The bumpy texture was old shellac or varnish. I refinished an old oak table with the exact same look. It had been stored in an attic for years. I assumed the texture was from the extreme heat. I had to use stripper and then sanding of course. It is now a beautiful stained piece as my sewing table.

Oh my gosh….My Grandma had those fisher price little people in your eBay store that we played with growing up, I think she had a little barn or school or something that went along with it. I’ll never forget my favorite thing of hers was a little cow we milked, I remember putting some sort of dissolvable tablet in it before milking it….oh the good old days ❤❤❤

The shutter is my favorite. A rooster and chicken wire and wording. Yep, got it all.

My mother gave me a furniture piece that had those bubbles in the finish. It had been in a very damp space for years. That’s what caused the finish to bubble. It looked exactly like your mirror. Looked great when you finished.

If a piece of furniture sits in direct sunlight for an extended period of time, the finish will sun check and bubble like that.

Your mirror was changing color as you used alcohol because alcohol removes shellac. Those bumps are damaged shellac. If you would have continued to use the alcohol it would have removed all the shellac without sanding. If you wanted the color back you only need to put new shellac over it.

We had old furniture & that is old varnish on the mirror. Love the oak wood the mirror was made of.

I like shutters and that my favourite saying when I think of roosters. I have a picture of a rooster crowing and it says rise and shine.

The antique varnish was what bubbled on the mirror (which I think is made of oak). Love your channel!❤

That bumps are a special kind of shellac and it's apain to sand because it clocs up the sandpaper ! I once had a kitchen cupboard with that kind of colour it was so much work to get it clean .

That was a very large tongue depressor you just Antiqued :) It really looks good. I like the Q that way.. My gosh that was one chunky mirror. Really nice wood. My gosh I couldn't believe that came from smoking. I'm thankful I quit 25 years ago. Chick you have a good week and God Bless, Hugs Rebekah

that bubbling is called alligatoring and it is caused from getting hot and cold for many years in an attic or somewhere like that .not tobacco. it is the varnish . i like it i would never remove it.

Oh your so clever with your make overs. You must have a million of ideas in your n brain. That last pierce you did (the board) looked just like a old time ironing board. The reason I mention this is I have one just like it. Mine has short boards on the bottom as for legs n the top was nailed onto the legs with square nails. I was told back in the day they used it as a bench but when time to iron they would place the board on 2 ladder back chairs n proceed to iron. Of course mine wasn’t painted white. I painted it n aged it years ago. It’s a real special antique to me. I’ve had it for over 30ty yrs. My favorite of all was the Oak mirror. It turned out awesome. As for me I’d keep it. It’s a oldy but a goody. That build up on it was shellac. If you kept at it with the alcohol you would of gotten it off. Yes, it does get sticky. It’s always a pleasure to my soul to watch your videos. I’m one of your biggest fans. ♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟

The bumpy is just the old stain, it pulls away over time but doesn't fall off, lol, I've seen it many times, I use steel wool and a little water. The frame is beautiful oak, it deserves to be refinished. I t would look great with your decor. That piece is my exact buffet top, same date on the mirror, too. Just think, in a hundred years that stain you put on will be bumpy stuff on the piece for another generation to refinish.

Loved everything but the framed burlap piece. I would have tightened up the burlap around the frame and stapled it. I hate loose wrinkled things in a display case. Why not check out what I did with 12 inch mirrors in the bathroom, and tell me what you think?

Love your projects. Have a question about the finishing wax, is it sticky, does it attract dust. I want to give a dry sink of my grandmothers a refresh. Wondering if it’s sticky, never finished with wax.
