at the death camps. Whenever I see those films I look for him. The freedom of information act allowed us to see his military record. It was unbelievable because he never wanted to discuss the war. This film, all three minutes of it is a jewel of proof. The way it was lengthened is a masterful piece of art. No plaque, no memorial, it’s time. May their memories be a blessing.

Beautiful. I have seen this clip and read the book Three minutes in Poland. Very moving and quite incredible. So special that this has been colorized. These people spring to life before your eyes. What a beautiful tribute to a destroyed world.

It has NOT been colorized or altered in any way. The film was shot in color by Mr. Kurtz. Color film was new and expensive in 1938, so he shot most of the vacation in B/W, but switched to color the day they visited Nasielsk. The camera Mr. Kurtz used allowed two reels of film to be loaded and a switch allowed the user to go back and forth. The color portions are authentic original color. The Book, "Three Minutes in Poland: Discovering a Lost World in a 1938 Family Film", is magnificent. Glenn Kurtz spends years seeking out and speaking with holocaust survivors. It was so hard to put down that I took a day off work to finish it. Looking at photos of people in 1938 who had no idea what was coming. 18 months later they were murdered in the forest. We never know when we see someone if that will be the last time, so never part without expressing love.

Will this video have professional captioning (NOT KZfaq's auto-generated captioning)? Will there be a version with audio-description, for blind and vision impaired persons?

The danger was present for so many decades, that it became part of the landscape of a normal life, and easy to miss when Hitler took it to the next level. Many did escape of course, but that took money.
