Hi Audrey! I really enjoyed watching this video! Gone Girl is one of my favourite books too and you’re right in saying that it is a pioneer of that format and style of writing. I read a few thrillers which would be marketed as the next Gone Girl but would have none of the appeal. It’s also not the best way to market because you almost expect the twist and wait for it. Definitely looking to picking up some of the other thrillers you mentioned in this video!
@ChapterandConverse5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree about the Gone Girl marketing for newer books. I almost find it to be a turnoff or at least gives me pause. I get that once a book hits everyone wants to write "the next (insert title)". I've read Gone Girl multiple times and for me it totally stands up! Thanks for watching! Glad you found some books to check out!

Hey Audrey - if you have not read Look Closer by David Ellis give it a try. It was absolutely wild and twisty and a fun time reading. It was 5 stars for me!

Thrillers! You're speaking my language. Read Gone Girl,Missing Girls, and In a Dark Dark Wood. Will have to check out the Magpie Murders for sure. I did a video called Gimme 5 or more thrillers I won't forget in a week. I actually saw a few books on my TBR on your back shelf! Glad I subscribed to someone who likes thrillers like me!

I read Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware for Thrilllerathon. I enjoyed it better that In a dark dark wood. I thought both books were really good but I think I loved the setting on the ship and all the supporting characters more. I definitely going to read more Ruth Ware
@ChapterandConverse5 жыл бұрын
I also loved the ship setting, characters, etc. in Woman in Cabin 10 - felt very Agatha Christie-ish. But I didn't really like the ending....sigh!

I've read The Word if Murder by him and really enjoyed it - the Magpie is on my list to get to - yes, they are big books! Have you read CLOSE TO HOME by Cara Hunter? That's a really good thriller- the twist at the very end was amazing.
@ChapterandConverse5 жыл бұрын
I have The Word is Murder on my shelf so happy to hear a good review! I haven't heard of Cara Hunter - writing it down so I can check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!

@@ChapterandConverse Cara Hunter has 3 thrillers out - I've only read that first one - quite a twist at the very end and those are so fun!!

Hi Audrey, are you planning to attend BookExpo in late May? I'll be going for the first time and thought getting a cup of coffee and wandering around with you would be fun.

I don't have any plans to attend....I've never been. Will definitely let you know if that changes.

I must be the only person on the planet who did not like Gone Girl. I find that in order for me to enjoy a thriller I have to trust a character, the narrator or the author. You love the dark and twisted genre more than I do but I still love your channel. We do occasionally agree on a book!!
@ChapterandConverse2 жыл бұрын
I do love a dark read...haha! And I actually just reread Gone Girl to "commemorate" the 10 year anniversary. I listened to the audiobook this time and I have to say I still think it's absolutely brilliant! So happy we do agree on some books - thanks for watching 💕

Just now watching this video. I didn’t enjoy Gone Girl although I admit it is a good plot and well written. The ending just did me in. Plus I couldn’t root for anybody. The Expats sounds good. I hope the main character is likable. The Firm oh yes. I really enjoyed The Pelican Brief by Grisham. Love Anthony Horowitz. Great job!!

Thrillers are my favourite book genre especially psychological ones.Great video and please do more of these videos and please make it long because I could listen all day about these type of books.I saw that you have Sometimes I lie on your shelf.That was really twisted and great psycho thriller. :)

Thank you! I definitely have a lot more to say about thrillers - love them. I just finished "Her Every Fear" by Peter Swanson and thought it was great. It's my second read by him and I'm a fan. I read "Sometimes I Lie" last year - I enjoyed it. Curious to read her new book!

@@ChapterandConverse I discovered your channel yesterday.I can't wait for your next video about scary and thriller books.I read Her every fear and it was ok if a little repetitive.Did you read The kind worth killing by the same author.I gave it three stars because it was a little unbeleiveable but fun and so twisty book.

Hi Audrey! Thank you for all these recommendations! I Loved Gone, Girl (the book & the movie - So fun to love and hate them - LoL) - I am "Sold" on Magpie Murders now on the TBR --- Have added a few Chris Pavone titles to my TBR - Seriously interested in All The Missing Girls (Disclaimer: Slightly obsessed w missing children, missing women etc) - The Firm (Loved the book & the movie!) - Have you read Scott Turow's Presumed Innocent? (Great book and movie!) Just a feeling - But I think you would love it! Another fave of mine!
@ChapterandConverse5 жыл бұрын
How did I miss this one? I read Presumed Innocent ages ago and loved it. I've seen the movie a bunch of times. I mean Harrison Ford ❤️ (and totally clever story too!). I feel like this would be a good re-read.

@@ChapterandConverse - So Sorry re the duplicate of Presumed Innocent - Here is one more: I loved this one - Different - Unique - The Necklace by Cheryl Jarvis - (Non-Fiction) Thirteen women pitch in to buy a diamond necklace to be shared - Each one has her own unique experience with the necklace. Travelling Pants Meets Modern Day vibes only better!
@ChapterandConverse5 жыл бұрын
Sounds interesting. And let's be honest...I love me some jewelry 😂

@@ChapterandConverse - I have been trying to "Up" my Non-Fiction reads and I have been finding some great ones - If Interested! I read The Necklace on vacation and remember really enjoying it. To be honest, the necklace on the cover did catch my attention - A Girl and Diamonds, Right? The bottom line is more of a "Social Experiment", of sorts. It was a stretch for me, but worked out in the end!

I really loved Magpie Murders, it was such a clever book. I absolutely loved Gone Girl at the time but I thought that the film was really boring. I hated it that much that it has changed my feelings on the book. I have never read a John Grisham. I just have this fear that his books will be really heavy going.
@ChapterandConverse4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if Grisham is a sentimental read for me since I read them when they came out but really am a fan of his early work. I haven't read anything in a LONG time. I've reread Gone Girl so many times and while I'll admit I am for sure a Ben Affleck fan, the book totally trumps the movie for me. WAY better than the "Girl on the Train" movie (awful) but I will always default to the book of "Gone Girl".

Haha! You are not alone in that. I didn't like end of The Woman in Cabin 10, but I think I'm in the minority in liking all her other books. I *just* got The Turn of the Key and cannot wait to read it - hearing so many great things!
