I love the paradox that these videos are both extremely relaxing (music & handiwork) yet overall exciting as the city climbs higher and higher. Happy to be along for the ride!

I have to confess that I have listened to this video series more than watched it. I put it on while I am painting miniatures, because it is very relaxing. But every once in a while I look up and I am blown away by your work! I would be disappointed that I have reached the end of the playlist (for now), but I haven't really watched them so, I'll start over and keep painting.

I am amazed by your ability to work in such tight spaces! Also, I appreciate your design choice to crop the building at the bases edges, it would be so easy to just have them be square to the edges but far less interesting. thank you for sharing.

Thanks! It's a bit of a fiddly challenge at times! Yes - cropping the buildings works well, I feel, for creating the impression that the city continues on. They might be a bit of a challenge if I ever decide to expand Undercrag City - but I'll deal with it somehow!

I was just painting some 3d printed trees. To paint the mossy sections of the trees I was inspired by your usage of inks, something I have not really used a lot. I dug a bottle of green ink I have had for decades and like the results. Thanks for the tip! What brand inks are you using?

I am fully up to date with your build now and as a scratch build modeler and figure painter myself I tip my hat in greatest respect to your skill and passion for your craft and look forward to the next stage eagerly. Do you ever find yourself wondering about the people that live in the city, their names, personalities, occupations and most of all their stories? And did you ever consider miniature figures to populate the city? Personally I don't think they are needed as the detail of your work is enough to allow imagination to bring them to life.

Thank you so much! Comments like this mean a lot to me. Yes - I think a lot about the people of Undercrag - their culture and beliefs; whether there is a caste system dictating who gets to live in the outside world and who lives in the caves; who is in charge and where they live; what races live there as well as humans, and how it all came to be. I haven't seen any ranges of miniature civilians that do justice to my impressions of these people, and I agree with you - I don't think they are necessary. But perhaps if I ever publish anything on paper, they may come to life a little more. Thanks for following! More very soon!

I love coming back every week to watch the progress of Undercrag. At the start of this weeks episode, you mentioned going up from here; does this mean you are building up the mountain? Will you be adding trees/ forests in the next installation?
@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues

Thanks! It's great to hear that people are following this series. Yes - I will be building upwards and outwards, so that the city expands into a kind of roof, hanging out over its own streets far below. I'm not sure about adding trees. The thought has occured a few times, but I'll just wait and see. If a section of the city might benefit from a bit of vegetation, I'll put them in.

Two questions if you don't mind. First are you actually a Colonel? Second how did you come up with undercrag city? What inspired you to make this amazing build?
@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues
@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues Ай бұрын
Hi Mike. Great questions! No - I am not an actual Colonel, and have never served in the military! I have always loved fantasy art, and I can think of many artists who really inspired me over the years. Their fantastic landscapes in particular always sparked my imagination - the stranger the better! But it struck me that when it came to fantasy miniatures for tabletop wargaming (including my own previous attempts) most usually leaned towards the more realistic 'history-inspired' side of things, or at the very least implied that their architects were not completely bonkers! I wanted to do something more magical than that. This is fantasy, after all. Why not get a bit ridiculous? I knew I wanted to make a roughly medieval walled city of sorts for miniature siege warfare games, but I didn't just want a few scattered buildings, a bit of wall and a few towers, arranged on a flat board. I also really wanted an aqueduct, so some sort of hill or cliff-face was needed. The idea for the general shape of Undercrag City (which will evolve over time - keep watching!) came to me when I was doodling in a notebook, bored at work. It stuck in my head and wouldn't leave me alone, so I decided to go for it. From that point, I just got a bit carried away - and I still haven't got to the really fun parts! Does that answer your question? I hope you'll stick around and watch the rest of this build - even I don't know what's going to happen!
@MikeLewisGaming
@MikeLewisGaming Ай бұрын
@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues that does answer my questions. As someone that loves creating I always find it so interesting to see what inspires others. Love the little city, I'll have to watch your backlog to get caught up! I do wonder about the LEDs inside the buildings though, are you going to be able to access them later? Or are they forever entombed?
@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues
@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues Ай бұрын
Thanks! Great to have you along for the ride. The LEDs are absolutely entombed forever! They are wired to a series of batteries and switches, So I only turn them on from time to time. Asw such, they should last years - but if they die, so be it. They're nice to have but the city itself is its own reward!

@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues Ah well, such is the fate of an organically built city. I'm sure with some effort you could maybe carve out the bottom of the diorama and fish them out again, since the structure may be sound enough after building it up after so long. Might be more trouble then its worth though.
