Today on offensive breakdown, I break down NFL schemes that get covered by the likes of QB School and Brett Kollmann. That’s right, the spread offensive breakdown is seen in NFL offenses and are covered by the QB School and Brett Kollmann
Not NFL Offense, But brett kollmann breaks down NFL game film and offensives. This QB School like offensive breakdown goes deep into the NFL spread concepts and how high school football can use NFL style plays covered by brett kollmann and QB School

Hey Coaches, what are some different ways are y'all using the Counter Trey running scheme?

Coach McKie Have you thought about or experimented with something like the following: 1: F motions away from the playside 2: QB and F fake a handoff away from the playside 3: TB initially steps away from the playside and then cuts back to the playside to receive the handoff 4: QB hands off to TB and TB follows the tackle Not trying to knock your first variation, I like it, I'm just thinking perhaps your variation would be a bit better if you presented the defense with a fake in one direction and then have the actual run go in the opposite direction rather than having the actual run go in the same direction as the fake. Also, I was thinking you could have a constraint play for this (A constraint play for a constraint play? Lol) where the QB keeps instead of handing to the TB, and the F acts as his lead blocker on the perimeter, or even crazier, you could have the F run a bubble route to act as an option throw, or get into pitch relationship with the QB after carrying out their fake, and act as a pitch option.

Thank you Coach McKie ! I am a New Zealander and never understood the counter trey concept until now. I can really impress Americans who live down here with this knowledge !

on the two back set, set the F behind the QB to give a Pistol I look and give a zone read lead look where the QB will read and give to the F on the counter trey and QB would follow the TB on the sweep look of the play. On the RPO concept, I would also run Go Even and Go Even Bench (slots run straight to the heels of where X and Z were originally lined up) and the ever deadly Hitch Seams.

Coach, that last clip the receivers are running stick routes not outs. Not great route. We usually do better😉

I would run with a TE on the side with the pulling linemen, that would keep my running back from blocking wrong and the TE could still go for a pass using the bootleg concept or release the Rb to the flat for pitch and catch. Also North Dakota state ran a play similar to this were the TE ran a decoy route and the RB ran up the sideline, in that case the play moves with the sweep not against it

Coach Queen, I know Coach Bill Mountjoy runs out Counter Trey with a tight end now. I've never seen it ran that way before. I'd love to see some film of it because it sounds like an amazing concept.

its just the old school pro formation, with split backs adjusted so that one is behind the QB and the other is behind the T, traditionally the QB was under center with split backs. Just look at some tape of bill walsh 9ers and the BYU cougars which hal mumme used as his pattern of the original "spread" offense before rich Rodriguez came along and made the spread a running thing. with your formation, it would mean moving the f to the te and the y to the te side of the backfield but behind the t. the outside wr would still require the defense to defend pre snap the same as in the 2 by 2. but may perhaps provide the advantage of the offense waiting to call a play after they have lined up. because of the double offset with the te and the fb the defense still has to shift pre snap to the strong side. Just as hal mumme pointed out these players coming out of the backfield and the te must be able to run a 48 40 or else these formations won't work.

Coach McKie the advantage is this would scheme offensively as a one back set and executed just the same but I don't think any d-coordinate would dream up defending it that way.

Coach Ransom, You are right coach. I think you will see a lot more Counter Trey now that Oklahoma has made a killing on it this season.

Counter is probably my favorite running play. Misdirection and power in the same play. Do u tag your H back to lead through instead of the tackle.

Coach McKie I really like to run QB Power/Counter with a HB swing screen to the twins side.

Hey coach, this is great! I was wondering what this scheme is a counter to for you all. Are you a base inside zone team? And is this a scheme you would stay away from if you don't want to run the QB?

My main experience is I back veer and we run tailback counter and a Z counter that we really like, but we have someone picking up the unblocked end instead of reading him. Thanks for sharing!

Coach Phillips, This is a counter to our inside zone. Last year we only ran these two schemes and ran for over 1500 yards.

I like it. Did you run that Bash scheme often? That one in particular would fit well with our offense. Nasty! Again thanks for sharing.
