Shut the door, it's Episode 4... already! Is it just us or is this series flying by?!
It’s no secret that kitchen week is always a fave and this transformation is one not to miss! The layout of the previous kitchen meant that Sarah and Cath were forever tangoing around each other to prepare dinner each evening, while the laundry boasted prime position, opening onto the outdoor entertaining space, with a view of the bar. That had to change!
So, the Bonnie and Ronnie dream team combined creative juices to put the laundry back in its box and made some sweet kitchen magic to give this room the love it deserves, in heart of the home.
BUT WAIT... as if an 8-week reno wasn't hectic enough... Lana goes and drops a bombshell!
We know y’all go crazy for kitchen week so make some noise… the big reveal is coming in HOT!

I have been a fan of three birds renovations for years. This is the first house I didn't like. It seems like every episode of this house they try to "think outside of the box" on the expense of practicality

This is not a very liveable house. Its very pinterest pretty, but I feel like most people (this particular couple for example) wouldn't be the type to go for looks over practicality. Most people don't ahaha The bathroom in the masterbedroom doesnt have a door, the benches in the kitchen seem so uncomfortable and the kids cant use those tiny tables to do homework while the moms cook or even EAT there. Doesnt really seem to suit a family life. The house IS pretty, but the design doesnt take details of a everyday family life into consideration, its nothing but a showhouse and not a home. I can see the family caving into the necessities eventually and adapting some stuff through out the house.

or the bench for the dining table - looks amazing but how long do you want to sit there with nothing to lean on? your back is going to hurt at some point .. same with the chair in the living room, it looks gorgeous but doesn't seem very inviting to sit in

Totally agree. This kitchen is just so uncomfortable to use. Would have been much better to get a bigger island that could sit people, with the sink, and get ride of the L shape part of the kitchen under the window, and use part of that space + the ridiculous long mirror space for a breakfast nook or coffee/wine bar.

Maybe if you put a seat, there is a wall with window behind and just unused space. I think it's better to put a seat at the island if behind it is just open area.

Particularly with kids, eating breakfast, after school snacks. Less workable for a family with those tiny tables. It looks clever how they have done it but not practical.

@@leerobertson1384 I'd like to disagree with you. given your point about the island counters but the dining table is not that far away form the kitchen. I think they'll just be fine without seating at the island counter.

Great elements. Love the colour and the windows. The kitchen cupboards should have a bulkhead at least and the island, while beautiful, would be better off with seating. As for the "airport lounge" it's super cute but not at all practical for a family. And why not just stick another pantry cupboard where the mirror is now?

Actually it was a design decision. We wanted the top of the cabinetry to align perfectly with the top of the rangehood. We wanted that instead of a bulkhead which would have made that wall feel less connected to the rest of the kitchen. X

I understand people have differing tastes on these things but to me it would have added height to the room if all the cabinets and range top would have stretched up to the ceiling. Very pretty and instagrammable though.

Love the kitchen and the timber color. However, they chose beauty over functionality with the island. there is definitely enough space for island seating. it would have been much more useful for a family to have island seating

Yup. I love watching the episodes because it looks beautiful but every time I remember the family I’m like, damn, I hate that I think “I hope they like it 🙂” and not “they will for sure love this 😝” This was a bust I think.

Color wise I liked it. I don’t mind the beige and I loved the stone that the used as the backsplash. But that bench thing with the table’s was unnecessary and didn’t at any value to the kitchen.

Especially with those 2 riny tables will actually hinder comfortable sitting situation. I think they should have maybe added a ledge infront of the sliding windows for the drink stand. Other then that i loved the design feature..

I Love all the the Birds' designs/renos ... except this one. It looks sick with no color. All it has is foundation ... no eyeshadow, no lipstick, just a little bit of blush with the woods. I cannot believe that you can't sit at the island. And that seating area ... nope, just nope. This reno was DEFINITELY thinking outside the box. In fact, you completely got rid of the box, there is absolutely NO box in this house. But I'm always waiting in anticipation for your videos. I could watch you ladies from the moment I wake up, until I go to bed. I hope you 3 always stay together and never stop designing. Now I need to binge watch all of your previous renos till next week. 32 of the views of each video is me!!

I think in your opinion you don’t like it but you shouldn’t say horrible things about someone’s hard work and time and instead use constructive criticism otherwise you are just going to upset someone.

I usually love their stuff. But I feel this missed the mark slightly. Its like little house on the prairie. Wrong style for that couple. Literally like the inside of a wooden dolls house.

Genuinely wondering whether they've put a filter on the edit for this series? Surely the whole house cant be *that* warm toned.... I'm hoping it looks different IRL but I think Bonnie was right to be really questioning the paint choice, I feel like they're in a 70's tv set! furniture pieces etc are absolutely stunning regardless, and im sure this is the couple's colour palette, but it would set my anxiety off living here!

I had a minor panic attack (just an exaggeration) when in the 2nd episode they painted the whole house this single pinkish-beige colour. I'm pretty sure they would have had a conversation with the couple about colour pallette.

Im so over these colors all over the internet, its going to be outdated in about 30 minutes. thankfully the furniture is nice and it can all be fixed with a new coat of paint.

I normally see islands with seating when it's open to the rest of the house behind it, but in a closed in kitchen, utilizing that extra space they had for seating i think was a rly good idea

No seating at the island and that damn scalloped edge. It should have been one curved top that extended enough to allow seating at the island. The scalloped edge will be out of style in two years.

I would really love a cost breakdown part at the end of your videos. It would definitely help people budget their renos better and know what they can and can't afford. I find people barely have an accurate idea of what the tradies will cost let alone the materials.

Over here in Germany putting your laundry in your kitchen is pretty common for apartments. And if the family wants to they can easily add a few barstools to the island

"The kitchen is really the heart of your home, it's usually a hub, a place where people congregate, cooking, eating, talking, socialising"...and doing a load of washing apparently 🙊😂 I think a house should have it's own laundry room no matter the size. I don't think a euro laundry is very practical for a family. Unless the owners don't do their own washing?! I think not having a separate laundry space would put people off buying this home in the future, even though it is beautiful

All these comments about washing machines in the kitchen are so dramatic. In the UK I reckon about 75% of houses have their washers in the kitchen, even big families, and somehow it just works. A laundry room is great if you have the space, but again it's really not a big deal. Just because you're not used to something, doesn't mean it's wrong. (For context, I grew up in a family of 6, we did plenty of washing lol)

@@danieljrust I'm not saying it's wrong at all. My personal preference would be to have a separate laundry as that's what I've grown up with and I love the space. If I lived in an apartment I don't think I'd have a choice so I'd learn to live with it. I guess fulfilling the owners wish of more kitchen space came at a compromise. Hopefully they are ok with it and if it's what the ladies prefer I'm happy for them. I think it would be an amazing opportunity and experience to have a complete house reno done by The Three Birds!!

So true! We had the washing maschine in our kitchen before... it was awefull... In small apartments you can't avoid it, but in this house it would have been easy to do so... especially in an open concept living, it is awefull to have it in the kitchen... Like when someone is randomly coming over, and than there standing the laundry baskets with dirty clothes around... great... In my area it is comman to have the laundry inside a bathroom, also not the best place, but for sure better than inside the open concept kitchen...

@@danieljrust but in Australia most homes have a separate laundry. I think the issue is more that they HAD a separate laundry and now it's gone. Surely they could have squeezed a small laundry in somewhere else.

@@AshlyCT theres not much of an overlap from the benchtop. Usually islands allow you to tuck your legs under it but it will now be awkward to sit at. Though thinking about it, that curvature of the bench probably wouldn't look right with an over hang. And yes, chairs can be added

In the background of the check in with the owners, the background is mainly dark, I wonder if the owners don’t like beige. Like the house is open and stunning but I love dark colors and the owners seem like they are dark colors fans too.

But they loved the look of the bird's instagram, so they knew they were getting light colors... They might be surprised it's not white though, since that is usually the "color" Bonnie goes for.

I totally get what Lana means with the fridge doors. We went through the exact same thing and were adamant that it all had to work and look perfect. It's not something the average person even considers but it's a big deal, especially when you're designing your own kitchen and having someone build your dream. Oooh this is the first time y’all have done something that I truly don’t agree with. This family needed some kind of table top with the seating in the kitchen. It wouldn’t have been hard to add even a slim bar table with that bench. Switching out that floor mirror with a smaller one that hangs on the wall. And I wouldn’t be ecstatic going from having a laundry room to laundry in my kitchen. But it was beautifully done and I might be able to adapt lol.

I love this kitchen, so feminine, I would totally love to have something like this. I don't mind that you can't sit to the island, so beautiful, so practical to put a tons of food there, christmas, thanksgiving, parties...I would put a bigger table next to the bench, but that's an easy fix. I don't get the comments, which are saying that this home is too feminine for the owners- come on, EVERY TBR home has the same vibe, they KNEW what the're gonna get, so they must love their work :D

I am loving this house! I feel like a lot of people are making assumptions about the clients based on their looks. These ladies are professionals and I am sure they spent a lot of time discussing and pitching ideas to their clients. I dont think they would create something they didnt genuinely believe their clients would like. Love it so far birds!

Maybe it’s cultural differences but what’s wrong with a laundry in the kitchen lol in Germany it’s pretty common for apartments and houses without a basement to have the laundry either in the kitchen or the bathroom. Also, who tf does their homework in the kitchen? 🤧😂

Most houses and even units in Australia have a separate laundry room. Where else would you store a washer, dryer, iron, ironing board, vacuum, mops, brooms, cleaning products? Most also have a sink where you can rinse and soak clothes, bathe small pets etc. Euro laundries are common here in small apartments where there isn't enough space for a laundry room but for a house I think it's a very strange choice

For us in the Middle East the laundry appliances are in the bathroom.

Kids do homework in the kitchen where their parents can supervise and help while preparing dinner - that’s why breakfast bars are so useful in a family home.

Cuz it’s dirty. Who wants pubes on the floor of your kitchen from laundry 🤢
